For some off-season fun I'm proposing a draft of all Essendon players where posters get to name their best 23.

1,214 players have played for Essendon so entry is strictly capped at 52 posters.

Draft ordered will be a randomised snake order and of course each player can only be drafted once.

Once teams are drafted they'll be pitted against one another in series of polls until we have a winner.

I'm going to name someone I actually knew, absolute ripper bloke but little left field.

Brian Walsh - Was a rover/forward pocket whos probably best known for topping Carltons goal kicking in 1973, a year they were runners up.

Transferred to us midway through 75 after having a falling out at Carlton. Played our last 10 games of that season for 33 goals whilst averaging 23 disposals. This includes a 28 disposal, 7 goal herculean effort in the last round as we stunned minor premiers Hawthorne.

Sadly injuries meant we never saw the best of him long but still had a very respectable 100 goals from 51 games.

Will take Hugh Mitchell and plonk him at Full Forward.

A general forward and later a Ruck/Rover. Gives me flexibility in the forward line and the ability to pick a big boy later.

Another 84/85 hero who adds serious toughness and pack reading and allows me to use Forbes as a forward threat.

Look Whos Talking Now Omg GIF

Loved Daisy as a kid.

Are our teams playing according to current rules and protocols? If so Daisy will play about 2 games a year, missing the rest due to concussion protocols. He was tough and never shied away from putting his head over the ball, but bloody hell his head got taken off almost every other week too.

Going to go for a second ruckman in the gentle giant Geoff Leek to sit on the bench and rotate with Don McKenzie who can go forward if needed.

Glenn Hawker

One of the most composed players in my time and a silky kick to leading forwards. A true utility, I have the flexibility to move him as I fill my team.

1986 BnF.
