Saw earlier that somone wrote up on Burgeis... I think Miss Lucille has been cloned... what a cat! Though it's by Catbird enough said... just like the sire, the prodgeny are weak!

Did anyone know that Opter (by Redoute's Choice) is a half brother to Sacred Kingdom (by Encosta)... wouldn't the owners be spewing it didn't have half it's ability...

Thread fell off the first page!

How good a start has Exceed And Excel made? Wilander and Exceedingly Good head the betting for the Blue Diamond and several others near the top. I think he stood for $55,000 in his first year. If he keeps this up he'll hit 6 figures quick enough. Will he get 3 year olds and older types? His best year was as a 3 year old.

This outstanding stallion got the quinella in both the Blue Diamond lead ups on Sat! Any other ever done that? My money would be on no. Could be a freak. Keep in mind that while his books were very good, they will rival any stallions form now on.

Thats the scary thing isn't it, as good as his two year olds are now imagine the how good the ones will be in a couple of years, because surely anyone who has the right mare and is looking for two year old success will be after him for the next breeding season. Poor Hussonet has been quickly swamped as the boom sire in the country, although we might not have seen one as good as Weekend Hussler yet you have to be very confident E&E will have good 3 year old success.

Don't speak too soon.
Hussonet just continues to produce & his offspring may well continue out to a further distance range than Exceed & Excel.
Weekend Hussler wins a Guineas, & Reaan certainly appears to have the scope to push out to a mile as a 3 year old.

Great for racing to see the progression of these 2 stallions.

By no means was I saying Hussonet was no good, just saying that he had such a great period and then Exceed & Excel comes out and has a fantastic start. We were all talking about Lohnro before as well and if Minnesota Shark's ability and run in the diamond is anything to go by he might get up there. Not to mention others like Elvstroem and Savabeel who I'm excited about. Looks a good mix for the future of breeding, it excites me more than Redoute's, Flying Spur and Encosta's.

I have never liked a Catbird in my life, but I dont mind Burgeis. She is a swooper and has a decent turn of foot, rather than a speed squib who packs it in

Darley paid $750,000 for an Exceed And Excel colt yesterday. breaks the record at the Inglis Melbourne sale.

The only thing I'd caution you on is the trend of new sires dominating overseas and flopping here. End Sweep, Giant's Causeway, Invincible Spirit, Woodman etc All have won titles or gone very close to it overseas yet been very ordinary here. Statue Of Liberty is an extremely well bred Storm Cat. The Storm Cats have largely been disappointing here. Hennessey was pretty handy and Johannesburg (by Hennessey) has made a bright start. Not many others have made an impact here.

See Lonhro had his first 2 yo winner last Saturday. Out of the well bred mare Faith Hill. I'd love to see some mares that produced good horses sired by Zabeel given to Lonhro.

statue of liberty= 1st black type winner today in adelaide!! VERY IMPRESSIVE (elysees)

Wouldn't be allowed.
Lonhro is by Octy, Octy by Zabeel there for its too close to mix.
I think you can cross 4 or lines down.

You've misread him, he wants mares that have had success with Zabeel (ie Effiecient's dam) sent to Lohnro to see if he produces good horses with them, not a Lohnro/Zabeel cross.

Yeah master is right. I meant mares that have produced a good horse with Zabeel should be sent to Lonhro. Not Zabeel mares sent to Lonhro!

Interesting with the inbreeding question. From what I recall there are no rules. I know of Nureyev mares sent to Sadlers Wells who are 3/4 brothers. Most breeders refrain from mixing too closely as any genetic faults are more likely to come up due to a more shallow pool and duplicated undesirable traits or conformation problems. Thats the simple explanation. Interesting topic.

Well done to Elysees and Statue of Liberty. I was only reading about him on Sunday. Storm Cat blood is going to be vital here and just when we thought Danzig was going to saturate our breed here along comes Hussonet (Mr. Prospector line) Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) More Than Ready (Halo line) and hopefully Statue Of Liberty (Storm Cat) and Lonhro (Zabeel/Sir Tristram). Still some Northern Dancer there but different strains.

statue of liberty gets another winner today, this time at muswellbrook!! he is now creeping up the 2yr old section in leading 1st crop sires!! should of took the big odds on offer about SOL, when they came out!!

this horse that won today is called free dive, has now won 2 from 4, and carried 59.5kg to win today, did it easily, albeit weak opposition!!

Nothing wrong with a horse that sits on the speed.
They make their own luck.
I much prefer to back a horse on that sits on the speed than a swooper. Look at Gai Waterhouse's horses. All trained to sit up on the speed or lead. Very rarely will you see them come from the ruck.
