Don't worry about the loss fellas, it's only the pre-season.

Sheedy will fix it by round 1.

I would have been a month old when Richmond won their last premiership. I turn 26 this year.

Just thought I'd point that out.

Mcveigh very impressive, we need blokes in the middle who not only go hard but know how to deliver the ball which Mark can do

Hopefully he can put it together consistently.

Lacks penetration? He kicked a 65m goal.
Penetration and depth in his kicking aren't the problem. Infact his kicking alone isn't the problem. His decision making is. He generally makes foot skils when he runs to far with the ball. He's improved that a lot, but still has a way to go.

He missed two set shots last nite, but last season he was pretty good, especially in the second have of the year. I'll give him the benifit of the doubt there.

Aaron, the umpiring was good.

I worded it poorly, I still thinks he loops is too much for my liking when trying to hit a lead, but his decision making and kicking will only get better, a future superstar, already a star

BOG - David Hille.

Well done buddy you controlled the midfield from the first bounce. Should be a great player for us in 06'.:thumbsu:

I'm not too disappointed about the game, there were a lot of good signs & yes it was the silly turnovers that cost us. If they can manage to work on good disposals, then I think we will have a better season than last year.

I'm glad Kepps has bulked up, was worried everytime he went near the ball last year. OH one more thing, get rid of ****ing "Dolton.

Mantis my concern is we had the silly turnovers last year . They where evident in both the intra club games and again last night :(

i'am a bit worried with the performance. with the players they had out compared to who we had out we still should have won easily. by about 4 goals. its the delivery to the forwards and the forward structure that hurts. if you said the lions would kick 69 before the game i would have been happy cause the polayers we had out there should have been able to kick 12 goals.

watson looks great. he will be a big player for us in 2-3 years. mcveigh in the middle was one of our best. i still think peverill should have been delisted. bradley will be the best of all our young players. hille was great in the ruck when in there but struggled up forward. lovett-murry looked liked he killed too many brain cells over the summer.

and i never thought i would see a worse player than ben doolan or aaron hackman but i think bolton has officially become the worst essendon player..................................................................................EVER!

Last nights performance was INSIPID. Afew points I would make are: John Quinn's position has to be looked at. We again looked physically spent by 3/4 time. It was hot but it was a hot summer here for heavens sake. Secondly I have serious questions about the coaching last night. Our youngsters barely got a crack compared to Brisbanes youngsters who helped win them the game. Sheedy was so keen to win that I think he has lost the bigger picture thinking. Ben Jolley was given 5 minutes of play. Doesnt sheedy already know the capabilities of pev, bolts etc? Out third tier players worry me immensely- Winderlich, reynolds, dyson, watson didnt do enough against kids with LESS experience. Leadership is also going to be a BIG question. Voss showed everything about leadership last night while lloyd was disappointing. Iknow he relies partially on delivery but I expected a little more from his as captain in his own right for the first time. I though Campo was pretty good but he is honestly an upgraded model of Murphy an not an elite player like Voss but we are paying him elite money. Last night was a cold dose of REALITY.

Could Richmond be the new Hawthorn? Madly obsessed with Essendon.

My points from watching last nights game:

-Jobe played ok in bursts, but IMO didn't show as much as I thought he would. In case you didn't notice amongst the 7 million times Dwayne Russel mentioned it, he dropped 7kg over the summer.
-Campo played well, give him time to settle in to the team and we could be on a winner there.
-Someone drive a car over Bolton. Now. This would improve our finals chances greatly.
-Pev didn't look any better than he did last year. If he plays like that all year, I can't see him being retained.
-Kepler has the smarts to get to the ball, or in position, and he can take a strong mark. His kicking let him down at times though.
-Lovett looks like he read to much of his own press. Every time he got the ball he just took off.
-Lloyd seems to be playing almost too unselfish. He's still the best FF in the comp, why play him up the ground?
-Heff played alright. He could become a good addition.
-Our lack of structure up forward surprised me. Lloyd playing up the ground wouldn't have helped, but even then we looked very disorganised. Need to work on that in practice matches.

That's all I can think of for now.

While it was dissapionting to loose, at least there were two positives. It's clear that Bolts and Pevrill should never play for Essendon again.

I think that Lloyd played up the ground to drag Mal out of the 50 (and hopefully his comfort zone), it left lucus one out with a first gamer in the square. The plan was for lucus to run riot I guess. However, the guy did a good job on lucus and whenever we went forward it was quite stagnant and Brisbane and Mal had time to flood back. And then we'd look for lloyd with 3 guys on him, while lucus still had a first gamer on him....

I thought lovette lacked match practice, he will get better - we know what he is capable of.

the encouraging thing for the match was that, I'd say the top 10 players were all guys that were quite young (other then say Fletcher and McVeigh). Which is good because we all know what lucus and lloyd are capable of.

While some of the rookies played very well for Brisbane in the midfield, having guys like Voss, Black and Power in there would have helped those guys a lot. Essendon's midfield would have been playing together for the first time in a competitive match. I know that that would have been the same with Brisbane and their rookies, but they did have a few regulars there still.

I think our midfield can do better with more game time together, our forward line needed another avenue to goal, rioli, hird and Johns will offer this. However one area I thought that we were down on was the backline. I have a feeling that lucus might have to play back a bit this season.

I hope that we can get another big bodied guy in our backline... I haven't seen much of lee, perhaps he could be an option? Or maybe Henno wil come good? We certainly need a KPP back. Especially coming up against a forward line like Brisbane is capable of presenting.

Winders I thought did well too. Some good confident runs down the ground. Same with NLM. Just wish the delivery into the forward line had been better or we had another dangerous marking option....

I couldnt help but think 'here we go again' after wathcing last nights game. Here I was thinking sheeds had made some great moves over the summer with delistings etc.
Its been said over and over, for years, but bolton is sh'it, he has to goany first year player on our list will do better than him, his decision making is abismal.
The midfield will remain our problem, campo started well and faded. Lloyd wont get near 100 goals without quality ball. Why cant we string together 4 qtrs of half decent footy??

He has to stop kicking on his back step. He did that twice last nite and turned it over both times. When he does that he gives the ball too much air.

Gee we must see the game differently:confused: I thought we lost the game becasue a few of the young guys where left on the ground for too long in the last quarter. Not saying it is a bad thing to leave them on, in fact it is good as far as getting experience goes but not having Hille in the ruck for most of the last quarter cost us. I agree that Dyson and Reynolds didnt do a lot but they didnt have a lot of playing time either. Winderlich and Watson did well. They where both on the ball when we re established our lead in the third quarter. Watson got 19 possession in 2 1/2 quarters so i dont know how much more you want from him at this stage

whilst hugely dissaponited in losing last night you have to think well it is only essendon's second game of the year, facts are it was humid, something that brsibane has been training in week in week out, and essendon were backing up from their first game against sydney, after 5 months its hard to regain match fitness straight away.
Im not overly impressed but we are a very young side and young blokes dont play consistently, i think that for 3 quarters we played very well through our backline and midfield, i think sheed should have placed paddy up forward and placed brisbanes backline under more pressure.
The major problem was our skills at some stages the guys played like millionaires with lookaway handballs, well better its happening earlier in the season and hopefully lloyds call for more a team effort will iron this problem out sooner rather then later.
Jobe Watson was promising as was Mcveigh although his kicking for goals needs to be addressed (his kicking to the man on the lead seems good), lovett looks to take to many guys on, bradleys kicking is awful, hille looked lazy at times, campo looked like a man preparing himself for the proper season and heff was ok. From what i saw of reynolds well yes he didnt get the ball alot but his tackling is something that i came to respect and appreciate, ferocious like the essendon of old, he will eventually get the ball. Im still not sold on winderlich. Some of these players need to learn how to handball, how hard is it to handball to someone.
Another problem was accountability and its always the oppositions unknown factors that get away from us, i remember brett johnson for carlton in 2004 getting away from us.
I think though our midfield is getting better but has a long way to go, i believe though our midfield will be dangerous in 2007-8.

Nothing wrong with seeing the game differently- it's the beauty of our game. I havent been to able to access how long Jolley, Dempsey and Ryder were left on but I wouldnt have thought it wasnt that long and certainly not as long as Pev, bolts and Hef. My point is that Brisbanes kids were given greater game time and I thought had a bigger impact. I am hard on Jobe. I credit him for getting his body right (if only rioli and Cole would do the same) but I think he is slow and cant see him being a damaging AFL midfielder. I hope I am wrong because he has worked hard and obviously deserves success.

It was a pre-season game after all, lets not get too wrapped up in all the wonderful conclusions we could draw. The loss was annoying though.

I saw much fitter versions of Winderlich and Watson who were able to involve themselves in the game more often and for longer, that made me happy. Watson though he missed a fair chunk of the game due to that ankle was close to the best stoppage player on the ground and touched it 20 times

McVeigh. Heartening.

Hille. Didn't have a great game but looks in absolute prime physical condition. He seemed a better ruck exponent as well.

Dempsey. Didn't do much at all, but he is a fair mover. Quick and very agile. Looked very much like his first intra-club though, just a bit too nervous to get it happening.

Not too fussed with Sheedy's moves, as I'm positive he was in pre-season mode.

Ahh Bolts... oh well.

Lovett. Find it hard to believe people are bagging him. Sure he got caught a few times and had a bad game - little bit of luck and he would have kicked 2 or 3 including the winning goal. Looks stronger and easily as quick as last year.

The boys did seem to tire a bit in the last quarter but that could be put down to travelling to Sydney the week before and then being on the Gold Coast for 4-5 days
Some good and bad signs though but it is only the preseason

Your team played to the very best of their abilities. They should be proud of coming so close to the Brisbane reserves team.

Didn't your team get beaten by Hawthorn???
