Having an argument with a mate as to which is better...

ESSENDON:
FB: Slattery; Hurley; Pears / Daniher
HB: Dempsey; Ryder; Myers

MELBOURNE:
FB: Bennell / Cheney; Warnock/ Martin; Frawley
HB: Garland; Rivers; Grimes

Both will be solid enough. Both very young defences but showing good signs.

It's our forward lines that I am more concerned about. :(My bias says Essendon.

I think Cale Hooker will play a large role there for us as well.
Even though slattery looks a dud, I think he is not as bad as peole make out. Better defensive pressure from our mids would help his cause, and the rest of them, a hell of a lot.
We get caught out so many times from quick turnovers.

Good Midfield defence makes even average backlines perform better.

Melbourne just, also due to the fact that I think that Ryder will no longer be back unless they are desperate for defenders, which may happen tonight:thumbsu:

Both teams have really good young defenses being built. In a few years time they'll be top of the league. Got a great blend of KPPs and rebounders.
Pears and Dempsey have looked good recently, and we've barely seen Hurley yet. Though Myers hasnt been great yet this year, but I'm sure he'll come good as he's a talented young lad.
Frawley has been great this year, and is starting to show why he was such a high draft pick. I really like his pace and rebounding for such a big guy. Warnock has been rock solid too.

As a Melbourne supporter, I'm bloody glad to see how good our defense is becoming. For as long as I can remember our backline has been our weakness, our forward line our strength. Now it's reversed! Though with Watts (and maybe Butcher...) it's already being rectified and strengthened. Cant wait to see all the talent in our side flourishing in a few years time.

Both the Dons and Dees have exciting futures ahead if the talent on their lists can flourish like we all hope.

Agree, seems like we both just missed out on being screwed by the GC raping the draft.
