Strategy EXPOSED!

I suppose Jenkins played a good game. Just because we played bad, doesn't mean Adelaide weren't good. I thought we did pretty good to keep Adelaide to 10 goals with how bad we were across the ground.

One goal Jenkins got, was ridiculously handled by Keeffe. Instead of diving past Jenkins and dive on the ball or smother the kick when Jenkins got the ball. Keeffe was half tackling/holding Jenkins from the time they both headed back to goal. If Keeffe is in bad form, as I said in another message, he runs around like a Thunderbird, for the older generation. If you are too young to know the Thunderbirds, google it, and you will see how Keeffe runs when he has no confidence. You can't make a puppet effect the contest, and this contest is particularly Thunderbirds from Keeffe. I would of loved to see how easy 19 year old Langdon would of shut that goal down a treat, by diving on the ball, and punching it over the line. The only lines Keeffe had to worry about, was the ones that come from above attached to the tops of his shoulders.

This is not to say that Keeffe is a dud, and can't give us anything. But he was very poor against Adelaide, and needs two weeks at least back in the twos, to hopefully kill the thunderbird act.

Well we did not let them give us a Flogging but still does not explain why Jenkins kicked 4 Goals. Yes he had a Good game but was that because Keeffe could not Stop Him?

I don't disagree that Keefe had a bad game, but my point is that opposition forwards will often kick goals. It is then important that the defense limits the output of their other forwards. Jenkins kicked 4 of the Crows 10 goals which suggests our other defenders did well in limiting Walker, Podsiadly and Betts.

We won't have 22 players play well each week, so its important the other players do their bit to ensure a win. If you had told me before the game that Adelaide would kick 76 points, I'd have been very confident we could kick more than that.

Start of the Year Keeffe was not even in the Best 22

Funny isn't it. Before round one he wasn't even close and I know I held my breath when he was selected. That said, he performed so much better than expected in a number of games and now he's been belted in one game and suddenly now he's a spud!

You can always rely on a few for hysterical overreactions PNS.

Did you read the bit where I said, I am not saying he is a dud, but he needs time off for that effort, and I can guarantee Buckley thinks the same, and he will not be there on Saturday. At the start of the year, a fit Keeffe was in our top two defenders, because Frost was even further behind Keeffe, and Reid was seen as a Forward. So I don't know what you were thinking, but I thought Keeffe was very good before his injury, and I had faith he would be back as soon as he could, and playing Senior football. He is 200cm, and is not particularly slow, so he has some weapons, but what are you saying, do you want Josh Kennedy to kick another 11 this week, while Frost struggles with the very capable Jack Darling? Or do you think maybe I am spot on, and Brown should come in and try to curb the in form Kennedy?

The post was not directed at anyone in particular. It's just an observation about some of the comments in here.

Just that you quoted my posts so it seemed that way. However, although I am a keen predictor as to what a player is and isn't capable of, I am also a firm believer that predictions quite often are wrong. Players often look hopeless at times, without a future, and too often they bounce back, and fully transform themselves into something totally different.

I do believe in shaping these players as a club though, so sticking with a player while he plays poorly, breeds mediocrity. Cloke for example has shown nothing this year, and if we took this year in isolation, he would be in the two's. Grundy needs to be treated like a 20 year old kid, not a 25 year old seasoned player. Keeffe needs to be treated like a player that each week, is in great competition for his spot, as he is in direct competition with Frost and Brown. And this week, those two will be one and two key defenders. If insane selection occurs, get ready for another upset. West Coasts big chance of taking this game from us, lies in the effectiveness of their forward line, and strong ruck contingent.

Oops! Look again!

You directly commented on Trade Drafts quote of my post, so that suggests that it was my quote that you two were discussing between you. If you didn't mean to link to my post, I accept that, but it certainly could be understood how I drew that link by looking back, that's for sure.

Actually, it was my post that didn't quote anyone, so the link was broken in that case, more so than your own.

It's a simple mistake to make. As I said, it was nothing more than a general observation and was in no way linked to anything any specific person had previously said.

Two rucks and we are losing the clearances. I am thinking that is an indicator, that with two rucks we are not getting our hands on the ball first. perhaps be different with an extra mid.

Cloke out of form. Keeffe out of form. Inefficiency with the ball in hand. Fumbling marks in the forward half. Not enough contributors.

These were our issues tonight. Not our ruck setup. Grundy worked well. Witts worked well. If we had a strategy issue, I don't think it was with our rucks.
Clearly we "murdered" the ball by hand, by foot on the ground and in the air.
Our players appeared unable to read the flight, trajectory bounce or "weight" which Adelaide, being the co-tenant of the brand new ground clearly did.
We were coming of the asinine bye and more than likely took the Crow too lightly after they were smashed by Melbourne.
All in all we "nanced it up" big time, but nothing we can't remedy in ultra quick time.
Not even looking fora life jacket yet, let alone moving toward the life boats.

It is indicative of the drop off after our best mids. I've seen some good tap work that has been effective and some that hasn't been taken advantage of. Bear in mind that not many rucks make an impact at Witt's age and hardly any even play seniors at Grundy's age. We can't expect them to dominate. We either invest in them of take a senior ruckman to fill in for 3 years.

fair comment. There is a cost to development. Question is whether we can make the top four and have areal crack whilst we are developing the big guys.

I wonder who the op of this thread is............. must be some kinda smart guy.

Seriously though, how much better were our clearances in the last quarter when Bucks finally put Jesse White in ruck, even times we had Grundy and Jesse White in ruck when it was around the ground, last quarter was great. Can't do that with Witts and Grundy, but Jesse is our Nic Nat.
USE HIM MORE BUCKS!!!!
Took Bucks freaking 10 games to figure out what I have known all along.

I would have White as just about our worst player for the night and would like to see him replaced next week with Karnezis.

If White plays in the ruck then Cloke is pretty much our only tall target up forward.. I fear that it may be worse then having two out of form of targets in that case.

We need Reid back for your plan to work.

Then I advise you re-watch the last quarter

I will when I can get the TV to myself. I agree that White was recruited as a forward/ruck but right now the two young rucks are doing a good job which will stand us in good stead for the future. As a pure forward White just is not making a contribution. Whilst Cloke isn't either his best is far superior to White so should stay in the side. If Karnezis is not fit enough yet I would still drop White for either JT or Adams. This might give Cloke a bit more space and also allow Fas to return to the forward line.

White's last quarter was good. I wonder if Grundy could play as our key forward for a week when Reid is back, and give Cloke a rest, and let Witts and White do the ruck work. Cloke so needs some sort of intervention or change to get him back in form. Maybe a week in the twos could do it. He looks totally lost and is no where close to reading the ball, or taking strong marks. kicking also suspect still.

This would give Cloke a hell of a lot LESS space as he'd have three defenders on him again...
