Draw seems to be favorable. Our start to the season seems to be 'easy' take away Carlton and collingwood who were always going to play first up.

Hmm so we play Carlton four days before Anzac Day and Collingwood plays Port here. That sucks balls!

EDIT: Must admit the rest of our fixture looks very nice :)

Why is the first Essendon v Carlton game for the year nearly always a Carlton home game? Last time I can recall the early fixture being our home game is 2008.

Probably not a huge issue, but the first game is often (marginally) more financially lucrative than the return bout.

FINALLY! The draw, at first glance, at long last seems at least a little fair.

After such a tough trot at least we won't be looking at the worst draw in the comp again. Interstate trip after bye might be interesting and of course it depends on the form of other teams but seems like a nice mixture of games and opponents that should be in our target range.

No big clusters at this stage that you would think "unwinnable for five rounds" so that should help the club build confidence. Shame we didn't get GWS twice.. would have thought the sheedy factor might have got us the easy gig.

So long away and I can't wait already. Really feel that we could be a bigger player next year in finals.

Four day break is crazy. It's going to be a sloppy ANZAC Day.

Skimmed over it, but it doesn't look like total shit for us, which is nice. Shame, I wanted something to rant about.

Want something to rant about? Check out North's draw.

Easy is too light a word.

Not getting GC twice last year or this year, or GWS twice this year is an absolute joke, but besides that very happy with the fixture. Given that we have to play Carlton and Collingwood twice, the other 3 teams being Port Adeaide, Richmond and North we certainly can't complain about. 5 interstate trips, two being to GWS and GC is a blessing imo. Two to Adelaide and just one to Perth, whilst getting both Sydney and West Coast only once in Melbourne is good enough for me, I'll take that every year.

My review. This is the best draw we have had in 8-10 years.
- 5 interstate games to the 5 teams we can beat. It's a blessing we have GC/GWS. (Gold Coast will beat a couple of teams up there, hopefully not us).
- 5 teams we play twice is decent too. Collingwood/Carlton/North/Richmond and Port.
- First half of the year will set us up perfectly

Norf Port GC Blues Pies???

F me. We'll be 1-4.

Fuuuuuuuu....

Next 6 look like 6 straight wins, though.

Then the 5 after that, well, thank god for St K; we'll do well to get 2 out of that lot.

Then we might, might win 1 of the last 6, but I've learnt not to get confident about Richmond games.

We are ****ed. Typical draw for us. Last 5 look ****ing impossible just to sap any sort of confidence & momentum.

We will win 5 games, max, after round 11. And quite possibly only 2 or 3.

Not a bad draw. We would want to be firmly entrenched in the 8 after round 16 I think, but things can change quickly in a season I suppose.

Merely going off a first glance, but it certain seems like we should be pushing for a position comfortably inside the eight during the first half of the year if all goes well. The latter half seems more difficult, but we usually perform well when we appear up against it.

This ANZAC day will be massive. Four day break for both clubs, players absolutely exhausted and fatigued at the start of the last quarter. I'm looking forward to it.

Oh, wait. Didn't notice that with the four day breaks, we're coming of Carlton, and the Pies are coming off Port.

Equitable!

Got your knickers twisted into a bunch here mate.

It's not that bad!

I'm inclined to think you're taking the piss actually. Not like you to be so negative slatts.

Realistically, looking at the draw, I think we're a good chance for 12-14 wins. Which will have us playing finals comfortably.

looks pretty good to me
we should be aiming to be 7-4 at least at the halfway point

best draw i've seen for us in years. play only 1 top 4 side twice.
if 2 of your interstate trips are to GWS and GC, you'll take that every time.

Here's to hoping Butcher tears Reid and the other Collingwood defenders a new one, and makes that game slightly more challenging for the Pies than you'd anticipate..

Meh, I sort of agree with S20 (even if he is taking the piss) Port and North are massive bogey teams for us. Then we will need to perform very well to get close to Carlton and then Collingwood off a 4 day break.

Interesting times ahead.

North have given us difficulty in the past, but at the end of the day, the last four contests between the two sides have gone 2-2. I remember feeling shattered when I heard our 2008 opener was against North, because at that stage we hadn't beaten them since 2001. But it's evened up now.

The less said about our record against Port, the better.

Having said that, it's been a long time since we've been this much clearly better than them, so I'm not as worried about playing them as I once would have been.

Purely from a crowd drawing perspective, I think what disappoints me the most is that our games against Geelong and Hawthorn are both at Etihad, despite being Friday night games.

Both should have been played at the MCG. They could both draw 60k+ at the MCG, possibly close to 70+ in the case of Hawthorn.
