Captain Jobe Watson and Michael Hurley will face fitness tests before Friday night’s Call to Arms clash against Melbourne at the MCG.
Not feeling good about this one. Dont rate the Dee's at all but I dont rate us after the way we played against Richmond without key players who again wont be back this week.

Always seems to happen against us. Getting sick of teams pumping themselves up against us. I agree with Centurion, if we're a top 8 side we'll win, line in the sand or not.

It does seem to happen quite a bit, but it's worth remembering that the Saints were in the same boat (perhaps worse) when we played them.

It's worth remembering too that Hurley and Watson were clearly our two best players from that game, while Heath played an important role with his physicality in the stoppages. Oh and don't forget the 3 goals from Winderlich too.
Neither of those players will be out there. Completely different situation. Three ruckmen, dysfunctional forward line, undermanned midfield, Fletcher on one leg, opposition labelled soft throughout the week.
Would much rather play St Kilda to be honest.
The point is, whether Melbourne is pumped up or not, if we are not good enough to beat them, then we may as well forget about playing two games in the finals this year. Just send our wounded, and suffering to a far away place to recuperate and hope next year turns out better.

we have a lot of our starting 18 out, pears, hurley, watson, hocking, winderlich, dempsey and they will be getting trengove and scully back to re-affirm a confidence in their midfield over ours.
we'll have to play well because i cant see the dees playing as poorly as they did last week.
Oh wow! I just noticed their injury list. Even without Watson and Hurley, we should really be winning this by a fair margin. Granted if you offered me 25 points and no injuries, I'd take that right now, but I think Hirdy and co will look at the Demons injuries, expected changes and try to analyse the matchups without Watto and Hurls.

This will be close, thanks to bloody carlton they have had their courage and appetite for a hard contest questioned, watch them come out fired up. A good bet would be to see what line is offered for melbourne. We were very flat after trouncing the gold coast witches hats the next week v w.coast and now we`re coming off the bye. Ess by 10 points after a huge struggle.

Melbourne are absolute crap. We will ****ing destroy them. They lost to NORTH MELBOURNE and ****ing ST. KILDA. North are shit- they lost to Brisbane ffs, and we pantsed a fired-up Saints by 55 points. If we lose this week we don't deserve to be in the 8. Simple as that

We better turn up mentally and physically. This is a danger game as is every one we play.

We've lost one game out of nine this year in which we were expected to win and didn't. That was against Richmond. Hardly earth shattering stuff.
Some people are making out that Melbourne are going to come out and possess Geelong like qualities and have superstars on every line because they were criticised by an opposition club. That might stack up for 20 minutes, but not for four quarters.
They have lost four of their last five games for a reason - they aren't very good and that is underlined even further with six or seven first choice players missing. You can't turn good form on like a tap, even after a bit of media criticism.

I agree 20 minutes of intensity does not equal 4 quarters.

Better to learn a lesson now than the next time we play finals and face a similar situation.
Beware the wounded animal, and a talented animal at that. Remember, the last time the Dees got really smashed was against the Eagles at Subi, they suffered a public pasting, then came out and promptly annihilated the Crows by close to 2 figures.
We're undermanned in the midfield, coming off a bye, on a wet and greasy night with 3 ruckmen (causing a dysfunctional forward line) and without our most influential presence in the forward half of the ground (Hurley).
Personally, if the rucks put in a performance like they did against Richmond again, then don't be expecting good things from our midfield. Their inability to utterly dominate the 'hitouts to advantage' stat was bordering on a disgrace against an inexperienced ruckman. Young Max Gawn has a similar big body to Browne, though Bellchambers and Hille, in particular, need to take him to the cleaners, not just around the game, but in the ACTUAL RUCK CONTESTS.
With such a depleted midfield & poor rucking performance against Richmond, we still comfortably won the hitouts & smashed them in the clearances. When our ruckman went forward they were disappointing, but that hasn't been the case all year.
Our disposal efficiency on the night was the key reason we lost. Doubt lightning is going to strike twice, especially in consecutive games.

If you'd read the post thoroughly you'd realise that the rucks, while winning the hitouts, failed to capitalise on the situation by winning them to advantage. Hitouts as a generic term mean stuff all, it's the ones to advantage that give you first use of the ball and, if the structures are right, give you greater time and space to deliver the ball cleanly into the forward line instead of bombing it up high and leaving Paddy Ryder to wrestle with Full Backs.
It's not simply stating that 'our disposal efficiency was off so we lost the game', you need to look at why your efficiency is off and what you need to do to rectify these issues and whether you have the players to fix that issue.
Of course, it wasn't just the hitouts to adv that were an issue. When the ball was bombed into the forward line, it made it easier for their defenders to peel off their own men in order to outnumber the big target, in our case, Paddy. This brought the ball to ground which allowed the defenders who had peeled off their men, like Batchelor and Newman and in some cases Deledio, to run off half back, or switch it to the other flank where they would either penetrate through our zone through the middle (see ant555's comment of our structures breaking down through the corridor) or go long down the line and draw a throw in.
Not confident. The continued absence of Watson, Hocking and Hurley on top of Winder, Dempsey and Pears is massive, and underrated in the media.
