First up, looks like there's a couple of Cats fans in the league - enjoy the victory, a well deserved premiership.
As for me, well, I found that drinking couldn't quite erase the memory of the match...the hangover's finally gone, but the disappointment from yesterday's result still lingers...so what better way to get my mind off the Grand Final then to do a quick summary of the first 2 rounds!
Admittedly, I haven't done much research leading up to the draft so my opinions might be as hollow as a Don Monson 36ers team.
Theseventhhamster - 1. Kevin Garnett & 24. Caron Butler
There doesn't seem to be a clear cut #1 pick this season (not in my eyes anyway), so why not go for the guy who produces fantastic numbers year in year out? Despite a probable (albeit slight) dip in points and assists, Garnett is still a justifiable top pick.
Butler is coming off a career season and chances are he'll keep it going. Pairing him with Garnett means a solid base in %'s, rebs, assists & steals. Nice pick.
sirjames - 2. Shawn Marion & 23. Ray Allen
Marion is probably the closest thing to a consensus #1 pick. I don't think his displeasure with the Suns organisation will affect his numbers - he'll eventually come around and continue to put up great all-round numbers for Phoenix (if he knows what's best for him, that is).
The main concern with Allen is his ankles. Chances are they'll eventually cause him enough pain to reduce his effectiveness to some degree. Not sure how many more 3's per game Allen can hit, but expect to see a bump in fg%. Interesting to see how sirjames builds around these 2.
voodoo_86 - 3. Kobe Bryant & 22. Traded to Kenny_01
The most dangerous player in H2H basketball (not too mention basketball in general) IMO. Will have an amazing week every so often where he'll score huge amounts efficiently while hitting a lot of threes. No need to worry about the trade rumours (all talk) or his non-scoring numbers. Once again he'll still have to carry the load for the Lakers.
With no 2nd rounder, picks 33 and 40 will be particularly important for voodoo.
morpheus - 4. LeBron James & 21. Paul Pierce
Last season LeBron was virtually everyone's #1, so what happened? Well, he stopped improving stats-wise. In fact he took a step backwards. Rebounds went down. Assists went down. Scoring went down. ft% was awful. Still, the numbers he did produce (besides the ft%) were still outstanding. I think once LeBron settles into a good free throw routine, he'll be an 80% shooter from the line. That means he'll be back to being the #1 man in fantasy. It probably won't happen this season, but he'll still give morpheus good value for a #4 pick.
Which of Boston's 3 stars will sacrifice the most for the betterment of the team? Interestingly, Garnett, Allen & Pierce all averaged over 4 assists per game but there's a chance not one of them will reach that mark this season. It's also hard to say who will end up leading the Celtics in scoring. Would Allen have been a better fit with LeBron on the team? We'll see how it plays out during the season.
Hodges - 5. Gilbert Arenas & 20. Rashard Lewis
Taking Arenas at 5 might raise a few eyebrows given that Nowitzki is a perennial top-5 pick, but how can you not like the Hibachi? The fact that Gilbert's "Takeover" season ended in injury could be good news for Hodges - he'll have a chip on his shoulder so expect some more big numbers. fg% is a worry so Arenas should practice what he preaches and take more "quality shots".
So many SG/SF options in the 2nd round and Lewis may be the most underrated of all of them (fantasy wise, not contract wise). Along with Arenas, Lewis gives Hodges a comfortable leading pair particularly in 3's & ft%. A good pick over the higher profiled players like Pierce & Allen.
MightySaint - 6. Dirk Nowitzki & 19. Vince Carter
Dallas' reliance on Nowitzki has changed in recent years and so his numbers dipped ever so slightly in some areas (pts, 3's, rebs, stls, blks) but reached career highs in others (fg%, assists). This was a no-brainer pick for MightySaint.
Carter continues to put up great numbers as well so no issues with that pick either - hard to choose between all the SG/SF options I guess, but playing with Jason Kidd always helps .
Falchoon - 7. Steve Nash & 18. Marcus Camby
2 unique players for Falchoon gives him a headstart in fg%, assists & blocks. All areas (except pts) are covered and these 2 selections make it easier to build a versatile team around. Is Camby a reach at 18? Maybe, but he pairs up well with Nash and Falchoon will be laughing when Camby outblocks the entire opposing team. Of course there's the injury concerns with these players but the risk is probably worth it. A strong first 2 picks I'd say.
DBAH0 - 8. Yao Ming 17. & Andre Iguodala
And the first C is off the board. Yao is everything you want in a big man - good fg%, rebound and block numbers, and then there's the bonus of his ft%. Plus he outscored McGrady last season.
This all makes Yao a good fantasy player to build around and with Iguodala, DBAH0 has gotten another versatile talent. What a season he had after Iverson left, and you know there's gonna be further improvement ahead (expect over 20ppg). The assists were a real surprise last season. Like Yao, the t/o's were way too high, but that's not an issue when the returns are so good in the other categories.
Kenny_01 - 9. Amare Stoudemire 16., Josh Smith & 23. Gerald Wallace
Stoudemire was the comeback king and the numbers should keep going up this season (would not be surprised to see his scoring average in the high 20's).
Smith and Wallace are very similar players. In real life, having these guys on the same team wouldn't be ideal, but in fantasy their similarities are nothing but a plus as far as Kenny is concerned. This team is already looking tough to beat in blocks and steals.
GeeCat - 10. Dwayne Wade & 14. Chris Bosh
Wade slipped, and slipped...and slipped some more, till GeeCat finally took the bait at pick 10. We all know Wade has had shoulder & knee surgeries but what's worrying is there hasn't been any recent updates as to how his rehab is going. So we're probably thinking, say, miss the first 2 weeks of the season plus another couple of months to get up to full speed and strength. Sounds bad right?...The thing is though, the league is won in the playoffs, not the first few months - so if Wade does eventually reach full health (and hence the numbers of the last couple years), then I'm thinking this could be the steal of the 1st round.
The Raps fan got his man in round 2. Bosh is solid in most areas and has the valuable C eligibility. Apparently he played with plantar fasciitis (the osteitis pubis of basketball) through a large part of last season, so I'm not as concerned about his foot problems as most others.
hans moleman - 11. Pau Gasol & 15. Chris Paul
Pairing Bosh with Gasol would've been nice, but adding Paul probably gives me a few more options when drafting in the next couple of rounds.
Borgsta - 12. Jason Kidd & 13. Tim Duncan
Ah, the old reliables...there's life in these guys yet, so I wouldn't expect any dropoff at all in their numbers. Practically all areas are covered and like Falchoon, picking a PG and C early could lead to less stress when picking in the upcoming rounds. Solid choices.

I'm not in the league, but the other league drafted has halted. Your comments on the top players were very insightful indeed though.
I disagree with Gilbert Arenas assessment though. In H2H, he is in my opinion, the #4 player. His FG% I believe won't go any lower. Behind Bryant, arguably the most scary player who can single handedly just flat-out dominate a few categories. Points, FG%, FT%, 3PTM, steals.
Worst pick so far is Okafor. An injury concern, but I guess sometimes if you want a player and have back-end picks, reaching is necessary. And I'm always skeptical about Camby. He is top 5 when playing, but his injury concerns are constant, especially with no IL.
Best pairing I think is Paul-Gasol. Very good base to build off. Also, anyone who has Marion. Wallace-Smith a very good tandem although FT% may be shot with the amount of attempts they take.

Pau/Paul is the best combo so far. I wanted Paul at 19 but always a bit optimistic.

Improved lots in year 2. I think he is headed to a 19/9 with good % season. TOs could be better though.
