Like i said the result of that game didn't matter, the overall result did... The whole football world saw that you were tough guy pretenders, when push became shove you were found wanting and nearly bled to death.
You wen't downhill after that, the intimidation myth over all AFL clubs was now dead and buried. Hawthorn now has a 3 and 1 win record over Essendon since that game, actually it should be 4 - nill if it wasn't for some blatant cheating but thats just a sure sign of a desperate club.

Essendon were renowned for there sniping and their dirty tactics, but no clubs ever fought back untill Hawthorn gave it back in spades. Since that day hard football has beaten Essendon with the club becoming more and more timid since that frightful bashing they recieved at the hands of the Hawthorn FC, its still fresh in the minds of Essendon players to this day, the way M Lloyd rolling on the ground in a ball fearfull for his life further proves my point.
Hawthorn are now winning matches against Essendon and so are many clubs it worked a treat against you bunch of pretenders.
