For some off-season fun I'm proposing a draft of all Essendon players where posters get to name their best 23.

1,214 players have played for Essendon so entry is strictly capped at 52 posters.

Draft ordered will be a randomised snake order and of course each player can only be drafted once.

Once teams are drafted they'll be pitted against one another in series of polls until we have a winner.

A man that played just 19 games for Essendon.

However he played 128 games for Richmond, won their goal kicking twice, played off the half back line in 2 flags, played 4 games for Victoria and was inducted into Richmond's hall of fame in 2019.

Percy Bushby, won the 1944 B&F in an era where Reynolds, Buttsworth and Hutchinson dominated the Crichton. Dual premiership player, state representative and All Australian, as a ruck/defender he adds real depth and flexibility to the side.

Arguably the greatest what could have been (typical Essendon fashion)
Scott Gumbleton

**** it. Even with two ruckmen already he is too good to pass up.

I am taking Hugh Torney who as a ruckman came second in the Brownlow and won a best and fairest and was also a noticable goal kicker. He can play in my forward half and relief ruck down there to allow McKenzie and Leek to hang back as a spare behind the ball.

Moves Gosper onto the bench as a utility who can go anywhere needed.

FB: D. Hardwick - A. Daniher - G. Wanganeen

Done and dusted. Mix of old and new players and plenty of grunt.

Love his work rate. Can kick a goal and gets back to defend. Very happy to have him as my X-factor off the bench. And my team gets the bow and arrow for some show-boating to go with Stringer’s theatrics and the Budgie throwing opposition headbands into the crowd.
