I think that review was board driven and was independent. Don't think he had much to do with starting it or doing it.

In fact, as Lloyd was the footy boss (both AFL and AFLW) from 2018 to 2023 they may have reviewed what part he played in their problems. He did eventually get the chop this year after a dismal AFL season. Maybe it should have come in 2023.
That's true, he survived that review, but it was some time between that one and their recent clean out. Usually those sought out to undertake a full departmental review like this don't do it alone and will have the contacts to bring in the required expertise across the different areas. I'd be surprised if we were appointing anyone other than someone with a proven track record, if not with some history there who comes highly recommended from a trusted source.

Enough is enough for Richmond with the AFLW program to undergo an full, independent review after the club missed finals for a fifth time in seven seasons.

Richmond launches full-scale independent review of its women’s football department

Richmond has launched a full-scale independent review of its women’s football department after missing finals for the fifth time in seven seasons.
This masthead can reveal that the Tigers have appointed former Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd and “high-performance specialists with experience across women’s teams sports” to oversee the comprehensive process that will forensically examine both on and off the field.

Players were told by chief executive Shane Dunne on Tuesday morning.

It comes as the Tigers have notched just two wins this season – having started the season 0-7 – with one game remaining against bottom-placed Gold Coast on Saturday.

“We ultimately want to be a team competing for premierships, and this process will ensure that we are best set up for continual improvement and long-term success,” Dunne said on Tuesday morning.

“As the AFLW continues to evolve, our program must remain progressive, inclusive, and high performing.”

The review - which is expected to be finalised in December - will make recommendations for both short and long term for the underperformed team.

Coach Ryan Ferguson was quietly re-signed earlier this year with a one-year contract extension seeing him through until the end of the 2026 season.

The football department has been overseen by executive head of women’s football Kate Sheahan since the team’s inception, with the role established in 2017 to help set the foundations for the team’s licence bid and list build.

Lloyd and the consulting team will scrutinise areas including the team’s program structure, governance, team culture, leadership, coaching and player development.

It will also cover the team’s high performance and medical outfits and its recruitment and list strategy.

Richmond was part of the second influx of teams to AFL Women’s, granted its licence to enter the competition in 2020.

Since then, the club has made finals just twice, falling 24 points short of Port Adelaide in an elimination final last year.

It made finals in season 7, winning a final against Brisbane before falling short of North Melbourne in a semi-final.

Well the season has been nothing short of an embarrassment exacerbated with the completely unnecessary re signing of the coach , we started the season completely lacking in readiness for the year ahead and will finish near last deserving of our pathetic efforts
The list needs to be heavily pruned , kb , lavey you name it get rid of them and open the team up , sack the recruiter who hasn’t a clue what talent looks like and only then might we turn this ship around

I’m sorry to say this, but the appointment of Brad Lloyd to complete an independent review of our AFLW, is made by a CEO who hasn’t got a background infooty.

We needed someone who has a strong understanding of AFLW, has been involved in a successful AFLW program and is a respected football administrator.

We’ve got someone who was sacked by Carlton. WOW!!

With the draft coming up in 6 weeks time the work is already done for this draft period with trade period just before that so what gets done in list management would be in the wind now already.

Surely they would have already had to change tack towards getting skilful players in based on what they have seen this year, players who would want an upswing in their money currently so there must be some trades we could do for players not delivering on the money they're getting.

One trade you could make would be getting a pick and a player from Essendon where they need mids/forwards, we could send Yassir and Egan to Bombers and get in their 2nd rounder and Chloe Adams, who is a 19yo mid drafted last year and was a bargain for them at pick 38 who I really liked but like Grieves will take a year or two to build their strength. If we are to get real about bringing players in who are good users of the footy with a 2-3 year plan to build a team skilful enough to compete.

That’s an arbitrary opinion tho , he’s a respected figure in football and player management, he’s better than getting Daniel harford to do it

He was sacked by Carlton. What’s his involvement been in AFLW? There’s a lot respected figures within the AFL, who haven’t been successful.

I want someone to conduct the review who has been part of a successful AFLW program. I’d be happy to be proven wrong, but I question the logic of selecting a person who hasn’t enjoyed success as a administrator and limited experience in the world of AFLW.

He’s got the right name, looks good and I suspect he says the right thing.

I must have celebrated making finals so hard that I completely missed our winning final. Can’t even remember it.
Maybe I slipped into a coma or something….

I was at the game at Metricon Stadium and pretty sure I walked out happy being at our first final reflecting on what might have been but happy we had another game, although in Melbourne, as we had finished top 4.

Yeah maybe you’re right.

I’m just still scarred from Robert Walls.

This was coming. It's clearly not a well-run program, so I hope meaningful changes are coming to make us more competitive. Don't know why Ferguson was extended because I would've parted with him at the end of the season

I have no doubt chunks of it are really well run. Girls love being a part of it, that much is clear.

Just the football part is a bit lacking, you know, that stuff.

Also, given the club statement and reading between the lines a bit, no longer convinced Ferg is safe.
I wish I had your "not convinced" after Dunne said of the review, "this for our AFLW programme - not of the AFLW programme".

There are a few on here that could save Lloyd some hard work, and they'd be happy to share ;)

Will be no change this is purely a box ticking exercise

Players will say they are happy coaches will say they are on right track
They will make a tik tok video to confirm
