For a club that lags behind the AFL elite in so many areas and has for some time, a CEO whose only footy experience is with us is pretty disappointing.

You would hope we approached others from around the league - we either didn't, or couldn't get anybody, neither of which are great outcomes.

The whole thing just says that nobody wanted the job.

Spot on. Since 2020 we've had:
  • 3 Coaches
  • 3 Presidents
  • 4 CEOs

It's not like we're seeing a lot of good internal operators leave us for other clubs to take on more senior roles. Plus, we've had countless board issues, poor on-field performance, and our captain tried to leave 3 months ago.

We're hardly a picture of stability that is going to lure good candidates to join us, unfortunately. This also doesn't mean that Roberts will be no good either TBH.

At least it will be a seamless transition, and he is on the same page as the president. If they keep doing what they have been doing recently then I would not care if Kermit the Frog was appointed CEO.

Exactly!

What about that guy from Carlolton who sent the dick piic?

I think before everyone loses their minds about this we need to remember that the timing of Vozzo’s resignation meant we could only choose from Essendon board members for the role

As VP we basically had him minted as our next President after Welsh right? So basically a seat-warmer while we finish the transition Vozzo started, then goes back to being a board member when the boat is steady.
There is 0 chance he goes back to being a board member.

Vozzo is staying on board as a consultant in the list management space.

Why did we need an outside CEO?
Not like Roberts is a business dud and knows nothing about the course we are on.

I knew what you meant.
I know you did

It just seems like a pretty unserious attempt at locating the best possible person to lead the club when it turns out the best possible person to lead the club was sitting on the board under everyone's nose.

Maybe he'll be good, hopefully he's on a similar page to Vozzo who (from the outside at least) seemed to have a pretty good read on where we were at as a club and a list. If he is then that's not such a bad thing as getting in someone from outside who wants to chuck all the toys out of the cot again would be counterproductive.

I think right now it is a good thing. We do not need a CEO who needs to be brought up to speed.
So, the search was a bit underwhelming as far as public knowledge goes and where it ended up but we still ended up with a bloke who has serious business credentials.
With Vozzo staying on in a reduced role as far as list management goes the plan does not really change. Roberts is aligned with Walsh. He knows exactly what we are working to achieve and where we are at.
Personally, I do not think we needed a shiny new toy. We need someone who is going to stay the course.
