Who would you want on your team?

Lloyd can kick goals and plenty of them.
Everitt can play in the ruck and can kick goals.

I would probably choose Everitt. I think he should be the captain of the saints. He has been terrific even thorugh the tough times when St.Kilda have been thrashed. I think Matt Lloyd is a brilliant player but Everitt is better because he can play in a couple of positions.

No contest, Lloyd every time. You're forgetting that not only can Lloyd play FF but he can also push up the field and play CHF if the ball isn;t getting down there.
Lloydy's probably got a few more years in him than Spider too :)

Lloyd is more consistent and if you watch the game Lloyd played chf and further back quite often. Everitt is a star and I'd have him as well (im greedy)

Good question, gee hard call. If you could have a team where you could leave Everitt in the goal square full time would make in interesting. I think I lean to Lloyd because of temprament.Less likely to do something stupid than Spider.

If the Saints let Spider go next season I would want him to come up to Sydney.

We at the Swans just have to stop kidding ourselves here I think. Lockett has been badly missed and no amount of talk about 'sharing the load' or 'opening up the forward line' is going to get away from the fact that, on a short ground like the SCg you need a big, strong, leading, FF charging straight up the middle.

It worked for us with Lockett and there is no reason it won't work for us again - with the right guy.

Spider - c'mon up !

As to who is better Hmmmm I don't honestly know because their strengths and weaknesses tend to cancel each other out.

Lloyd is younger and fitter but Everitt is stronger

Lloyd has a good leap but Everitt safer hands

Lloyd can play on a flank or CHF, but Everitt is a very good ruckman.

Lloyd is more accurate than Everitt, but Everitt uses the ball more effectively when not shooting for goal.

I would tend to favour Everett - just. His greater versatility around the ground just tips the scales in his favour.

Too hard a call for me!

It would be interesting to see how Spider would perform at the bombers and Lloydy at the saints.

Spider's injury in the 1997 finals series quite possibly cost us a premiership.

Their ages are important. Spider is only 26 which is not old by stretch of the imagination by Lloyd has his whole career in front of him and probably hasn't even peaked as a player yet.

Despite their differences, both are champions in their own right.

One important point you are missing is that despite Lloyd kicking goals consistanty he also gives away 3 or 4 goals a game as well

Angel,

Don't you think Roos has been missed at least as much as Lockett or Kelly ? He seemed to repel so many attacks when the game was in the balance. He played exceptionally well from '96 on but had some shockers before that - reflects the success of the team as a whole.

Absolutely Pess

Its impossible to overstate just what a loss Roos has been for us. None of our success of 96 and after would have been possible without his leadership and ability to read the play and set up devastating counter-attacks, usually with just one well-directed handpass.

In fact the "Flood the backline then all run up the ground together" (almost rugby style really) style that Rodney Eade unleashed on an unsuspecting opposition in 1996 was really all attributal to the running, hand skills and vision of Paul Roos.

And another thing - the situation was made even worse at the end of '98 when Roos retired because we lost Adam Heuskas as well. Now you guys can say what you like about this drag queen but he was very much in the mould of a Paul Roos in the way he performs a 'sweeping' role across the halfback line.

Out of all the players the Swans have traded away in the last few years I think there are only two that we really really miss. Heuskas is one and the other is Shannon Grant.

But back to Paul Roos - he was just absolutely sensational for us in 1996-98 and is badly missed.

With both players now in their twilight i think i would take Lloyd but Everitt has been a great servant of the Hawthorn FC
