So who's watching it? Changed the format this year, semi final on Friday and the Final on Sunday night.

As usual I'll be watching it with a few mates and having a good laugh. One of the best nights of TV for the year.

What a pity it looks like we will miss Terry Wogan once again.

Here's a skulling game for anyone interested

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST DRINKING GAME

Drink two fingers...

Presenters

· Terry Wogan makes a satorical comment that no-one laughs at.
· Presenters try to be funny.
· Female presenter changes her dress
· Male presenter changes his dress - drain your glass
· Bad time delays during video/audio link
· Presenters overlapping with voter during video/audio link because of the bad delay
· Presenters having a time-wasting conversation that no-one can follow, understand or care less about.
· Terry Wogan’s predictions come true.

Performers

· Performer resembles someone you know.
· Performer resembles another famous person. Drink four fingers if that person is present in the audience. Drain your glass if the camera zooms in and lingers on that person.
· Singers wave their arms around whilst singing.
· Singers put excessive emotion into their singing.
· Tacky and nonsensical song titles (shoo-wop etc.)
· Main singer is grossly overweight.
· Singers try to join in with musicians during instrumentals.
· France does not conduct a musical experiment.
· Retro/out-of-date clothing and hairstyles.
· Singer from eastern Europe has faked blond hair.
· Bad dress-sense. Four fingers if it's blatently offensive.
· Visible/prominant nipples/genitalia.
· The Maltese performer does not have a hairy chest.
· High & loud obnoxious noises emitted from singer during their act.
· Unnecessary dancing.
· Act steals ideas from Eurovision acts from previous years
· Interaction with the audience. Four fingers if the audience is unusually passive.
· Dancing that surpasses belief and credibility.
· Foreign acts sing in English.
· Singer flirts with the camera when she has finished her song.
· The song goes up half an octave in the last refrain.
· A style of music that would be ruined by appearing in EuroSong.
· A country from Former Yugoslavia has a depressing song.
· Countries where the lead singer is not a native of that country.
· Use of atmospheric panpipes

The judging

· Reference made to Norway's null point.
· Cyprus gives Greece 12 points.
· Every time Norway gives Sweden any points but not vice-versa.
· Every time there is an Irish performer in a foreign act.
· France gives United Kingdom null point.
· Acts where the lead singer is attractive and receive high (8+) points and the act is crap.
· Surprising voting - you judge what's surprising!
· United Kingdom come second.
· Ireland win yet again.
· A question about Israel's presence.
· Politically-related effects during the act (eg. Croatian singer removing black gown to reveal white dress signifying "coming out of the darkness and into the light").
· Acts are on their mobile phone to their family during voting. Increase to a whopping four fingers if they're on the phone during their act.

Television coverage & venue

· Bad telecommunications link.
· Preview video is completely pointless and/or a blatant fragmented tourist advert for the host country
· Preview video is full of gormless smiles.
· National symbols are seen somewhere.
· Special effects are:
o Cheesy
o Better than the song
o Both (obviously this is a case for four fingers' worth)

DRAIN YOUR GLASS...

· If the winning country decline to hold the event next year due to:
o Financial reasons
o Political reasons
o Personal reasons
o Moral reasons
o All of the above
· If Germany spares one single point for her southern neighbour, Austria.
· If your own country comes first.
· If Norway does not give Sweden any points.
· Drink everything in sight if the United Kingdom come first and you're British.
· If Greece gives Turkey any points then stop drinking!. This is very unlikely to happen so you must be veeeeeery drunk at this time. GO TO BED.
· Germany's song does not mention peace, harmony or love...
· Of course, it's always a good idea to try and consume a single shot of alcohol native to a given country.

Is Wogan not doing it at all, or have SBS just decided to replace him with Des Mangan?
Disappointing in any case.

Eurovision is by far and away the best night of TV all year... European cheese at it's very best...My sisters and I hold an party for it every year.

I don't mind Des Mangan's work - I was sceptical but he did quite a good Wogan-esque job. Terry will always be king though.

Just be thankful we don't have a repeat of the year when we had the guest judges...that was dreadful

It seems we will not be getting TW, full stop. Obviously SBS have decided that running TW's version in a later time slot just cannibalises ratings from the main showing, so unfortunately no Terry for us

I wonder if this is the kind of 'change in attitude' that drove David and Margaret to Aunty?

Brits are still in it. Under the rules for this year 24 countries will play off on Friday night, and the top 10 will go through to the final.

There they will join the top 10 from last year plus the 4 countries that are always guaranteed a spot due to the high number of ratings they bring (I think it's UK, Spain, Germany and France).

But I agree, UK should have been given the chop after Jemini last year.

Never miss it , but this year there are too many males and not enough eye candy, although the Ukraine and Polish chicks don't look to bad.

I'm begining to think this heap of crap is a bigger event in Australia than it is in the UK - actually, it wouldn't take much. Is Aussie TV that bad?

I certainly don't know anyone here who watches it, or even has the slightest interest in it.

It still attracts TV viewing figures amongst the housebound, senile and lame but that's about it.

I almost fell of the couch when cyprus and greece gave turkey generous points last year, as far as this year goes greece are the favourites, dont understand why, hopefully they dont win either,
apparently this guy is suppose to be extremely good looking, not sure thats going to help in a song contest but from what i am aware of greece are the favourites. Did anyone else here that? Its probably on eurobet or something. I would like to see cyprus win or even malta if they are in it.

I just got confirmation that the singer from greece is a proven greek recording artist which may explain him being the favourite, why cant all the countries just have amateurs? has anyone seen the eurovision kids contest? i think their may be more talent on that then what is shown on the main eurovision.

I love eurovision, i thought the turks were brilliant last time out.

Not sure if those are the four, but it's NOT due to ratings. It's because those four countries (whoever they may be) threw the most money at the European Broadcasting Union to get the event off the ground. In return, their presence in the comp was guaranteed.

Loads of people here in the UK watch... for these reasons:

1. its tacky
2. its an excuse to laugh at foriegners (and our own pitiful entry)
3. excuse to spend a night on the booze.

it all good:D :D :D

I always laugh when it is suggested that the all the reality TV stuff is somehow new. Popstars / Pop Idol stuff is just Eurovision dressed-up a little. Eurovision is the original and best Reality TV and for mine the only one worth watching.

I just hope that they go back to singing in their native languages. It was much better when it featured Danish folk groups and Spanish rock bands. Now we get the same stuff from everyone, the whole lot of them could be from Manchester and we wouldn't know the difference.

1. TV is full of tacky stuff all year

2. We don't need an excuse to laugh at foreigners, the easiest to laugh at are actually Australians :)

3. You need an excuse to spend a night on the booze?
