Name: Tony

Age: 39

Location: Just moved to Melbourne. Born in Adelaide, lived in the Barossa and just returned from 8 years living in London

Occupation: Wine Buyer

AFL Team: Port Adelaide

SANFL Team: Port Adelaide Magpies

Membership/Season Tickets: Victorian Member

Other Teams: Liverpool FC, Boston Celtics, Boston Redsocks

Footy/Club History in the family: My brother won the U17 B/F for the Barossa, Gawler League and then played U/19 for Centrals. He now helps coach their juniors. And my Grandfathers cousin was 2 time Magarey medallist Bob Hank.

Favourite Premiership and why: I'll narrow it down to two.

1994 v Torrens: I was sitting in the members with my relatives (including Bob Hank, who was Torrens No.1 ticket holder). Scott Hodges last quarter was awesome.

2004 v Brisbane: All the talk was of the Brisbane 4-peat, but three years of heartache was not to be denied that day. The best part about it was we beat a great team, not just one lucky to be there.

I hope to enjoy some banter on this site and maybe cross paths with a few of you in Melbourne.

Welcome on. From one Tony to another. You'll find that we're a happy, contented community, with a great sense of humour. We may disagree, vehemently from time to time but all is said and taken in the right spirit. You'll get lots of laughs and learn many things about our great club. Just don't expect to post on the Crows board without copping abuse, no matter how polite you are.

I never listen to, nor care for the opinion of Crows supporters. I'd say reading their comments on the Crows board would be akin to watching '2 Broke Girls'

DaTBird187, what exactly does a wine buyer do outside of the obvious? Genuinely curious.

It does sound like a holiday doesn't it.

It involves sourcing, tasting and analysis wines to be then chosen for the respective business you work for.

In London I worked for a luxury retailer that had a shop, three restaurants and a wine bar. I was part of a team that put together the wine lists for all of these parts of the business. It meant lots of trade tastings, trips to visit producers etc.

On the whole is is as fun as it sounds.

Welcome to Melbourne, sorry to be intrusive but where in Melbourne have you chosen to live (Ivanhoe East is where I have ended after a couple of moves around the city)? BTW how do you get into this wine tasting thing, seriously looking for something else to do.

Haven't decided on where we will be living yet, plenty of options. We are house sitting atm in Prahan, so getting to know the south.

I have been involved in wine for a while now. Grew up in the Barossa Valley, so it was a natural progression. Got serious about it when I realise I could make a living from something I enjoyed.

There are plenty of courses available to get you started. The Prince Wine Store is the Victorian branch of WSET (the industry standard courses). Maybe give them a shout.

Howdy everyone - long time reader, first time poster!

I am the first in what may well be a small wave of TPFP asylum seekers. My username over there was Tredrea5889, but I've gone for something different and more modern here.

It actually feels a bit strange to be posting here having read so much of this forum without actually participating over the years, but I'm looking forward to contributing something meaningful from time to time, as well as plenty of inane drivel that will no doubt go hand in hand with it. :thumbsu:

Where's my Mesut Ozil shirt? This is weird, really weird! Surely TPFP will be back or is this nightmare coming true?

Just gutted!

Welcome aboard Tredders. I look forward to you continuing to contribute the great quality stuff over here, like you did on TPFP for many years.

Sheesh wilbur15 is werner. I never picked it.

Mods we need lots of new beer smilies if wilbur15 is going to keep up his quality posting over here. The world cup is only months away and I know which poster to watch in the discussion threads.
