Imagine the reactions if this was on the main board haha. Good point well made, today's game is an excellent example of this kind of favoritism. As well as the love for Hird that has gone through the roof. Their fans seem delusional most of the time, if this were the Eagles I wouldn't know what to think of us.
There is a thread similar to it in the mainboard asada sub forum from a few days ago

Those who matter have already found them not guilty. It's now an irrelevancy. The AFL is run with less rigor than an amateur competition. Certain clubs are Teflon coated.

I read something that mentioned the players sanctions can be downgraded to 6 months which can be served entirely outside of the season. The players involved will not be able to train with the main squad but will still be apart of the team in every other regard.

The media is giving Essendon a free ride because Hird is pretty much mates with most of the commentators!

I couldn't imagine what would happen if our club had of been found using those substances... :(

IMO the whole Essendon mess is being nicely whitewashed and swept neatly under the carpet. Stinks more than a dung sump!

The AFL can't afford to punish Essendon adequately, to do so mid-year would compromise the season, to do so next year would reduce the money to be made from blockbusters and affect their TV rights deal. Given how pious the AFL has been about drug use, it is patently hypocritical for them to effectively do nothing, but that is what they are trying to do. A whitewash that will see a few doctors no one has heard of suspended for life, players not missing a game, maybe a fine, and that's it.

The only hope is that ASADA don't allow it and force a real punishment.

Given Australian sport's strong stance on drug use, a failure to punish our own when confronted with it would be an embarrassment.

I haven't really commented on this issue because much crap has been written and there is a lot of rumours flying around.

If found guilty of anything/wrongdoing/whatever you want to call it, I demand harsh penalties. You can't have performance enhancing issues swept under the carpet. The AFL need to take a stand before there is no integrity left in the game. The AFL will be riddled with drugs if this isn't acted upon (provided they are found guilty etc.)

Yeah, just posted in another thread, but I don't see how the AFL can just carry on like nothing is happening.

The double standards have been there all along. Injunction club was protected for the same actions Cousins was hung out to dry for. I am not a Cousins apologist, just would like to see equal treatment for all.

Well at least melbourne didnt tank.
This is far worse than double standards. Just ponder the punishment the Crows received and the relative level of 'crime' melbourne rigged, then look at the evidence already public in relation to doping.

So I'm taking it the OP is talking about media commentators et al. I still remember the crapfest that was the Robert Walls 'good v. evil' articles that was 2007. Yes, the Eagles messed up big time, but the AFL came down on us equally hard. I guess the difference is that we didn't have a Tim Watson or Lloyd in the media spotlight.

History will judge Essendon, until then its a laywers playground, unless your name is Caroline Wilson. That woman truly has an axe to grind

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou told reporters in Sydney, "I've said from day one that David Evans the chairman has been absolutely brilliant throughout this whole process.

"He's never shirked the responsibility. He's the chairman, he's uncovered things that he wasn't comfortable with, he contacted the AFL and sought immediate intervention and called for the ASADA ienquiry.

"From day one he's insisted that everyone at that football club cooperate. That's exactly what's happened."

I am appalled at his support of this man. The CEO of a club that allowed a drug environment such as the one revealed in the Switkowski report.

Nisbett NEVER received this level of support or praise from Demetriou but stopped short of blaming him for "allowing" the so-called drug culture to fester at the Eagles in the whole Ben Cousins saga
.
David Evans should be held to the same acccount. He allowed it as he himself has admitted.

It looks to me as though the report is going to clear any players of responsibility and blame a few low level administrators who likely will fall on their sword and the rest be swept under the carpet.

Disgusting. The AFL should apologize to the Eagles and Ben Cousins.

Exact same thing i was thinking. I think we should push for an apology publicly and show his bias bullshit to shame.

Actually, Evans is not the CEO, is he? Thought he was Chairman. The report said the CEO should be responsible for all activities at a club.

Yes, that's what it looks like. I read some of the report today and one point was that external contractors had used the EFC purchasing system to purchase the substances and you (well Ziggy) couldn't categorically determine that those substances were used for EFC players. Well, here we go, I thought, nothing like blaming an invisible, indefensible third party. Love their work though. ;)

Ok you may be right. I think he is chairman. Anyway where is the chairman then?
