Prediction Expectation for 2023

With round 1 upon us, what are your expectations for the Fremantle Dockers in the 2023 AFL season?

Realistically I think barring an extreme event we finish 5-10. I can't see us cracking the top-4 this year but barring multiple injuries or serious deficiency we should absolutely be making finals.

Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane and Sydney on paper are significantly better and more experienced than us. We're in the bracket with Collingwood, Bulldogs and maybe Carlton/Richmond.

Nothing surprising, I think everyone is on the same page. Should be playing finals but maybe not yet genuine premiership contender, with scoring power the big question.

Dunno about all these pundits pegging us as 8-9 in their ladders. I think Richmond a good candidate to fade and the pies a good candidate to not replicate last year. Carlton and Dogs might be better than last year.

Highest expectations are 16-17 wins, i.e. top 4. Lowest are 12-13 wins, i.e. 7 or 8. Bring it on!

I think this is the first year of our window.

It’ll be super competitive, and Freo need a few young players to grow, but anything less than top 4 and I’ll be disappointed.

Especially considering we showed we can beat the top sides last year.

Top 6. If by the halfway point of the year out forward line is producing and we are in with a decent shot of top 4 then I would say top 4. The problem I have is I hold no faith in our team kicking straight and fully expect to lose a game or 2 we shouldn't because our goal kicking is shit.

I said Top 4 because we were 'Carlton shitting the bed' away from it last season and I feel that we're better placed this season.

I can taste finals.

I think the goal from the club is clearly top 4. But it'll be a log jam. Geelong won't go away, neither will Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane. Carlton will still be thereabouts if they can get their first choice side on the park and Vossy can learn to coach. Can see Richmond improving and Not sure what Collingwood will do.
Realistically anywhere from 4-8th is a pass mark for me.
Anything higher is a plus and lower is a negative.
A lot riding on Jackson/Fyfe's shoulders plus improvement from Treacy/Amiss and with any luck Tabs staying on the park (just to lead to the pockets and take his defender away from the other blokes.....................
Our final place on the ladder will be forward line dependant (Freo things etc).
Hopefully natural midfield improvement and forward/mid connection will improve the forward line as a whole, not having a 200cm crustacean demanding the ball be bombed long on his head will be an improvement IMHO.
Also the Western Bullies won't be anyone's easy beats

I agree with some that this is the beginning of our window. Barring major injuries, I don't see us dropping out of the top 6. I'm really hoping for top 4, but honestly once you're in the finals, anything can happen. I also think the finals experience last year will be huge for our young team and should give them some confidence no matter where they play and no matter how far down they are in a game. I feel like our window will be well and truly open next season, so I'm not expecting greatness quite yet.

But, saying that, here are some of my other hot take predictions:

• Cox makes AA this year (not just the squad)
• Fyfe kicks more goals this year than Rory "the sook" Lobb did last year (which will probably due to good coaching since Lobb clearly wasn't coached well last season despite kicking the most goals of his career. )
• Brayshaw wins the Brownlow. He's gonna be on everyone's radar after winning an MVP. He'll have some competition but I think Darcy and Jacko are gonna feed it down his throat and his clearance/disposal numbers will be unreal.

I just take it as further confirmation of his Vic bias and lack of knowledge on any team outside,having 6 out of the top 8 coming from Victoria.

We have to play Bulldogs, Geelong, Richmond, Carlton, Sydney, Brisbane at Optus. Gong to be tough. We also have Collingwood and Geelong away in between the Car-Syd-Bri home games. That 5 week stretch could unravel our season if we haven't banked 5-1 or 6-0 from the start.

As much as King is a moron, I won't be surprised if we miss the 8. I have us around 6-8, but it won't be easy as there are the 8 from last year, plus Carlton and Port. Might also be another bolter.

Our age profile last year was similar to Hawthorn in 2008 when they fluked a flag when Geelong were the dominant side. Then they finished 9th, 7th, 3rd, minor premiers (lost GF), 3-peat. I see us following a similar pattern. Just inside or outside the 8 for 2 years, then into the top 2/4 for 3-4 years of genuine contention.

I mean, that may be an unrealistic expectation - just as I expect to win the lotto when I play but invariably don't (!)....however, I keep that dream alive baby!!

I am expecting it will happen in 2023, it doesn't mean it will...

But if you have expectations, may as well aim them as high as you can. If you're gonna dream, dream big....dare yourselves
