Impossible to predict who will and wont make the 8 at the moment.
Outside of Collingwood, Geelong, Richmond and Adelaide noone is a lock for either.

It's easy to say yep we'll beat the Crows, and you probably will. But despite their shocking start to the season they still have some quality players who will most likely turn it on at some stage this season, likewise Hawthorn.

Essendon are so up and down that you cant lock them in to any win. (yes, yes i realise Carlton are the same).
Richmond are the biggest lock in for a win, but they have done alright against Essendon, so you just never know.

However, in ladder predictor i think i have them 8th at the moment.

apart from that last line, my thoughts exactly

Essendon have been playing way below the ability of their list. Will give most teams a run from here if they keep their tails up.
Agree. If we keep going that hard at the footy, we'll worry just about everyone. Polish and finishing isn't there...yet - and that's what'll hold us back. We didn't play much better against Saints than Port... just kicked better.

Rubbish - the are 3-5 with the Tigers, Dogs, Syd in Syd and Cats. 4 - 8 their season is over.
Has nothing to do with what he said.

It will be very hard to make the finals. I just did a quick ladder predictor and I had us missing out even if we only lose 3-4 more games for the year.

Unless Freemantle, Sydney, St Kilda or Port fall in a heap for about 5 weeks and lose games they shouldn't I can't see it happening. The fixture is too tough.

Freo will be top 4.
Sydney and Port will slide to 8-10.

I see Port, Essendon and Sydney taking 8th-10th spots. I also predict Carlton to slide down :thumbsu:

Dons will win 8-9 of their next 14 games with the following all winnable, Richmond, West Coast in Melbourne, Adelaide in Melbourne, Brisbane in Melbourne, Hawthorn, St. Kilda, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Carlton.

I can see us dropping the North game and possibly the Carlton game. I would expect wins in the others.

Losses to Geelong, Bulldogs x 2 and Collingwood are just about a given.

11-13 wins. 11 wins won't get you in the 8 this year.

Knights and by extension Essendon need to work out whether Hurley is a forward or back. He went back because of injury, but judging by Knight's post-match address, it seems he may want to keep him back. It's good to have an Adam Hunter type swingman, but the kid needs some stability.

The club also needs to work out if M.Williams is in the club's plans. We seem to be playinga a bit better now, so it would be good to get him in the team and he should give another good leading option.

Re: Essendon

Wouldn't read that much into beating an out of form St Kilda and an "in form-ish" Richmond. Dogs, on the other hand, excellent win and despite some saying they're out of form now, they were certainly in form coming into tonight. Big win and carries significant weight.

Re: Essendon

Nice win tonight but nothing to get a stiffy over. We're a long way from making a meaningful impression in the finals. Perhaps we can improve and make the finals this year and do something, but I'd not be surprised if we slump again and don't make or just scrape into the finals and repeat last year.

Re: Essendon

I look at them on paper and they look terrible. They go better than my perception of them but ultimately they will end up 7-12th again.

Re: Essendon

The Bulldogs haven't beaten anyone decent this season.

^^^^ this ^^^^

The dogs relied on a bunch of aging superstars last year (Johnson, Eagleton, Aker) who are now finiding it difficult to find form or even get on the park.

They are in much the same situation as Adelaide except they have better covered these older stars poor for., The problem is the olders guys are the ones who stood up at vital moments and won them close games last year, this year they are just losing those games.

Sadly for them they have got Hall 1-2 years to late, as for essendon i'd like to see you beat freo before writing you down for a top 8 spot.

You beat title contenders like Sydney and North, scrape home against Melbourne and lose to a Riewoldt-less Saints and you're in form?

Bombers are in red hot form, then!

this is true. almost didnt watch tonight after looking at the paper.
we're shaping up a lot like the pies. a good spread of players that do well they click together as a whole, but on paper doesnt look like anything special.

drop some stupid games though.
the eagles one hurts. as does the port one here.

either one and we'd be 6-5 and equal 4th with the saints and dogs.

Re: Essendon

playing their best footy they can in May.

Dogs showed in the last that had they pieced together their best footy for even 3 qtrs and the game would be over.

I still reckon Bombers are suspect under real pressure and they love to run fwd of the footy - they beat us late last year in junk time before finals and later without Riewoldt/Gram and struggling (by 12 pts).....Id like to get them with a fully fit side and with the pressure I know we can apply.

Re: Essendon

I think 5-5 is about right. There is some promise there but if every young promising team developed into a Premiership side they'd have to give out 5 a year.
