He won't leave- loves it here and we will have the money to keep him, especially as we are entering our window.

A lot can happen from now until this season and next season. As far as I know, you could have a couple of recruits through Free Agency. Hopefully you guys dont get hurt with the off field stuff.

It was considered a weak draft, in addition to which it was massively compromised. Hooker is at best an honest footballer who has a bit of height, but everyone knows his limitations - he can't use his left side at all, is an average kick, and plays his role in the backline by negating.

Clubs want much more than that from a first round draft pick. Hence, I'm using the word honest as an euphemism for mediocre.

An average kick? He isn't a key forward. There are barely any stay at home full backs that are great kicks of the footy! He is the leading marker in the comp, what he does he does very well, there is a reason we score a high % of goals from turnovers- Hooker starts it!

I agree, and honestly a more realistic target is probably Tayte Pears. Look I would look at something like:

Your 1st + Your 2nd for Hooker + Our 3rd but you are paying overs and I hate the notion of screwing clubs. Plus I actually like Fremantle. If I were you, go after Gumbleton, there is your key forward and then look at Pears for a 3rd rounder. He isn't Hooker but neither was Zac Dawson and he has been a solid purchase.

Is pears at your team a Key defender or does he play as a 2nd or 3rd tall in your defence?

Whatever happens off field happens, as a fan, will stick solid. I am sure you will have a look at Hooker- and honestly who wouldn't. People who know the game, know he plays a critical role in attacking raids. If Hooker were to leave I would rather he go to Freo. I want you to win a flag before the expansions do.

Plays both, I still feel his best games have been as a key defender, probably not your stay at home key back but you could do much worse than having Pears who is a good kick in your backline.

Quit deflecting. Hooker has been one of Essendon's most important player's defensively in 2013. He leads the competition in intercept marks, and seeing as Essendon are one of the best sides in terms of goals from turnovers it's obvious that he marks the ball from opposition mids and turns defence into attack by setting up the goal with an intercept mark. He knows his limitations and sticks within them. He is the kind of bloke who is valued a lot more internally than what he'd get on the trade table

This! Would be a Lyon masterstroke if they can get him, he is a very, very good defender.

If I'm deflecting then what are you? What is his value on the trade table coming into a draft which is rumoured to have depth, and is the first in several years which isn't significantly compromised?

That's a very good point. As any club foolish enough to trade with essendon would have to be aware that individuals may still get sanctioned as a consequence of taking banned substances.

Certainly, it would be a case of buyer beware.

Look I still feel by November we will know one way or another, and I am not saying we are guilty or not. Just saying before the trading period we will know what is happening. Personally I don't think the penalties will be that much anyway, but that is a personal view of course. If they happen, they happen. We will deal with it then.

Depth? Huh..this draft does drop off quite significantly. It is a midfield draft, but after the first 20, it does drop. The last few drafts have been much deeper even if they were compromised

Considering that he's improved significantly more, a first round pick. That's what we'd need to get the deal done

You've reached that opinion already? Well good for you, your wasting your time on BigFooty you should be involved in essendon's list management and trading.

You know there is a reason why no club wants to trade with essendon and it has something to do with how they massively over-rate their own players and as a strange quirk find little pick value in other clubs' players i.e. the attempt to rip Gold Coast off over Caddy.

Would you honestly take Josh Caddy over Kavanagh and Hooker right now? That trade massively favoured the Suns and Pretty much every Essendon supporter is happy that it didn't go through, because right now Kav and Hooker shits on Caddy
You won't get a deal then.

I'd rather keep him anyway

I'd prefer Caddy.

More importantly, the GC did as well and were able to turn it around the following season and obtain a higher pick.

You'd rather a bloke who can't crack it into Geelong's midfield to a key defender who's better all by himself since the trade was proposed and another young midfielder who's showing as good signs as Caddy in the VFL?

Just about the best midfield in the competition and he has come in as a 20 year old and shown plenty. Caddy is developing beautifully and Geelong has the luxury of being able to develop him properly because of the strength of their older and more developed midfielders.

I can see the reason why Essendon were so keen on him, especially as the future for essendon is spuds like Melksham. So yes, I would prefer Caddy and by some distance.

You wish you had Melksham at Carlton. Shits on the spuds Curnow, Lucas, Squibbsy, Yarran and Armfield tonight. You talk about about development of Caddy, yet Melksham is averaging 18 touches a match as a 9th midfielder. Developing nicely as a 21 year old

In our household, Melksham is known as 'The Blonk' or 'That useless bastard'.

You are the 1st Essendon poster to stick up for melksham. Most weeks last year your mob was calling for him to be axed. Disappointing is an understatement.

Last year Melksham put on too much weight too quickly and it affected his performance. The fact that he's slimmed down and has clearly improved and has become a solid contributer, especially in the last month (with the exception of the GC game- but he got a knock early and was playing injured for the rest of the game). 2012 Melksham was horrible though
