There's some studies that have been done that indicate something like 90% of all people would break the law if they knew they weren't going to get caught...here's a bloke who tells them what they want to hear, at a club that has a strong central personality culture going on.

I once worked for a destructive narcissist and I'm not claiming that was the personality here, but this person encouraged those around to get on board his ideas or you were an enemy and treated as such. Governance totally went out the window and you couldn't question anything including the clearly shonky procurements being done. If you did the whole group of sycophants turned on you and attempted to bully those not on board.

I outlasted them being razor ganged when the organisation had had enough by being the sole voice of reason throughout and spent the last four years fixing it all including the culture.

So I can see how strong, persuasive personalities combined with those willing to follow can override common sense.

Funny what happened at club level is now being replicated at supporter level.

If Doc Reid had done what he should have, which is dobbed the club into ASADA and then resigned, he would be cursed as a traitor to Essendon by many of the people posting in this thread.

After all, Essendon have permission from WADA to use these substances !

If Dank told Hird that the program was close to the edge I would hope that Hird was checking each substance used with Dr Reid. Not only that any competent department head would base their continued involvement in a close to the edge supplements program on a full report from the head of the medical deparment which provides clarity on the legality of substances used.

Basing it on the word of the new guy is ****ed beyond belief. Given that Reid reportedly had concerns then I would conclude that other senior staff failed miserably in their duty to put correct processes in place. If that happened in any other organization in any other industry, given the fallout and bad press, those people would be out on their arses by now.

Dr Reid has provided ASADA with copious notes of practices that worried him and warnings he gave. He said he voiced misgivings to several administrators at the club and key football department personnel.
He also reported that he wrote to the board with his concerns, although it is uncertain whether the Essendon directors were ever made aware of that letter.

Try to take a step back and look at everything drip fed to you so far. Then decide if you have enough to formulate an opinion that fits. This goes for bomber supporters too. Nearly every post I'm seeing is from someone who's made up their minds already on scant evidence one way or the other. Try to approach this like the professionals would and you'll find the whole process a lot more interesting and rewarding.

I dont see how - there are no official comments on the investigation (what you say may be used against you) but nothing wrong with leaking approved documents under the auspices of the Federal Government and ASADA is governed by the Federal Government.. it's not the executive summary & final report - so its a peice of paper for public domain use used for research and discussion. We don't know how much of performance enhancing drugs are used and what the lasting effects are. We will find out in late August/Early September when results from Germany are known.

The Tippet story had plenty of leaks - the Carlton story had plenty of leaks - the Melbourne story had plenty of leaks. The West Coast story had plenty of leaks.. This isn't a conspiracy.. providing no official statements are made - reporters and everyone else are more than freely to discuss. If there are no leaks then anything and everything can be reported in all different sorts of tangents that can influence an outcome.
