Does anyone know if Neon has a son?:)

I think he does but still only a pup.

2016 draft and names like Daicos and Williams come to the fore I think.

Jeez what a world you live in where you are either excited or miserable. Sure there is nothing in between those that humans experience?
Oh I don't think I said that. I just suggested that it's ok to get excited about the future. You don't have to if you want to bitch and moan but that's not for everyone.
If you haven't got anything to look forward to in life what have you got?
But obviously we differ so I'm happy to move on.

Just watch some of the Kids Drafted in the last 3 Years in the VFL and you do get very excited about how good they and we can be

He may well do those things but they can all be explained by other reasons than him being soft. Seen him back into oncoming packs to often to question his courage or hardness.

What colour green?

As I said 'tad', I wouldn't call him completely soft just not hard at it as I'd like.

A credit too him in that he is trying to become "harder", that much is evident and if he keeps up his form/development then he will be a good consistent player for us.

To think that we can't get excited over watching the youth develop. Perplexing.

Those who can only get excited when we are legitimate premiership chances are going to spend the vast majority of their time miserable. We are only supposed to win one every 18 years based on the AFL's philosophy. (Unless you're a struggling state in which case it pushes us back to 20 plus years between flags).

If people choose to be excited by the youth playing, by De Goey showing good signs in the two's, by Moore coming black from injury down the track, by Sidey rejoining the 22, by Pendles backing up with another awesome game, by Nathan Brown holding a key forward after many wrote him off, by Shazza coming back from injury again, by Marsh's continued development from a spud who couldn't kick to a reliable player at his current level... Etc. More power to them. Better to be happy then continually disappointed and down unless we are top 4.
Life's too short.

Well said. It's funny you know, when I was growing up I had a mate in boarding school who used to go to the footy with me every week and in those years when we constantly made finals only to fall at the final hurdle, he had a great philosophy and it's something that has stuck with me until today. He always used to say when we would lose that you only need to look at most of the other teams' supporters to understand why it is so good to be a Pies supporter. Precious few of their teams actually win a lot of premierships anyway but with Collingwood, you got fantastic value for your dollar because if you went to the footy every week, most of the time you would see us win even if we didn't always cover ourselves in glory come September. I have always believed that this is one of the things that makes being a Pies supporter so good. We simply don't know the pain so many other supporters feel as their teams decay at the bottom of the ladder year in and year out.

On top of that, and I think it's such a pity for kids these days that they don't get to see it, we used to get there to watch the under 19's and the reserves before the main match. We watched players like Rene Kink and the like kicking the dew off the grass and always knew what was coming down the track. That's what following the footy was when I was a kid. I have to admit that these days it looks more like going to the supermarket to get the players you need rather than developing them as a club the way we used to. Anyway, that's how it is I guess but when I see the list we have it definitely excites me. There are no guarantees for sure but expectation can be a very exciting thing in footy.

Jeez, if the Daicos boys are even half as good [okay, 75%]

One of them is. He's lazy and doesn't get the hard ball but wow he oozes class. If he can work a little harder and win his own football he will be a very good player. Plenty of time to develop as he's 16 I believe.

The problem with our young kids.. many of them have broken down either during training or competitive matches. If we are going to ease them into the senior side perhaps their training regimes during pre season and right throughout the yr should be eased off as well. We must remember that 18-20 yr old kids are still developing their bone and muscle stregth. To push them the way we do is wrong. I wouldn't expect a De Goey to train as hard as a Sidebottom. Makes sense simple equation.. ease into seniors = ease into training. Don't push these kids until they're fully developed adults.

Story behind why I’m a Pies Supporter

My grandfather migrated from Greece in 1952 and settled here in Clifton Hill in 1952. A neighbour of his invited him to a game at Victoria Park. And he was immediately hooked. When I was a kid he used to take me to the games to watch the reserves and seniors. One thing I’ll never forget was the smell of the dirt surrounding Victoria Park and the sunburn I’d get from spending 5 hours out there in the outer. The atmosphere was like a brotherhood. The comments. People fighting over sherins flying out the back of the ground. The luke warm pies. The old score board.

My greatest memory was travelling by train home feeling like I was flying and that would remain with me for the rest of the day. It was somewhat of a spiritual experience. Win/loss there’s something magical about being a Collingwood supporter.

It would be interesting and uplifting to hear stories of the history of what made us all Pies supporters. Perhaps open a thread.

What made me a Pies supporter probably wouldn't bear reading to be honest since I was born to a family comprising an immigrant father and NSW mother with no interest in the game whatsoever. As a young kid I had very little interest which explains why my mother bought me a Melbourne footy jumper just so I looked like a Victorian. It still embarrasses me that I actually wore that horrible rag for a year when I was about 4ish. All that really matters is that as I became interested in the game, Collingwood was the team I was always going to follow and I loved my boarding school days only for the fact that I went to the footy nearly every weekend and often sat in the past players area. I'm so grateful that I chose the Pies because I probably would have been lost to the game had I actually supported a club like Melbourne or even more so had I supported South Melbourne or Fitzroy.

These are the stories that are great.

There ain't no shades of grey on our footy jumper :P

For me this teams current mix does not excite me and the skills overall are poo.

I feel like half the side are place holders till better talents come on, ie Degoey Moore Shaz Abbott etc.

Seedsman excites me.

Don't care if he gets caught 2 times out of 10. Better we can get some enjoyment from it.

Agree partly.. def need a replacement for White.. and I just can't seem to get my head around Frost. He plays reasonably well/good.. but long term if we settle on Frost as the answer this could pose a problem. I just think he backs out at times.. no real pro active forward thrusts.. he does go for the occassional burst.. but it's nothing he's created. I hope we don't get complacement in regards to potential players we can pick up in trade or in the draft that can replace him. Prob makes me unpopular on here but I'm after better.

Frost has potential but I don't think he can play on the 5-6 "gorilla-type" forwards in the AFL. That's what we need Brown for.

I think he has left his man to make spoils to great effect this season, certainly his judgment has improved to the point where it is at an acceptable level considering his age and experience.

Do you think he'll ever give us more than a discplined type of role.. If he does.. then yes I would love him out there.. but I haen't really seen much more than what you mentioned. Might be a worry down the track for so many reasons.

We have no other options. Aside from that, I think that Toovey has a similar level of "ball-in-hand" quality about him and he has made the position his own. There is space for Frost to do the same imo even if I think he has slightly better footskills than Toovey.

I have studied this image a lot over the years. Love seeing Tuddy front and centre, looming dangerously over the Carlton player (who is it?).

But my main reason for going back to this image is the view of the 1958 Social Club building in the background, in its original form before the Bob Rose Stand section was added to the front in the 1980s.

The Social Club was designed by Peter McIntyre, a famous Modernist architect in Melbourne (I work with his daughter). In its original form it was a
well resolved Modernist building, with the 'butterfly' awning over the front bay, the fabulous black and white panels, the corner 'tower' with the magpie. I even have affection for the 'DUNLOP' sign! The elevation facing the railway was also beautifully detailed. It was good architecture. Sadly, the Bobby Rose Stand alteration ruined it.

If this image dates from the late 1960s, I was probably in the crowd too. Loved Tuddy.

Tuddy was one tough bugger.
