Expectations for 2009

55 votes from Carlton supporters ... 2 expecting a flag in 2009. That's less than 4%
17% expect a top 4 finish.

Approx 77% expect a final appearance but in the lower reaches of the top 8. There is our majority. Now after a 10 win season, with last year's youngest list another year older, and Judd back to full fitness, does this qualify as talking yourself up or expectation of natural progression?

I'll ask opposition supporters not to post in this poll just to be smart. The question wasn't asked of you and I may consider it trolling for you to participate. I will discount your votes of course but you are just creating work for me.

Might be a idea to post this in your original post ODN, as you asked you want to know what the carlton faithful think not what people like biff and other people from the bay think.

No it doesnt, but it proves that the opposition are worried about us.

I say just 8th, will be very pleased if this is achieved! Im only expecting this 8th, because, the're a few more up and coming teams like us. They just might slip ahead of us, and we just might slip ahead of them.

WTF is happening to us here? (myself included)
Since when has Carlton started settling for a pizzy 8th. position?

I'm retracting my vote in putting my expectation as premiers.
Aim high I say
Difference between mad barracking and realistic expectations. Realistically, I see a spot just inside the 8 for us based on our team, expected improvement, ebbs and flows of a season, average amount of injuries, other teams' improvement etc. As a mad barracker, when we are on and playing at our optimum, I reckon anything is achievable. That doesn't happen consistently enough though.

The Hawks in 07 finished in the lower part of the top 8, won a final and then bowed out. There is no reason to expect that we are ready to pull one out of the box as quietly hopeful as we all may be.

Belief is one thing, blind arrogance is another. I think we owe it to potential new members to not expect the world right away, in case they don't get it and think they were let down.

I see it sort of differently. I think we have a team capable of doing damage. Obviously after being in the wilderness for all this time things are going to be difficult but things have a way of happening, and sometimes I think in case of being seen as arrogant we play on the safe side.

Agree completely, Good Post Warsaw.:thumbsu:

I went for sixth, barring a bad year with injuries. We are slowly getting some depth, but until we improve our depth top 4 is asking too much. We are gradually fixing area's we are lacking in, which include our ruck, better spread through the forward line and a back six that has played more games together, could crap on for ages but that will do. Go Blues...

Out of the 70 votes so far, only 1 carlton supporter has us outside the 8, and he has us in 9th. As for the remaining votes we have 1 essendon supporter, 2 Ninethmond,1 Melb and 1 port. So its fairly safe to say that we all beleive we will play finals and im fairly confident to say that we will finish above all the teams who supporters are trying to put us down.

5th...

We have a very good draw, anything less than 8th is a fail. Last year we beat the teams we should have and usually lost to those above us. This year we should be beating at least 2/3 of the teams that we have struggled against (St Kilda, Adelaide and Sydney)

Maybe the Bulldogs had an off day when we beat them, but it goes to show that when our midfield is up and running we can mix it with any team in the league.

We tend to match up with the Bulldogs very well, and with another pre season in the players i beleive we will really give the other 3 a good shake this year. And with harveys input i really hope we can knock off the Aints and finally shut there supporters up.

Would love to finish fifth, but don;t think that will happen. I will take between 6th to 8.

I had you guys 9th. I just believe that you guys have been over hyped, and by what i saw against my mob in our 2 encounters, could make the 8, but have you guys missing out by percentage or a game or two, not by massive margins. Certainly could make finals though.

A couple more opposition smartarses have cast their votes after I asked them not to and received warnings. How hard is it to not be an idiot on another team's board?

Oi, I put you as 7th. :(

5th or 6th for me... 13 wins with percentage 108

1. Good draw (more games at the G)
2. Lots of the "kids" have now played 30+ games
3. Will be more cohesive under Ratten, and Ratts will be a better coach in his 2nd full season - got outcouched a couple of times - he's learning like everyone else.
4. Fewer injuries carried through pre-season compared to last year, meaning an even fitter, bigger, stronger team of men. Fitness and relative youth will get us over the line in 09. We started doing this last year and rolled sides, the tight games we lost were through inexperience, peppering the goals etc. We should get better at that this year.
5. Plugged some gaps in the ruck with Warnock - get your foot right big fella.
6. A fully fit Judd with Stevens, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson getting first use from Warnock (see 5), Krooz and Cloke even Hampson???
7. We get a fit Walker, Hadley and Houlihan from round 1.
8. We have some depth, not a stack whereas in the past few years we had next to none.
9. More stable back half with Jamison, Bower, Setanta, Waite and Thornton handling the bigger blokes and several smaller re-bounders unleashing the engine room - scotland, browne, carazzo etc...

Heart says 6th. Head says 8th. We are capable of beating all but the top couple of teams but there will be games that we should win but dont and there will be games where we are underdogs but get up. Between 11 and 14 wins.
