Now 6 rounds are done and we sit 3-3, where do supporters think we will finish? top 8? top 4? out of 8?

I put it in context in the next 3 rounds we play WCE, Port (away), Geelong (home).

My observation based on the last 2 weeks performances, there is a real chance that we might be 3-6 before our bye.

I'm not clever enough to do a poll thing on here but it would be interesting to see supporters' thoughts.

I don't think we are travelling that badly. We just need to sort out our forward line.

We had more inside 50s than North and broke even with Sydney. We've just been shit at converting those into goals. Despite what many doomsayers say, our effort has not been down, and we haven't been getting smashed (except against Hawthorn). We've just been terrible at creating scoring opportunities.

That sort of thing can be fixed with a few tweaks.

Should I put you down for a top 4 off the menu sir?

Well, for me we are where I expected us since I expected some side to go past us. But somehow the season is still pretty open apart from Hawks and Geelong probably clear top 2. But to be s shot at a grand finals we really at least 2 wins from the next 3.

3-6 looks likely. 4-5 at best and even then that's not top 4 material. We're not top 4 material right now plain and simple. We're a top 8 team as of the conclusion of Round 6. Doesn't help when you've got Sylvia/Simpson and Ballas doing what they did.

Top eight at the moment but as usual injuries can change anyone's outlook. We are just a different team when we can have Mundy, Fyfe and Barlow running together. It begins and ends in the middle folks!

How can you say that after tonight? The game tonight was clearly lost in the forward line, not the middle.

We won the clearances 42-34, and won the inside 50s 55-45. But we still scored less than they did. Because of our forward line.

In theory, on paper we should go 11-2 after the bye. But we've already seen us lose the last 2 games that we shouldn't have lost.

But let's say we can get Sylvia/Barlow/Morabito/Balla/Ibbo/Mayne firing and go 11-2 ... this would give us 14-16 wins depending on what we do before the bye. Something like 16 (requiring us to win 2 of the next 3) would leave us maybe in 4th based on the last few years.

But if we turn 3-6, I'd say about 6th is the best we can hope for. Drop more than 1 game vs say WC/Richmond/Port/Ade ... and we'll be lucky to even make the finals. Which would be a disastrous season.

If we lose against WC, the season would basically be over, as we'd have a very small chance of making the top 4 (and hence making a run at the flag, which is really all that could make the season a success).

My expectations are that I won't be attending any more games until the team shows an improvement in attitude and effort. Until then, I'm banishing my support to the WAFL.
Please don't go to our games when we start winning, we don't want nor need bandwaggoners.

Then why are you here?
Because I watch every freo match and when they're in Melbourne I attend. I don't not attend because I'm not a part time fan. Sure we're upset because we're losing matches we should be winning, but to say you wont be attending anymore matches, well what does that say about you?

It says that I'm a member and have a seat that I can choose when to use, how about you?

It says you're a fan when we win games. Maybe you should re read what I wrote. Not going to bother replying to you anymore mr bandwagoner.
Well that's one result that's gone my way tonight.

Now go back to your cocoa and dream about how great you are as a supporter because you know how to switch on the tv and ride a tram occasionally.

Because if Barlow was playing we would have had more options (including more time for Barlow and Fyfe forward) Your class midfielders make the difference over the year. Whenever we had Mundy or Fyfe forward we really lacked presence on the ball.

Yeah for sure in this game we were down on forward line talent but WC won a premiership with Hansen and Lynch as their key forwards. All areas are important but the midfield is where it begins and ends (to quote RTB).

It was an awful game were our skills really let us down.

The only real difference if Barlow was playing is that Lachie Neale would have probably played as a forward crumber instead of Crozier. Our forward line issues are deeper than that.

Lynch would be a walk up start for us if he was on our list. He kicked 3 of WC's 12 goals in that grand final. Tall forwards win football games, and we don't have any.

Ross Lyon is still convinced that backmen are more important than forwards. So we continue to play 3 tall defenders but only 1 tall forward. Not coincidentally, we have the lowest scoring efficiency in the league.

At the very least, we could bring in Silvagni/Ibbotson and move either Johnson or McPharlin forward until other forwards are fit to play. Not doing so has now cost us 2 games, and probably a realistic chance of top 4.

It doesn't matter how well McPharlin defends if we can't kick more than 8 goals ourselves. Most teams midfielders will kick more than that, even if McPharlin's opponent does nothing.

Im surprised people are talking about top 2/ top 4.

Im firmly of the view/like Lyon that the past counts for nothing- we should be looking to just make the 8 and then go from there. I've got confidence that on any given day in September we have the cattle to challenge all teams. We just need to get there first.

I don't think its disaster if we don't make the 4 - i feel we can still do some damage from outside it if we peak at the right time. Finals experience is an intangible of which we have a bit of now. I'll only really declare our season a disaster if we miss the 8.

Don't know how you can say it isn't a disaster (football wise) if we miss the top 4. We are only it to win a flag. And that is basically impossible from outside top 4. History has shown that.

Adelaide won it from 8th didn't they back in 97?
