Shit thread.

Deledio can't handle a tag. Cotchin can, but didn't today.

One bull doesn't make a heard.
Nope. Good thread.

OP just highlighting the hypcrosy by a lot of posters.

If lids played a game like Cotchin did today half this board would be calling for his delisting.

Have you seen the Martin Contract thread?

Cotchin had one bad game via a tag. Deleido had about half a dozen in a row mid-season. Very spacious comparison... Chalk and cheese.

Cotchin nearly won a Browlow with half the opposition hanging off him in nearly every game last year.

Actually, while Cotchin was tagged last year he was fairly average and Deledio looked amazing. 2nd half of the year they turned their attention to Deledio, realising his disposal was far more damaging and then Cotchin started to look amazing. Hence why Lids got almost all his votes in first half of the year and Cotch got nearly all of his votes in the second.

Deledio hasn't handled the tag well at all this year but he still plays well most weeks. He stood up against Lions when everything turned to shit and he played like a vice captain should and helped us get that sealer goal.

It's true. People also have short memories with Lids - they bang on about him being inconsistent, and yet up to this year he had been by far our most consistent player for half a decade. He has also destroyed some taggers in previous years, particularly off the half-back flank.

Well today Martin and Cotch were tagged and both were arguably worse than anytime Deledio has been when tagged.
When it happens once and both players are believed to be carrying injuries it can be excused , the call on Lids not being able to handle a tag is due to it happening for the most part of his career . It is very very rare that Brett has a above average game when tagged .

What a crock of shit. Deledio's injured his knee this year, looked worse than Cotch's in the game against the Bombers. However a lot of people are able to give Cotch the 'injury' excuse but Lids is lambasted from pillar to post.
Deledio has been our #1 most consistent player since he won his 1st B&F 'til now.
Your memory must be really short. Deledio has had an opponent playing on him for a number of years now. And what has he produced? 2x B&F's, 3x AA squad nominee and finally won his much deserved AA placing last year. Not bad a for a guy who 'very very rarely has an above average game when tagged' and has been playing in a bottom side since debut only until this year. And still, even when he has been tagged, he hasn't performed like what the other two has. Ever.

Deledios played nearly 200 games....
How many has G.Ablett played? Has he been ordinary of late? Players go through form patches, they have sh*t games, they have taggers who are always hanging off them. So why attack Lids? For a guy who has been tagged heavily this year, his numbers stack up alright.

I'm not suggesting that experienced players cant have a few bad games when being tagged, but it's only fair we give Cotchin and Martin the same amount of time to see if they learn to shake a tag.

Irrelevant IMO, Lids should be playing as a wingman/forward. If they want to tag a wingman knock themselves out.

Martin also should be a half forward which tells me what we need most apart from a key forward, small forward is another genuine ruck rover to help Cotch and Conca /Foley etc on the inside particularly when Tuck will not be around forever

My memory is fine as is my ability to put pre conceived thoughts aside to make reasonable judgement .

Oh dear so much wrong...first of all Deledio although has been unfairly criticized had a long run of below average form, Cotchin has been in great form the past month and a half.

Deledio only got tagged by Crowley last year. R16 Cotch went head to head with Ablett (3 votes), R17 no one was tagged against North, R18 tagged by Carrazzo, R19 tagged by Raines, R20 tagged by Picken and gave him a royal bath, R21 Crowley tagged Lids, R22 tagged by Hocking to no avail (although Hocking did carry an injury), R23 he first got Cassisi and then got Cornes. He was just in that good form, he only went below 20 touches once in the whole year
