I reckon it's best to go into this movie without knowing anything about it, but to give a rough idea it's a bit like The Matrix on acid.

The grand concept is good, then the writer/directors, Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, deliver scene after scene of imaginative, weird and silly moments. But there's also a human theme to it - about family, acceptance of others, does anything really matter. The set design, digital effects, editing and soundtrack are all top quality.

The best movie I've seen this year.

9/10

I couldn't make it through it. It was too intense and hard to follow for me . Will give it another chance as I wasn't in the greatest mood that night.

They throw so much at you in quick succession it gets confusing. But the scenes are entertaining in themselves so I went along with it, while also being aware of the larger narrative from the filmmakers. They (mostly) deliver on that.

I think I’ll give it another go definitely. Now I know what to expect.

Absolutely loved the movie!

A wild ride of random crazy stuff and still managed to maintain a logical theme/story.

I don't often finish a film and say I loved it but I did with this.

Agree with OP, best to go in with zero expectations and info about it.

I honestly think it’s my favourite movie of all time. I can’t think of a single thing I didn’t love.

The missus told me going into it that it was a lot to follow. I never really felt that way; it was so immersive and funny and creative.

Everything that’s great about cinema in one bundle.

The tragedy is that pieces of generic, unloving rubbish like Jurassic World will smash this movie at the box office.

I didn’t realise that the husband was Short Round/the kid from the Goonies. He hadn’t acted for about 20 years or so. What a comeback!
I thought he looked familiar. He was brilliant in the role. I loved this movie, it was really well done, hilarious and touching.

Could easily be in an Indy movie now. Same energy as Short Round. He was great in this.

Yeah, nah, there was a pretentious hipster feel to the messaging and the randomness of the multiverse in this. Hot dog fingers, everything in a bagel, talking racoons. It looks superb given its small budget and team; it puts Marvel etc, to shame: I'd be looking to hire these people if I were them. Imagine what they could do working with a big studio. But it's like you're watching someone else's acid/DMT trip.
