Unsolved Execution Murder of Jill Dando - BBC's star journalist & Crimewatch presenter

The golden girl of the BBC was returning home when she reached the door of her home in Fulham on April 26, 1999.

But before Jill could get her keys in the door, she was shot once in the head with a 9mm bullet.

There was no sign of a struggle and the killing was said to have taken place at close range at 11.30am - broad daylight.

The execution style of the shooting led to speculation that Jill Dando was the victim of a professional hit. A silencer was thought to have been used as neighbours did not hear the gun firing.

Aged just 37 years old and engaged at the time, Jill was in the prime of her career - a household name.

But she worked often as an investigative journalist and on the television show Crimewatch, which meant she may have made enemies.

Detectives believe the killer had "staked" out her home for at least an hour before the shooting and there were said to be seven sightings of "a smartly dressed man carrying a mobile phone - who might have donned heavy black-framed spectacles in an attempt to disguise himself" outside her £400,000 two-storey home.

Jill's body was discovered by a neighbour 14 minutes after she had been shot. She was taken to Charing Cross Hospital and announced dead on arrival just after 1pm.

Barry George, with a low IQ and known to be a bit creepy around women was charged with Jill's murder and convicted at the Old Bailey. The conviction was overturned on appeal and he was declared 'not guilty' at a second trial.

The case is still open.

A few theories, given what we know of the BBC's Jimmy Savile and Stuart Hall to mention just two paedophiles, this one is interesting.

In 2014 a former colleague came forward and said Jill was trying to expose a VIP paedophile ring just months before her death.

The source said Jill raised concerns to her BBC bosses about allegations of sexual abuse at the BBC.

The source told the Daily Star Sunday: "I don't recall the names of all the stars now and don't want to implicate anyone, but Jill said they were surprisingly big names.

"I think she was quite shocked when told about images of children and that information on how to join this horrible paedophile ring was freely available.

"Jill said others had complained to her about sexual matters and that some female workmates also claimed they had been groped or assaulted."

This world is ****ed.
No one cares, they continue to get away with abusing kids.
She was not murdered for no reason.

If this can happen to someone with the profile of Jill Dando in the middle of London, unresolved so many years later and we all know she was about speaking truth to power, what hope has anybody else got.

The message was, we don't care who you are. You are nothing. Shut up.

Where would Barry George get a 9mm hand gun with a silencer in the UK?

He didn't. Whoever shot Jill Dando knew they'd killed her with one bullet. It was a cold execution.

Lloyd Rayney. Trial someone for the crime, the establishment can fit anybody up for it whether found guilty or not it doesn't matter. The public is fooled and time has passed.

She was whacked because she was going to uncover pedos in 'society'.

I was told of an independent investigative journalist in Melbourne who was investigating pedo rings. He was severely beaten and told that if he continued his activities he'd be killed. I don't recall his name.

Sadly that's what happens in the real world.

Interesting.

Jill Dando's killer may have mistaken her for another BBC journalist who was the real target of an assassination plot, astonishing documents submitted to a Paris court suggest.

A French fashion mogul accused of multiple counts of sexual assault hired a Russian hitman to murder presenter Lisa Brinkworth after she went undercover to expose his agency, according to extraordinary claims in the papers.

The assassin may have mistaken Miss Dando for the real target given striking similarities in their appearance and occupation, as well as the fact that they lived in the same part of London, lawyers argue.

The lawyers also note that Miss Dando's fiance, Alan Farthing, was Miss Brinkworth's doctor

'In 2014, an anonymous source who is believed to have worked with Miss Dando revealed she was trying to expose a VIP paedophile ring just months before her death

The friend reportedly told the Daily Express: 'I don't recall the names of all the stars now and don't want to implicate anyone, but Jill said they were surprisingly big names.'

No evidence has been brought forward to substantiate the claim Miss Dando was killed to stop the abuse coming to light.'

Wouldn't be surprised if they used Dando's murder to scare ppl off investigation VIP pedo's by attempting to link her death with her investigating VIP pedo's, so that people who were actually investigating VIP pedo's (past, present, or future) just STFU.

There's a link to Epstein.

Brinkworth encountered Marie in 1998, when she was posing as a model for a report on the US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was facing multiple charges of sex trafficking of minors before his 2019 suicide.

She was also investigating Jean-Luc Brunel, a French modelling agent and associate of Epstein, who was charged with rape of minors over 15 as well as harassment last December.

Just watched the Netflix series on the murder. They do step through the possible theories.
Barry George still seems the best fit for the crime. Him retracing his steps shortly after the murder is worrying. Asking a witness if they had seen him in the area. My thoughts have George confronting Jill in the view to assaulting her and the weapon has discharged by mistake. It appears to me as a sexually motivated crime, given George's form.

Out of the UK, a security guard alleged to have hired a hitman to kidnap and murder high profile presenter Holly Willoughby.

Gavin Plumb, a shopping centre security officer, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court, about 65 kilometres east of London, where he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and workplace.

He is charged with soliciting a man named David Nelson to commit murder, and incitement to commit a kidnapping between October 2 and 5 in Harlow, Essex.

Mr Nelson was due to arrive in the UK next week from the US, the court heard.
