Yeah, €30 million is nothing compared to other leagues but we are talking abut the grand scheme of Scottish football.

As i said.....Celtic "only spent €25m"......5x times the rest of the entire league combined at the same point, including Rangers.

Let's use the same scale (biggest spender x5 league window total) in the bigger leagues for context:

PSG "only spent €3.5 billion".....in a single season
Bayern "only spend €3 billion"....in a single season
juventus "only spent €4 billion"....in a single season...etc etc....

and that's just fees....not salary etc. Go look at the difference in player salary between Celtic and Rangers, let alone Celtic and the rest of the league.

"bringing together a group of players previously plying their trade in Japan, Russia, Poland, Holland, Portugal etc and turning them into a functional team"....Professional manager brings in Professional players from other Professional leagues to a Professional club on a unequalable scale and creates a functioning team that wins the league....more breaking news at 7 o'clock Tim!

Look, I'm very pro Ange, but trying to paint any success with Celtic as being some kind of tale of triumph over insurmountable odds is mind-boggling.

And if that's the path that the club chose, conveyed to Ange and the fans and were happy to write the season off on that basis then that's perfectly fine. That certainly doesn't seem to be what has happened, but even if it was, you then can’t then complain about squad issues if you deliberately chose the path that would exacerbate those issues.

Ok, he lost Kane, which yes, was a big blow....but all teams have to replace star players at some point.

It's not like it was a shock last minute transfer either....Kane didn't go out for Milk and just not return one day. Kane went out and a fat Deutsche Bank cheque with lots of 000's on it appeared in his place. Which was then exchanged for Dominic Solanke, although €65m spend directly on Milk products might have been the better investment given the inevitable calcium demands stemming from Tottenhams growing future youth investment.

And again, €450m spent on players....i've been told he's worked magic on similar shoe-string sized budgets in the past. I even heard rumours possible deals....15 players for just €30m! Only If you're willing to take a chance players from underdeveloped footballing nations like Japan, Russia, Poland, Holland, Portugal etc.

No, the awful football in the final wasn't helped by 3 of their most important players missing, including their only creative players but you know what could have helped with that......

It's been a tough season due to injuries. Nobody is disputing that, but a manager's job is to get the best results with the resources available. That's the job title...."Manager". Yes, winning the Europa League is a great effort. The season is salvaged.

But what if he didn't? Do you honestly think 21 league losses for a team of Tottenhams size and resourcing is getting the best results?

There's a lot to unpack at Tottenham in the off-season.
It didn’t really matter how much notice Spurs had or even what money they got in terms of a direct replacement, there isn’t one in world football. There’s a couple of strikers in the world at his level and Spurs aren’t shopping at that table. I think Solanke is a good player but it leaves them a clearly weaker team.

You could argue winning the Europa League at the expense of all else was getting the most out of his squad given where they were around the new year. They could’ve put full focus into the league, fought and scrapped for points for a nice 8th placed finish. Instead they focused on silverware and got the job done. I understand why season ticket holders especially wouldn’t be happy with that and it still might justifiably cost him his job, but if he is sacked he leaves the club in a much better place for going down that path and pulling it off than if he’d spent the past 5 months just trying to save his job.

Ignoring the fact managers don’t buy the players, I think Spurs would be pretty happy with what they’ve bought the past couple of years overall. Bergvall might already be their best midfielder, Gray has shown great signs and they’ve got 2 more promising youth signings still out on loan. Johnson has 25 G+A this season despite all of his criticisms. Maddison has probably been their most disappointing signing given he’s the one who was meant to be the one coming at the peak of his career but isn’t consistent enough.
