Just assuming we have no idea and using the technique of "using the past to predict the future", we can map the performance of Simpson's and Worsfold's first five years to McQualter's future five years, we should expect at 2 GF and at least one flag.

Or he gets Ken Judged and is shown the door after two years

Simmo gives good insight, has always been a pretty dignified guy and a smart tactician/strategic coach.

No one at collingwood minds Buckley commentating Collingwood games or connecting in the media about them.

It would be a different story if Simmo behaved the way Suma or Jakovich have in the past, but that’s not his character.

While it might not feel right to you, you might need to get right with it as it’s not a big deal in the slightest and will be ongoing through the whole the season.
It is a big deal for me, I find it annoying still having to listen to Simmo at this early stage. How long before Bucks moved into commentating (on Pies)?
We're all different. I don't have to get right with anything, I can just ignore him until I'm more comfortable with the whole media circus. Am not really interested at this stage in what a wonderful, dignified, nice, smart guy he is, given the last 4 years of misery, heard it all before! Trying to move on, am more interested in the new coach and what he has to say..

Well, he is an unknown (and unproven) at this stage. Although we're all pretty upbeat about having a new coach, anything is possible...could be a car-crash, hopefully it's onwards and upwards!

After what I have seen with us beating up on Richmond and ourselves I am going out on a limb and say we will push for Finals this year.
Heck, top 4 isn't out of the question.

Anyone with me???
Anyone??

To the extreme, following the steps of Essendon not being in the Finals in 1992, to then became the 1993 Premier with a very very young team of players.

Can I suggest if you're trying to move on then maybe don't post on the subject? That might help.

I heard that Simmo is interviewing Briztoon next week.

I'm starting to get excited about getting these kids into the senior side!!

I know it's just another WAFL trial but they haven't put a foot wrong.

Now I'm not... should know I shouldn't get excited by trial games

I feel like we aren't skilled enough to play fast and frenetic.

We don't have a lot of clean ball handlers on the ground like the tigers had in their glory days.

They'd just ping it around cleanly by hand , get the ball forward anyway Necessary but when it got there they were skilled and smart.

I feel we are fumbly and/or second guessing

so far true but good signs on good Friday

Well we play Carlton at Adelaide Oval in April so there's something.

I was looking forward to seeing us play at a local ground but what can you do.

Hopefully we can take it up to them a bit better than last years disaster.

nope lol

we are 69 for 102 against

if we can get to 80 for and 90 against that's a good target imo

After 6 rounds:

For: 368 points (ave 61)

Against: 666 points (ave 111)

*We've played 3 of the current top 4 and 3 pushing the 8 so not a great reflection.... yet

Article from AFL.com confirms I think what most on here already knew, we had the most difficult start to our fixture of all clubs.

Last year we were 0-4 and had been getting thrashed in similar fashion. I still think we can get 5-6 wins. If we can get our per centre above 70 that would be a huge step forward.

West Coast's Round 0-7 fixture was graded as the hardest of anyone in the comp (seems a bit rough considering we finished 16th but oh well). So maybe it shouldn't be panic stations just yet in terms of our progress and how the rest of the season is going to look..

The next 3 games present an opportunity for HOPEFULLY 2-3 wins, and maybe a bit of balance after playing 4 of the current top 6.
Melbourne (Optus)
Richmond (MCG)
St Kilda (Optus)

The expectation is that we don't finish the season with a percentage in the 50s or 60s. Competitive sides don't do that. And it's rare to go from uncompetitive to contending without intermediate steps. If we are trotting out 10 goal losses early in the year without another injury crisis pitch forks should be out. If we start poorly I expect a lot of heat to be directed at Pyke and McQualter for bringing in two Richmond players.

We added 3 experienced players so if they are not all in the best 22 in Round 1, why did we add them? If they don't make the team better, why did we add them? Draft obviously hasn't happened yet but we have picks 12 and 26 so not expecting to draft a ready made star.

Brisbane went from 3 years in the 60s to one of 74%, one of 89% and then finals for the last 6 years in a row. That 2018 Rd 23 side (their last year outside finals) had 9 premiership players from 2024 aged 26 or under in it.

Melbourne went from scoring 11 and conceding 20 goals a game in 2013 to conceding 15 in 2014, to scoring AND conceding 15 a game in 2016. They've mostly been competitive since and if not for imploding off field would still be a contender.

We are a 69 for, 102 against team based on 2024. The Premier are 94 for, 76 against. So we're 51 points off the pace.

Do we have as much talent on the list as those teams did? Jury is out but I would not be betting the house on it. Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, McLuggage, Rayner etc. came from top 5 picks and F/S selections. Are we 2018 Brisbane or 2016 Melbourne, or are we realistically not at that point yet? We were better in 2024 but beat North and Richmond who are also historically bad, Melbourne who hit the self destruct button, Gold Coast who had an away record of 0-9 going in and Freo who are mentally fragile (seriously how did they miss finals from 12-6?).

What I want to see is a forward line of Allen, Waterman and Jack Williams (Darling was OK in the role he was asked to play but not having him forces us to not try and squeeze 3 key forwards + 2 Williams in which was horrible), Tim Kelly playing a mid/forward role where he actually kicks goals again, more midfield minutes for Reid, Hewett, Baker, Harry Edwards at FB and some semblance of a plan for how to transition the ball out of defensive 50. Our go to has been to give the ball to Witherden or Rotham and hope for the best which is both a poor strategy and no longer an option.

2024: 69 for, 102 against. Rd2-8 2025: 63 for, 113 against.

Not off to a great start. Realistically we should probably be 1-6. Could be 2-5 but were not in any of the other 5 games.

Hopefully with Melbourne (H), Richmond (A), St Kilda (H) in the next three we can see some better performances. The other bottom 4 clubs have played each other (Melb vs Rich/North). I don't feel like we are 2 wins worse than Richmond and 20% worse than North and Melbourne but the ladder is what it is at this point. But I am realistic that we could be 0-10 and 50%.

MOAR Tom Gross pls.
