very clever, but freaks don't make good footballers, i'd rather a strong marking forward who can crush a pack for the ball than a "freak" who gets scared and stays on the outside and kicks the odd goal

If we didn't have Kennedy, I'd prefer Carlton select Gumbleton since he is a genuine CHF and he is a great contested mark. And it wouldn't be harder to be a more mature player than Franklin who they assigned a minder to in his first year.
Has Franklin even torched a top side?
Or just the sides down the bottom of the ladder who have weak backlines and average midfields that don't push back?
A Gumbleton or Kennedy have the size and aggression to rag doll most of the defenders who gets in their way. Lance Franklin was ragdolled by the smaller Beau Waters and didn't get up. I don't see Gumbleton or Kennedy taking that from a player and not giving it back in spades.

It happened right in front of me. Franklin knocked the absolute tripe out of Cousins, who may be smaller, but is built. On the ensuing piece of play, Franklin grabbed the ball and was tackled by two Eagles and then ridden over the boundary line and into the ground by both players, incensed by the hurt that Buddy had just inflicted on their "spiritual leader". They landed awkwardly and the 19yo Franklin hurt his shoulder. He wasn't rag-dolled. It was good payback by the Eagles, sweet timing, but there was no shame for Buddy. More like shame for the umpires or MRP. Ridiculous that West Coast were able to deliberately injure one of our blokes outside the rules and nothing was done, but there you go. He'll learn from that...
The boy rebounded from his "rag-dolling" to be one of our best the following week against the Crows in Adelaide when he kept us in the game for three and a half quarters with some strong marking, forward play and kicked three goals.
