I honestly don't think the German's will get through. Their side isn't overly impressive and the Czech's could humble them and finish second - Holland to be a runaway winner though.

They should also win an award for services to humanity due to the fact they kept Turkey out of Portugal and made the tournament a whole lot safer. :)

Euro2004 Qualifying Group 3

Netherlands 1-1 Czech Republic
Czech Republic 3-1 Netherlands

I reckon the Czechs will win the group followed by the Germans.

Germany's side and form didn't seem that good in WC '02, yet they made the final, same for the Wallabies in the RWC '03. Don't write those crafty Germans off yet.

My tips:

Group A
Portugal
Spain
Russia
Greece

Group B
France
England
Switzerland
Croatia

Group C
Italy
Sweden
Denmark
Bulgaria

Group D
Netherlands
Germany
Czech Republic
Latvia

Group D is definitely the most interesting one, 3 quality teams...and Latvia. Mind you, any team that can pull back 2 goals in Istanbul deserves respect.

Switzerland have a very tough task ahead - mind you they held the Poms 1-1 last time they met in Euro.

Portugal v Spain is going to be a tasty match, who can choke the most?

Or anything else but 'a dodgy ref'.
Well its impossible for us to get a corrupt, fat goat herder from Ecquador to ref our games, we should be right! Byron Moreno.....how's he going as a ref? Didnt he get the a$$ from FIFA after he was suspended for 20 league matches for adding an extra 15 minutes of extra time and in that time giving 2 red cards and 3 penalties. And funny the team who he did this too, the team they were playing was from a town where Moreno was running for mayor. "Dodgy ref"??? What do you reakon???

And of course that, and not Italy's appalling defensive gameplan and lack of goalscorers was the reason they didn't win the World Cup.

Agree golden hawk, but a ref who should be a goat herder should not have been refeering a quarter final in the world cup. That was a tournament for the best soccer players, for the best soccer teams therefore needed to be officiated by the best refs. not someone who wouldnt get a job in Serie C2.

And I do belive that the Italian coaching staff will always regret playing that style at the 2002 WC, but remember we had over 4 LEGITIMATE goals disallowed, and the most important one which would have sent us through to the quarters.

And our game plan wasnt too much different to the germans yet they made the final. But I can I ask who would you feel if you were Spanish after seeing 2, not 1 but 2 absolute legitimate goals disallowed, do they have a right to feel dirty or you going to make up something about they way they played???

A soccer team didnt beat Italy or Spain, but their mighty $$$$$$$$$$$$ did. And of course, this is my opinion but most Italians and esspecially Spanish agree with me.

Spain scored three perfectly good goals against Korea in the very next match and it didn't help them any.

18 months on, are there any Koreans who can kick a football outside their native land?

I saw an interview with Blatter somewhere and he said himself he wasn't happy with the standard of refereeing at the World Cup. If money hadn't changed hands then the Pope's not Catholic.

Spain were jibbed, no doubt about that.

But Italy played some average football for most of the tournament and for people to say they were "robbed of the World Cup" is ridiculous. And what were the 4 goals they were unfairly denied?

Look at their results:
Beat Ecuador 2-0: Two early Vieri goals, shut up shop from there.

Lost to Croatia 2-1: Again, an early Vieri goal and put up the shutters, got hurt with 2 late goals.

Drew with Mexico 1-1: Struggled most of the match until a late goal.

Lost to Korea 2-1: Again, Vieri scores early, Italians go defensive and are caught late in both normal and extra time.

I'll only give you the 1 example that mattered, and that was the goal that was disallowed in silver time against korea. And did you actually whatch any of Italy's games or you commenting from articles (which I think you are doing)?? Cause if you did, then you would know of the examples!

Yes, I remember the examples, and I saw nearly every game in the World Cup (and have the DVD of the tournament).

From memory, Vieri had a header called offside (against Ecuador?) that was a poor decision.

The goal where the ball was put through was correctly disallowed because Inzaghi clearly pulled on the defender's shirt.

Montella was called offside against Mexico, that was 50-50 but probably incorrect.

But that 'goal' that was disallowed in silver time against Korea is a bit of stretch. Although onside, the defenders and goalie clearly stopped before the shot was put in, so who knows what would have happened.
