The thing I love about Carlton at the moment is having reasonable expectations. We could be a top 8 side. We could finish in the doldrums yet again. We're that type of side at the moment.

Finally, through our younger players, we have pressure from below the senior group, yet I'm trying to balance out my expectations.

When reading interviews with our young players, I've noted that many have stated their goals as 'making my debut', 'playing X number of games' or 'becoming consistent'. Almost never do I read 'playing finals' or 'climbing up the ladder'. In fact, I'd be worried if I did.

It reminds me that although talent aplenty, they're still just a bunch of young fellas trying to make their way into the game at the highest level.

Once they've done that, perhaps the hunger for further team success will be their main goals for the upcoming season.

Then watch out!

I'm not expecting too much in 2007. Get ready for moments of brilliance and disappointment, as this young side find their way, and learn from experience. What this list does have however, is bucketloads of talent, attitude, upside and X-factor. So where will we finish in 2007? Impossible to predict with any certainty. If they get a good run with injuries and develop some momentum, sneaking into the 8 is a possibility. But the priority this year should be steady list development, and stabilization of a lineup and getting an effective game plan in place. 2008 - watch out. :)

God why do you have to always be so negative

Haha :thumbsu:

I actually agree with parrot except i can't see us finishing that high somewhere between 16-12 for us.

We still don't have much depth experience wise so if we cop a few injuries to key players we will struggle again.

Almost forgot, speaking of expectations.

This being the year of the Pig, I expect a fit Big Lance to win the captaincy and perform the role admirably.

新年快乐! (Happy New Year!)

correct me if im wrong but i sure i read an article that carlton lost 15 games last year by 20 points or less. this has to be a good year with gibbs ,murph ,stevens, ackland. that more than 3 + goals turnaround.
could anyone find out if im right?

Yes you did, and it would have been one of the MANY i have written on the subject. You see it doesn't really matter how many times I post this, drum it in, back it up with stats, or elucidate with well crafted logic, we, the mighty BLUES are going to win 14 GAMES THIS YEAR.

We are going to be the team that, come the end of the season, everyone will be talking about, the newspapers will be saying:

"what do you expect with all the draft picks they picked up !"

"murphy, gibbs and kennedy in the same team, cant see anyone beating them for years"

"the afl structured the draft to allow teams like carlton acheive exaclty what they did this year. well done to them"

"....for them to have done so well this year they must have been tanking last year. . .. . too much of a turn around"

"champion teams like carlton never stay down for long, they were always going to come back"

and the number one quote will be from that old rag herself caroline wilson

"....i know it must have been harsh for the blues, it was hard for me watching and writing about them, but I always knew they'd come back, and look at them now"

so, there you have it. 14 wins and the news paper headlines to back it up, what else could you want. ......don't mention the cup, now that WOULD be ridiculous.

Call me biased, call me excited but I'm expecting a big year and the boys to respond with a big "F Off" to all our knockers.

All I know is that when I left the intra-club the other night I had a very wide smile on my face and hevn't felt that confident for a while. I reckon we will be fighting for Top 8 position!!!!

I hope for more consistency throughout games, those 10min lapses really hurt us.

I think we'll still be bottom four, however with a young list I'm not bothered. It was finishing last with an ageing and average list that hurt!

3 more sleeps....

My expectations are for 100% effort from everybody and nothing else...gotta remember though they are a very young side and consistency will be a major factor in our results...

Can't wait for Saturday

You missed one quote from our favourite journo:
" I know they made the finals......and thats great, but I still think the Pagan-Mitchell relationship is untenable."

I heard somewhere its the year of the Golden Pig? Something that only happens every 60 years or so which resuls is extra good luck?? (Correct me if i'm wrong).

Surely this mean Lance will win a brownlow or something? ;)

Yep! You're right.

Every lunar year has an animal symbol over a 12 year cycle and the pig is the last in the cycle.

Every animal symbol is also assigned an element from the 5 Phases (Wu Xing) Fire, Earth, Metal (air), Water, Wood. I, for example, am a Wood Tiger.

So, doing the math, the cycle completes itself over a 60 year period and the year of the Fire Pig becomes the year of the Golden Pig.

It is considered a particularly auspicious time to have children, as children born under the year of the Pig are generally considered to be hard working, honest and capable of achieving wealth. Those born under the Golden Pig even more so.

Don't know how much this translates over to Big Red, but Red also corresponds to Fire and is considered to represent good luck.

Oooo! It's getting creepy. I don't know about you, but I'm a superstitious type.

That's five gold pieces on Lance to win the Brownlow please! :thumbsu:
