a lot of discussion on various threads re the theory of evolution. thought it would be worth it's own thread.

i will start with 2 clips that have been shown to my grand children ages 5 to 11.

i welcome views and evidence that dispute the theory of evolution via natural selection.

these 2 on human evolution. not for young children.

All seems pretty logical to me, though I did not bother watching the last 2.
If you're looking for differnet specific theories on the detail of evolution and natural selection I'd be looking at peer reviewed papers in reputable science journals.
If you are specifically looking for "evidence" :drunk: against Evolution and Natural Selection actually taking place you'd best go to a few fundy christian websites

agree with you. the process of evolution is an indisputable fact although there are a few that disagree as you can see by viewing the god question and irreligion threads. i was looking for the most easy to understand and shortest explanation i could find and the 2 videos at the top are that. my grandchildren certainly found the concept easy to grasp.

i wouldn't really expect anybody who has decided evolution is a crock to have a look at them anyway.

yep, i usually go to pubmed or google scholar but if you link articles from them you usually get told that you are brainwashed by the scientific establishment and peer review is a flawed process. apparently they are fundy scientific websites.:)

Even the Catholic Church accepts that evolution is a real phenomena.
The silly thing is that evolution and natural selection do not in any way threaten religion they only threaten the power and ego of the ignorant zealot.
A group of religious zealots "denied" evolution and natural selection ever occurred because they thought it questioned or diminished their personal authority and their right to ignorantly demand everyone accept their erroneous view on how animals and humans came into being in such diversity, and in the end they were exposed for the idiots and fools they were/are.

i think there are still a few out there who think the earth is 6000 years old, they would be those zealots you speak of.

i also know a couple of posters who are all for the animal evolution theory but when it comes to the human race, it's no that doesn't apply to us we just popped into existence via some unknown omnipresent deity.

majority of the christians accept evolution now, even the evangelicals have stated accepted it. Muslim world is also getting better with education. Isnt it amazing how the gaps left by dawin in his theory are filled exactly the way he predicted it to be?

Bigger fool them.

a couple of untested/not peer reviewed theories for how life was created but extrapolating from current knowledge. sticking to my method of the shortest most easy to understand links.

i would have more confidence in these theories than the omnipresent/all knowing/all seeing/judgemental creator who provides a residence for our souls upon death.

Hang on, have all these videos been peer reviewed?

i linked that video to the irreligion thread. thought it might open some minds over there.

so....anyone who disagrees with your point is close minded??

irony much?

IMO having an open mind is an extremely desirable trait to have, the scientific process is grounded in open mindedness, curiosity, exploration, experimentation etc.

i like to think i have an open mind on the creator concept, i was at one stage in my life a believer. my view now as i have stated many times in various threads on the SRP board on the creator question is "i don't know" for reasons outlined in detail previously. from my experience there are a lot of closed minds in life in general let alone on a subject as divisive as the god question. confirmation bias to varying degrees is a problem for all people IMO, myself included.

if you took offence at my open some minds comment that was not my intention it was just my subjective opinion.

No doubt they have. Clever of you to know such complex terms.
Thanks to all the grownups you've nee chatting with on the SRP board no doubt.

Haven't you worked out yet that when you are trying to act clever and/or sanctimonious...CHECK YOUR SPELLING

Yet a lot of people close their minds to the concept of a creator or supernatural forces.
The irony being holding on to 'science' as the only path to true knowledge, disregards being open minded to other possibilities.

I am not trying to act clever.
Pretty simple really.
"Clever" is something faith healers aspire to be.

I typed that post with one finger while eating a ham and salad role and my biggest concern was not what a handful of science deniers might think of my attempted spelling but getting crumbs in my keyboard.

It was so nice, my ham and salad role, I may make another, so be on alert for more spelling mistakes.
As long as you are proof reading my posts maybe you could read the "definitions" of the big words since you are already looking them up to check the spelling. You could learn something while you are checking my posts.
Even better, maybe you could watch the video's in between my responses...
You could definitely learn something.

There a difference to be open minded and being simple minded.

maybe, discussions do get rather heated and personal on occasion.

holding on to science?- the same holding on claim could be made for the creator believers?

i could not bring myself to base my life around an institutionalized religious doctrine that has not provided any evidence of a creator, on the other hand i have met many people who say they are "spiritual" ie. they say they have a deep connection to the land, animals, other people, their community but churches, priests, rabbis, judgemental deities don't come into it. i can understand that, they embrace their very existence and the environment in which they live and respect it immensely.
