the joys of the europa league

knocked out early enough that its probably a good thing, i'm not one for losing ever but since we are in the FA Cup this season it's probably for the best. we are borderline good enough to compete in 2 comps definitely not good enough to compete in 3, especially in Europe where we are so naive.

best defence in the PL isnt it? yet conceded 3 against Gent

Anyone got a link to this challenge?

It's pathetic. Such a cowardly tackle. And then the faux innocence afterwards.

As an aside, have always wondered why players get applauded off after a red card. Especially one as bad as this. A lot of clubs do it, it's a bizarre thing in football.

Instead of blaming your poor European record on "not trying" perhaps you guys just aren't good enough in Europe. You never
seem to accept that when you invariably get knocked out in Europe. This time round you can hardly blame not having a full strength team either.

Yes it's a bit of a loser's mentality to say "we didn't try". Reminds me of when as a kid in school, when one footy team beats another it's because "oh we let you win" or "we didn't even try".

It's okay to say you just weren't good enough. Like when Arsenal reaches the round of 16 in the CL, we know exactly where we stand.

No defending that tackle at all.

Like I said earlier it's always been in him. Just glad it happened in the EL and hopefully Poch gets his head right. Only way he can learn how to handle the temper is to occassionally cross the line

not sure anyone has said we didnt try

we weren't good enough in the first leg with just 1 poor selection on Poch's behalf. Poch wasn't good enough in handling team selections in the group stage. there's no spurs fan who can actually say we didnt take it seriously

That'd be fine if I merely meant this tie and this tie only. I didn't, under Poch we don't take Europe seriously, find one Spurs fan that disagrees with that.

Sending a reserved side to Dortmund was a disgrace as was resting players for must win CL matches. Resting Vertonghen and Walker (with Alderweireld injured mind you) for Chelsea in Matchday 5 when we had to win comes to mind. This isn't about today as I thought the team/formation was right this morning but more broadly we've shown over multiple seasons we don't take it seriously and it's bloody annoying.

If you want to play weakened teams at times well Pochy buy some decent bench players. Again, nothing to do with today.

So yeah I'm already looking forward to S.S.D.D next CL/EL campaign.

Lol Alli does a Shawcross but the English media will gloss over it. Xhaka though is the worst, dirtiest player going around.

In all seriousness, that Alli challenge was a joke. What a piece of s**t tackle. Spurs proving to be far worse in Europe than we are.

The English pundits, ex players etc were all pretty disgusted by it.

Yeah, but will it last? I'm sure we won't hear any reference if it down the track as we will with Xhaka or other foreign players. "Not that type of lad" sort of stuff is the go-to. Still remember English pundits playing down Shawcross and Taylor's shockers on our players.

Who cares.

first red of his career, doubt it is the last but really has to make these incidents not become a regular occurrence if he is to go as far as he should

Who cares.

Haha, maybe Eduardo cares? Or Ramsey? Or this Gent player who mightn't be the same player again.

English pundits glossing over such tackles by English players is the reason why the EPL is such a hack league at times. It's why these challenges happen, it's why players like Charlie Adam make an art of it their entire career.

No need to get upset. You're in a safe place.

many pundits have come out and had a go at Alli just as much as anyone for a disgusting tackle

it's the first red card of his career, if it does become a regular thing then you'd hope they're just as hard on him as they are on regular foreign hacks like Xhaka who have multiple red cards a season
