Yes, he was (probably) onside. But even if play had been allowed to run who's to say a goal would have been scored? I doubt very much the goalie and defender would have both just stood there and let him dribble the ball into the back of the net.

The flag went up at least 2-3 seconds before the goal was scored and the Koreans stopped because they had seen the flag. Whether the goal would have been actually scored or not we will never know.

And as Australia didn't make it I was barracking for Ireland.

And who is to say he wouldnt have scored?? You? Les Murray?? Youve got your version, ive got mine. Look im Italian and of course I'll defend my team (when they need defending from people in this country) but In my opinion, as ive stated in this thread before the south korean Won got them into the quarters, nothing more and nothing less. Then Spain felt the wrath of the mighty Korean Won.

Can I ask where the ref who did the Italy V Korea game is now? Look him up, his name is Byron Moreno and see how much FIFA rated him after the WC.

No More Byron Moreno to Kick Around Yahoo! Sports
Well, we won't have Byron Moreno to kick around anymore. He's decided to retire before getting kicked out by FIFA.

After making several shockingly bad calls against Italy during the Italy-South Korea match in the 2002 World Cup, Mr. Moreno kept the controversy fire roaring in an Ecuadorean league game later in 2002. He added over ten minutes of injury time to the game, while officially recording that the game went only the regular 90 minutes. Liga de Quito scored in the 99th and 101st minutes to come from behind and win 4-3. At the time, Moreno was running for a city council position in Quito. This earned him a twenty match suspension.

In his third match after serving the twenty match suspension, he sent off three players for Deportivo Quito in their match against Deportivo Cuenca. This earned him yet another suspension.

MLS has some pretty mediocre refs, but I don't think I have ever heard of a professional ref as bad as Byron Moreno. Goodbye, good riddance.

What a legend this guy his, surely FIFA should reward him for his fantastic job he has done.

Fifa investigates Moreno

Moreno incensed the Italian team at the World Cup

Fifa has launched an investigation into controversial Ecuadorian referee Byron Moreno.
The decision follows a league match in Ecuador, which resulted in Moreno being handed a 20-match ban by the national football association.

World Cup referee feeling flush
Moreno was also criticised by Italy after their defeat to South Korea at the World Cup.

To show what they think of him, he has had a row of toilets named after him in Italy. (AND THAT'S WHAT HE DESREVES!)

In a statement Fifa said: "As a result of a number of controversies regarding referee Byron Moreno in Japan, Italy and South America over the past few months, Fifa has decided to launch an investigation into the affair.

"The Fifa disciplinary committee has been entrusted with dealing with the matter."

Political ambition

Moreno was suspended by the Ecuadorian Football Federation after the first division match between Liga de Quito and Barcelona of Guayquil.

After signalling six minutes of injury time in the game, he instead played 13, during which time home side Quito scored twice to win 4-3.

He also awarded two hotly-disputed penalties, sent off two players and caused confusion by first awarding a goal and then disallowing it.

Moreno is standing as a candidate in local elections in Quito next month and Barcelona president Leonardo Bohrer claimed that it was unethical for him continue refereeing in the meantime.

At the World Cup, Moreno was criticised by Italian squad members and fans after they lost 2-1 to South Korea.

Moreno awarded a debatable early penalty to South Korea, disallowed a Damiano Tomassi goal that would have won the game for Italy (NOT ACCORDING TO YOU GLODEN LES MURRAY)and then sent off striker Francesco Totti in extra time for diving.

DO YOU WANT ME CONTINUE??

Darren Goldspink and Michael Vozzo absolutely rodgered Hawthorn in the 2001 Preliminary Final. It's never been forgotten by any Hawk supporter.

So I can understand your disdain for Moreno.

However, Hawthorn supporters also acknowledge a woeful 2nd quarter, some poor decision making and the fact we would have been smashed by the Lions means we wouldn't have won the flag anyway.

Italians on the other hand seem convinced if they had beaten Korea the WC was a cake walk from there after.

Dodgy ref or not, Italy were average in the 2002 World Cup.

Completely different as Croad was given his opportunity to win it but blew it, we werent given our chance to advance, there is a difference.

And not once did I say that we would have won the cup so dont know were youre getting that from. But remember, Croad got his chance, WE DIDNT!

I seem to recall Vieri scooping a shot over the bar from point-blank range. Which is my book is called "blowing it".

I support Australia, the country where I was born and have spent the bulk of my life. I thought that was fairly obvious.

Im glad you support Australia moomba, I would have loved to have been with you when that little iraqi ran amok at the MCG, what a great night that was! I bet you would have shown your true colours like our PM did during the rugby WC, showing what bad sports, sore losers, bad winners, flavour of the month experts you aussies really are.

But maybe you would like to join me for a holiday in Uruagay, I heard its beautiful over there, esspecially when WC qualifaction time is on!

Stick to beating quality opposition like tonga, the cook islands and Fiji, you know, this countrys standard!

I notice our Italian friend has left this little gem alone. What a miss that was - I do believe the commentator described it as "the miss of the World Cup" at the time.

But of course, Italy were denied their chance weren't they?

And I didn't realise we played Iraq in 1998.

Too true nandrolone Rio, so they figured out what drugs he was taking then?? Or is the FA too busy with the drunks and thugs in the EPL at the moment?

So they found the drunk driver who killed that bloke yet? How about Alan Smith, how is he traveling at the moment or should I say how is the bottle traveling at the moment? But your main concern should be the russian criminal walking over the EPL , the russian mafia in the EPL, you guys should be so proud!

But make sure you find the drunk driver first, the drugs Rio is on, make sure Alan Smith's new sponsor is a coke bottle and I wont even mention that Jody Morris fellow, for your sake!

Lets not hide the fact he tested negative to a drug test 24 or 48 hours later. Hmm...

Besides, why don't we ask Inter and Lazio which masking agents are the best? :D

Lets ask Lazio??? I wonder where the player who tested positive came from?? Lets make sure Rio is clean before Sir Alex boots him out like he did with the guy who came to the Serie A (and look, I cant put a little smile there as well!) :D

Oooh, the pain. And I'd only just got over the pain of that game, only for you to bring it all up again. How will I ever cope.

But maybe you would like to join me for a holiday in Uruagay, I heard its beautiful over there, esspecially when WC qualifaction time is on!
Ouch, again. Your biting repartee is exemplary. I think I'll have to have a lie down after this one.

OK then. I'll have a word to the Soccer Australia, I'm sure they will agree with you and I that we just can't be putting ourselves through matches against the rest of the world anymore.

:D (yes that's me laughing at you, tool)
