Well this is all very interesting. Dank has just tied all of the strings together. The email chain WADA released is accurate and there is no other letter.

Equally, I think I can see now an answer to the conundrum that has plagued me - how Dank could possibly have fooled Dr Reid (or others, if Reid was frozen out) and Dr Bates. That's why I've been convinced there must have been some sort of correspondence. There was, of course, and that was only the emails WADA released. So how did that do the trick?


What I take out of this is that Dank does indeed think he is the "smartest person in the world", and what's more, he's very, very persuasive. I can see how the above reasoning, expressed confidently and forcefully - along with the email - might have fooled the powers that be at Essendon and Melbourne.

Well he said there was a letter and two doctors from two clubs have sadi they've seen it. Maybe Dank realises he may actually be asked to produce that letter in either a Senate hearing or court. If that letter is a fraud then case against him will grow.

So now he decides to deliberately misinterpret the WADA code and try for the old "oh must have been an innocent mistake. too bad".

I'm afraid that if Dr Reid tried to escalate concerns to the Board - if that's what happened - then this goes way beyond the good doctor.

Yeah but when/why dod he do it? He and other medical staff may have ok'd to start the program but may have had doubts on effectiveness/length later on. If he had serious doubts about legalities and was ignored wouldn't any right minded doctor resign?

that is pretty much my reading of it as well.

Dank was being too clever by half. His reputation as being the smartest man in the room when it came to sport biochemistry preceded him and Hird left him to it.

Dank is aware the product is on the market and is approved in some form. He is basically confirming whether or not it falls under S2. It didn't fall under S2 according to WADA and ASADA so all is good.

Referencs to S0 have probably been left out on legal advice as it is clear that this will be the basis of Essendons defence to ASADA given they haven't 'conceded' that they have taken banned substances.

Doc Reid was specifically chosen as the person responsible for supplement selection as detailed in the leaked email from Robinson. Reid allegedly has said he has seen evidence AOD was ok so clearly he reviewed and passed the supplement for use. Hird is responsible for the football department, not the medical department.
