Probably, but he'd be getting onto thin ice, wouldn't he??
He will probably stay this week because of his last performance. He seems to perform well on rainy nights..so heres hoping for a rainy night.

If it rains the field will rain Scotty goals ;)

Maybe Bock could possibly go? Someone has to go for Scott Stevens.

Biglands, Hart and Goodwin may also all be available this week as well. Biglands is a certainty to be.

Hudson, Bock, Bode, Gallagher and Perrie would appear to be the most in danger of losing their spot - but not necessarily all of them.

Hart will play with the crows though wont he? He has to, we really need him back in terms of leadership. I will never understand the dumping of Smarty either..

If Bode and Gags get dropped there is seriously something wrong. They havent put a foot wrong, just been given virtually no game time. They can't be dropped back to SANFL because they 'need' more game time. They are both good (and important) players and if they need more game time, they should get it in the AFL where they belong.

Should Reilly be ready too? Or still a week away?

I reckon Hart is a certain inclusin if ready. Biglands is not so clear cut but I reckon he will get straight in possibly at the expense of Perrie

Haven't you realised by now that if the match committee want to drop someone like Bode or Gallagher they would give them very little game time and send them back to SANFL for more match fitness or in case of Perrie match him up on a gun he has no hope of negating and he will be dropped for the lack of form ;)

Reilly should be back but I think he will be back at Sturt.

I would think Hart would resume with the Crows but he's a bit in Smart's boat. They both had a nightmare injury plagued pre-season. For that reason he wasn't playing like the champion he is before he had the latest injury.

Reilly is a good chance for this week, but once again injury has probably set him back to the SANFL.

Bodey and Gags are very unlucky - they sit on the bench most of the time accumulating splinters in their backsides, and then are usually the first to go when changes have to be made.

We have a rare problem with too many to choose from now that Jericho and Hentschel are really putting their hands up to be regular members of the team.

Yes I have noticed that and its a really cruel thing to do. If the player isnt playing well theres no need to muck around. Chuck them out and put in an inform player.

But this shouldnt be the case with Bode and Gags. They've been playing well and in no way deserve this treatment.

Actually maybe Ayres shouldve rotated Doughty and Bode/Gags to give them equal time. None are down on form and they all deserve equal time.

And, like I said, of course Reilly will be back with Sturt. And of course he will get injured again. He wont make the crows side again, I betcha.

Just off topic, he WAS in the huddle singing the crows song..brings a smile to the face :D

We should beat the Dons as they are atrocious outside Victoria.

Biglands would probably come in for an unlucky Huddo, although would it harm to bring him back through the Eagles given he has been out for 4 weeks? He's the type of guy who needs a workout.

Goody has to come back in if fit, even if he only plays a half. IMO, would take Bode's spot. He ususually does a good job on Hird, though may have to give that to Stinger.

S Stevens should come straight back in for Bock based on his form.

So who does Hart come in for? Probably an unlucky Mattner, or do we dare bring him back through North given he has been out for a very long time.

Defensive Matchups?
Hound on Lloyd.
Perrie on Bolton / Lucas at CHB.
Begley on Hird if he goes forward.

Given his interrupted preseason, I would prefer to see him stand up in a North game and hopefully get through it ok

I have a feeling Perrie will remain and as Ayres was talking him up after the game as part of his 'new' back 6. Seems they'll remain there until the AFC deems Smart and Hart fit and ready.

From an Essendon point of view I believe we are a chance if it is dry, it seems that every time we go to footy park it's bloody raining and we are the 2nd worst team in the competition in the wet, the honour of number 1 goes to the swannies.

I'd hope that with Allan now we would be a better chance of containing Biglands and Clarke who usually destroy us in the ruck.

Anyway if it's dry I think it will be close, within 20 points either way, if it rains crows by 7 goals.

I hope it buckets down like it did last year against Essendon when Carey colided with the friendly point post. Hopefully Carey and Welsh can put in another performace like they did that night. Both were fantastic. Carey's stats don't show just how good he was in that game.

Reckon it could be Welsh's last chance to perform before getting dropped. He needs to pull his finger out, particularly given we should have quite a few players returning in the next 1-2 weeks.

I would have no broblem If Ben came straight back but think it wold be wise to give him a run with North first to get some match fitness back as he has missed a lot of footy.

Biglands should come straight in but will be itneresting to see whether we go with two or three ruckman. Although I am sure Glenelg would love to see him in the Eagles team!!

If Goodwin and Stevens are fit they should play too.

Very hard for the selectors but that's good news.

Ladhams, Smart and Skipworth pushing hard for selection as well.

For mine

In - Biglands Goodwin Stevens

Out - Bode/Gallagher Bock and Hudson

Some very stiff players there, but that's good for the Club.

Wasnt the Essendon game in Rnd 15 the one where Welshy was on fire?

I think that might be the only thing saving him from 'eviction' out of West Lakes :(

He was ordinary on Saturday night :(

Welshy is, and always has been, a player who needs to play himself into form.

he will come good, as long as he stays healthy.

Yeah but can we afford to carry a couple of passengers. I know he is a class player but he is not performing and I think hs current form should be what he is judged on. He is on really thin ice and might find himself in SANFL this week. The only thing that could save him is the game he played against Bombers last year.

Stiffy,
I hear what you're saying, but the fact is we are a MUCH better team with Welshy firing, and we have to take the steps required to ensure he gets himself into match condition.

If he doesn't regain form, the team is worse for it, and that's not true of every player. At least not to the same extent, he is a front line player, and at this stage the only marking forward capable of kicking 50+ goals in a season.

does anyone here think adelaide can win because they are the better team?

or is it only because they are playing in adelaide?

Crows are the better team. ;) :p

Mind you it helps that the Dons can't play outside Melbourne...

Adelaide probably actually are the better team, apart from Lloyd.

Fletcher isn't what he was, and for a Hird we have a McLeod and a Ricciuto at the very least.

I think if you compared the line-ups Adelaide would come out ahead.

Of course, whether they play to the talent of their respective line-ups is another matter altogether.

It's Adelaide backing up the big Showdown win against an Essendon team that is an awful Footy Park (I refuse to call it AAMI Stadium) player.

Being a Roosters supporter - Yes Plz :D :p

Seriously - with this type of injury, the crows should take a softly, softly approach. You guys dont want to have Ben re-injure himself. If he is NOT 100% i wouldn't risk it!

Being a Lions Supporter I hope you guys beat the you-know-what out of effendon - their supporters give me the s***s! (pardon my french :o)

GO LIONS
GO CROWS
GO RYAN :D

I agree with everything you said The key is the bit where you say "we are a MUCH better team with Welshy firing". Firing being the key word. When he is firing he is by far our best forward and one of the best in the AFL BUT the thing is he is not firing. He is struggling. Maybe it would be best for all concenred (Welshy and the club) that he goes to Westies for a week or 2 to get his confidence up and get back into form. At his best he is a 50 goal player. With his current form he is a passenger.

Couldn't agree more... I was watching bits and pieces of the game on FFC this morning and Welshy looked on the back foot around packs and just didn't have any of the spark which makes him such a damaging forward.

He may well be carrying another niggle but there is no doubt his form is way off and he'd do well to have a run around with Westies for a fortnight.

Reckon we give Welshy one last chance given Essendon have nightmares about his performance against them in the corresponding game last year. Would play him out of FF with Carey & Kenny playing across HF. If Welshy doesn't perform, the he should be sent back to the SANFL (particularly as we should have a few players coming back & pressure will be on for spots).

This is how I would line them up

IN: Rhett Biglands, Scott Stevens, Chris Ladhams
OUT: Nathan Bock, Matthew Bode, Ian Perrie :(

_F: _ 9. Tyson Edwards _ 17. Scott Welsh _ 18. Graham Johncock
HF: _ 2. Wayne Carey _ 16. Ken McGregor _ 27. Scott Stevens
_C: _ 30. Luke Jericho _ 20. Tyson Stenglein _ 24. Brett Burton
HB: _ 3. Kris Massie _ 37. Trent Hentschel _ 11. Michael Doughty
_B: _ 8. Nathan Bassett _ 35. Rhet Biglands _ 28. James Begley
1R: _ 4. Matthew Clarke _ 32. Mark Ricciuto _ 23. Andrew McLeod

INT: _ 13. Ben Hudson _ 21. James Gallagher _ 39. Martin Mattner _ 40. Chris Ladhams

EMG: _ 22. Ian Perrie _ 7. Nigel Smart _ 26. Jacob Schuback

I know half forward line looks really tall but I would play Welshy one out of the goals square and everyone else across half forward.
