How can we expect to win when supporters make excuses?

I recently read "NMFC is an indoor football team". Just a shame most finals are outdoors.

What are finals I have forgotten

We won every stat, except on the scoreboard.
We fought it out, whereas last year we would've folded like a house of cards.
We just ran out of legs.
We're in a heavy training block atm.
Sheezel is better than N Daicos
Will Phil is coming from a long way back.
We're an indoor footy team.
The Covid years set us back at the draft table.

• You need to understand that Team X have played for together longer.
• You need to understand that Team X already had a system in place which has fast tracked their rebuild.
• I predicted that we would be no good for years after culling the list in 2020.
• Our senior types keep on letting us down.

Let me contribute the following. I think excuses for last night are:

1. If we had kicked straight we would have won that.
2. The umpires cost us (even though we ended up winning the free kick count
3. The heat/cold/wind/no roof/rain/bright sun really hindered us. (they are more accustomed to the conditions. Its hotter out at Footscray because that's the centre of Melbourne's contribution to global warming.)
4. You can’t expect over night success.
5. Take out the first quarter and we win that game.
6. They jumped us!

And one you missed. "We lost it at the selection table." (No idea who else should have been in but surely that's an excuse.)

It would have glossed over some of the game plan issues but that's not that wide of the mark.

Just thought I would make it was easier for those making excuses for this lot

When we lose please reference this thread and use one of the below

At the end of the season I’ll be giving out a two prizes, one for whoever uses the most original excuse and one for who uses the most laughable

• (Insert team) were primed, they had to win this
• If we kick straight we win that
• The umpires cost us that game
• We were trying some stuff it’s only round (insert round here)
• It will be different next time we play them, look how much we lost by last time, this was much better
• The heat/cold/wind/no roof/rain/bright sun really hindered us
• We don't lose this game if its played at Marvel/Hobart
• Team needs more time to gel together
• Rebuilds take time
• It’s really only Clarkos first year if you think about it
• The (team we lost to) are in the hunt for a flag, we can’t compare
• Injuries cost us
• A lot to like and plenty to learn, this loss will keep us in good stead
• You can’t expect over night success
• I hear a bug/flu/covid/syphillis went through the team during the week
• Take out the first/second/third/fourth quarter and we win that game
• They jumped us!
• Lost it at the selection table!
• Teams seem to always kick lucky goals against us
• We need to pump 50 games into these kids.
• We won’t gel as a team until after the bye.
• You need to understand that Team X have played for together longer.
• You need to understand that Team X already had a system in place which has fast tracked their rebuild.

• We're still paying for what [choose from Scott, Joyce, Luff, Sitbbard, Joseph] did to the list
• The father son rule has killed us
• Hawthorn struggled in Clarko’s first 2 years
• We won the midfield battled just lacked a bit of polish
• We were a bit rusty being round x/Its late in the season guys are tired

Feel free to add more and I’ll update this resource throughout the year

All of the above just in the first quarter, then I just had my head in my hands

Sad thing is, the club and a lot of its naive supporters, accept these excuses.

1st Q was diabolical, esp after a long preseason dedicated to that moment ffs

We won the midfield battle somehow. That to me is probably the big takeaway. Without some stars and without any particular structure, there were patches where we blew them apart in there, with a bunch of kids. We are building a team that you are gonna need to be switched on just to go with us. Dogs came to play. And took their opportunities well.

I'm happy we lost by a smallish margin as a big defeat would have me feeling you're correct.

We might be garbage for another few years but at the moment, this garbage has:
1. Wardlaw,
2. Eventually Duursma,
3. a fitter Simpkin who was real good I thought (in patches) in the guts.
4. WDawson
5. MWhitlock
6. BGeorge
7. CHarvey (the lazy little member has some talent)
8. A McCartney.

Still to come, I think.

Like **** (I get I'm deluded) and we will need some luck but, I'm convinced enough after that effort we're heading in the right direction.

212 posters were convinced “we were heading in the right direction” in 2020.

How can you be convinced? You can hope we are. But no sane supporter could be convinced we are heading in the right direction. That conviction would be based purely on hope.

It's a statement of fact.

I'm certainly not the most positive fan, but I am happy to point out some positives and provide a semblance of balance from my Bayside Bubble.

We couldn't lose that game by 5-6 goals, but 3? With Sheez, McKercher and Parker playing ordinary games and no Duursma or Wardlaw or W Dawson or Goater or Hardeman? We still have upside IMO.
