I was surprised that we did not get rid of Heitinga. Perhaps he still has a role to play.

Good call, those early signings are starting to look a bit questionable. With Heitenga staying it puts Alcaraz in 4th spot for a CB role and Lukaku leaves Kone in a third selection place as well.

we have no option to buy Lukaku. We will be back in the same situation in less than a year.

Gee, Chelsea have some strikers though.
He might not fancy himself a chance to start for a while, and if that money gets free'd up in January and he enjoys it at Everton... you never know ;)
The eternal optimist though!

So I went to sleep at 6.30am, Felliani had handed in a transfer request, Big Vic was set for West Brom and all the potential deals looked off, Lukaku apparently prefered to go to West Brom, City were wanting to sell Barry not loan him, Whelan said the McCarthy deal wasn't looking likely and the Fernando was obviously off and it was starting to look like we were going to lose two players and not have time to bring anyone in.

When i woke up seeing we had signed Lukaku, Barry and McCarthy I was ecstatic, In just an hour and a half we managed to sell two players for a great price and sign three players who looked like their deals were off.

I know Lukaku is only on loan but man what a signing he has the potential to be, he scored 17 goals in his first season of regular football in England, he has the potential to score over 20 goals for us this season. Should fit into our style of Football very well, can play as a loan striker, holds the ball up well, quick and powerfull and most importantly he's a cynical finisher.

Barry is the the extra extra central midfielder we were in desperate need of, He's also still a very good player, I was reading the City fans talk about him on a City forum and they all really rated him as a player. Yes he adds that much needed depth but it's not like he's just a squad player, he still has a lot to offer on field.

I'm also very happy we finally signed James McCarthy, a really, really good player, I think people also forget that he's only 22 too. Should be able to slot in really easy, he knows Martinez well, apparently him and Coleman are really good mates, he would have played with Gibson and would obviously know Robles, Kone and Alcarez too so he shouldn't have any issues settling in. I know people say the reported 12m fee is to much yet everyone was willing to spend even more on Fernando, a player from the Portugese league with no international experience who most of us haven't even seen play before yet younger proven premier league player who we know works well with our manager and his tactics yet it's over paying for him.

As for the out going's I'd like to stat by thanking both Felli and Vic for everything they for the club. The fee's we got for both is absolutely fantastic business, I'm disappointed we didn't have the time to spend it but I would rather keep it that panic bid on someone at the last minute. We should have over 15m left over and I'm not stupid i know we're not going to be able to spend it all but if Martinez doesn't get to spend most of it in the next window I'll rage but that's a different topic for a different day.

Contained excitement for me.

Getting some good loanee's to hold over temporarily is nice, but I want to see who we splash the Fella' cash on in January.

Sure hope McCarthy was worth all this effort Bob.

Speaking of Lukaku he can't play our next game as it's against Chelsea, disappointing but seeing as he'll be away for the next week with the Belgium squad an extra week of getting used to things around here won't do him any harm.

You've got to give it to Felli, many fans (me included) thought when he would go he would kick up a stir, beg to leave ect when the big clubs started to circle but he handled him self very professionally and did the club a massive favor handing in his transfer request, saving us a few million. I'm really glad he did leave us on such good terms.

Haha, gone! 6 million for him too.
Could be a good player for WBA though.

Yeah I think he'll kill it there, they'll play through him all day and playing counter attacking football he'll get heaps of one on ones. Wouldn't be surprised if he kicked 11-13 goals for them.

Yup, he certainly suits their style of breaking away and counter attacking for goals.

My XI

Tim Howard
Seamus Coleman - Phill Jagielka - Sylvian Distin - Leighton Baines
James McCarthy - Darron Gibson
Kevin Mirallas - Ross Barkley - Steven Pienaar
Romeul Lukaku
Subs: Joel Robles - John Stones - Johny Heitinga - Gareth Barry - Leon Osman - Gerard Deulofeu - Arouna Kone
Line up defiantly looking stronger than at the end of the season, looking much younger too which is great because the age of the squad was a worry for a while there but it's defiantly not an issue anymore.
The starting XI is looking really strong as i said but i think our most improved area is defiantly our depth, we've got some pretty good players sitting on the bench and some pretty decent players who i couldn't even find a spot for on the bench.
