It's only a preseason match but I can see no reasonable excuse for the performance we have put in against Port today. 91 points down in our own backyard at 3 quarter time.

We have no reason to go through the motions as our positions and game plan is not set. We are only doing further damage to our membership prospects by making it appear that we are in for weekly floggings this season.

We either have some major application problems at the club, or we truly are one of the worst sides in history.

I won't be smiling at any audas finals forecasts from here on in.

Disgraceful.

It's only a pre season practice match so you need to know what Pagan is trying to do with his players before taking too much out of it.
Also the Port side out there is vastly different to last week's in terms of height when we had to use Shaun Burgoyne as a KPP in the backline and were one KPP short up front. This week we have all the ones from last week plus 4 more.
Personally I think the scoreline is irrelevant for both teams.

It's application problems without a doubt. I mean, 91 points to Port Adelaide.

Let's maintain some perspective though. Worst case scenario:
  • We finish last
  • Earn a priority pick
  • Have picks 1 and 2 in the draft
  • And lastly, we get a new coach with freash ideas. :)

If we have an abysmal year, it'll be the last. Of that I'm sure.

The real negative is the impact it'll have on memberships and sponsers. Like we don't have enough problems ATM.

Thanks god i didn't go today.
91 points down at 3 qtr time against a team that i think will struggle to win more than 8 games probably 10 at best.
I know it only a practice match but the real stuff starts in 4 weeks and you would be wanting to implement some sort of game plan or strategy that will hopefully bring some success when the real stuff starts.
Oh well.

Actually we have a fair chance of finishing very highly this year.

  • Nope. It's all been changed starting from this year.

I'm very quickly running out of them...on every level concerning the Carlton FC.

Although tolerant and supportive of Pagan though the draft penalties, he's had enough time to structure a comptative team and this year will be his defining season for me.

Same goes for the board? No more Elliot blaming...show me results.

I've got a good excuse!

How's this: Our boys lack experience when it comes to practice matches. ;) :thumbsu:

What do you think? Valid?

Nah, nothing to do with today.
We'll either be a show this year, and that will also mean for the next few, OR if the one or two players expected to start playing (only) consistently average football for that to happen are unable to deliver, then we will be crap for a few more years to come.
If that makes sense. Perhaps one needs to follow us closely to understand what I am trying to say.

Whoops, forgot you only won 4 games last year.

How are your youngsters coming along?

What is going on? Has Pagan lost the players? There is nothing but negatives coming out of the club at the moment. I can see some major upheavals at the end of this season (if not sooner), if things don't start turning around soon. Is it any wonder we can't attract a ball or coach's sponsor at the moment?

We need to see some positive news coming from the club, soon, or else something is going to give. Certainly, I have my doubts as to whether Pagan will see out his current 3 year contract and I think the board could be in trouble as well. A couple of good wins, against the odds, might change all this, but if it doesn't happen, watch out for the fur to start flying.

Players had no confidence.

Waite and Fev aren't fit yet; both couldn't string together many leads up the ground unlike Fisher who presented well.

Hartlett didn't get outmarked once......doesn't panic and had a bit of composure. T-Birds confidence is shot.........skills were pathetic and just isn't sure of what to do with it. Murphy showed his poise and class a few times. Walker also got quite a bit of it but was probably beaten by Motlop. Should not be playing on the backline. Simmo showed dash as well. Scotland's kicking was woeful, Stevens showed his skill at times, Bentick was ok out of the middle and Russell did a few nice things but also made a few errors

Carrots played for the Bullants, had 42 possessions and kicked 5

Word is that Kennedy is likely to play in the last practice match

Not too many positives today and we simply don't have the talent. Whoever the moron was that started the thread Port for the spoon should be given a temporary suspension.

We were slower than Port, had poor skill across the board, have no genuine KPP(ATM), crabs like Houlihan or players like Scotland who over-rate their skill by foot. How much can be put down to Pagan is the question and there isn't a harder coaching job in the world, other than coaching Ellen DeGeneres onto a man.

It says everything about how much talent we have if we expect picks from 70 onwards in Houla and Fisher and a rookie like Bentick to lead us out of the wilderness. We need Ball, Judd, Goddard, Wells, etc to do that and I don't believe any other coach would be coaching better with what Denis inherited.

Murphy looks the goods and directed Fisher where to run at one point by putting the ball in the right spot. Then he did it again. :) Russell and Bower looked like they'll be good players for the club, but Waite and Fevola are on a hiding to nothing the way with our forward line.

I don't think I've ever seen Fevola take a screamer and marking overhead in a pack is still his biggest weakness. Lance went forward to kick a goal but it was only on Carlile not a gun key defender, I'm starting to dislike Tbird and he even poleaxed Lance at one stage. Livingston should be played because we're robbing Peter to pay Paul with Tbird at fullback.

No talk, no running to support their teammates by shepherding when he got the ball and the Power players were just putting on a training drill today.

When was the last time a side won back to back spoons?

4 wins if we're going to bottom out again! Please! ;) :(

Demetriou should be shot for changing that PP rule because we need talent more than any other side with Kouta, French and Lappin all ageing players. And so called Carlton supporters have the temerity to say Elliott wouldn't have let Demetriou hit us on Black Friday. That **************** with Parkin and Brittain are responsible for this situation not Denis.

That's my knee jerk post.

I have to agree mediumsizered, we are disintegrating at a rate of knots. I am not usually one of those negative types but you can't keep getting bashed about the head with the stark reality without letting some of it in now and then. The overly positive posters start of the year with plenty of hope and good cheer, then they adjust as it turns sour concentrating on the reasons for the losing.

I allowed the 3 years to start moving up again after the penalties and the list turnover, but we have high draft picks and good players failing to perform. Either we choose wrong all the time at the draft despite picking players that are rated by other clubs as well or we have good players that can not or will not perform in such a poor side. I really wish they were all moving in the same direction.

Tell that to Pafloyul.

I can't blame Motlop for perhaps beating Walker with the way the ball came in all day.

We can't get a PP at the next draft as we won 4.5 games last season. Its two seasons in a row of 4 games or less, not a total of less than 8 games unfortunately.

The concern isn't how many priority picks we can continue to get, the concern is how the draft picks we do have fail to develop as fast as those at most other clubs and how they don't seem to fit into an underperforming side.

We need some Carlton people back at the club to inspire passion, not being assistants or runners everywhere else.

Whatever Pagan is doing, he needs to change it. Instead of pushing Walker back into defence, give him a game to run wherever he damn well pleases and take as many chances as he likes. That is what he did in his debut. West Coast in Alice Springs next week (of all places), I'd like to see Denis not even board the flight and just tell the players and the assistants to have a go themselves. If Denis is the problem, they will all be anxious to highlight that and give a good account of themselves. We might get thrashed again but what is the difference? The players are not enjoying their footy and my fear is we will lose our only decent youngsters because they don't want to play for a bunch of losers.

We can get a PP pick after round one if we win less than 22 points this year. But we can make a submission for special assistance from the AFL via draft picks if we're that bad.

That's a better decision than accessing the CBF.

Now why didn't I think of that? ;)

Guys I think you are over-reacting . . . Port were stung by the criticism they received in Adelaide last week, it was pretty fierce. They were always going to come out and try and put on a solid performance. Your boys probably expected to be playing in Cairns this week, so it's understandable on a hot day they may have been on a downer.

I wouldn't read too much into it, but I guess I always thought the team would struggle this year.

Disappointing day for the club given the wider activities at Princes Park.
