The end of the year is going to find the club ina tricky position as it delists players, upgrades rookies and looks for the next wave to recruit. This is already being discussed on another thread. From what I understand, there are three players who are contracted for next year, but are unlikely to either get game time, or add much to the team; McManus, Schoefield and Haines.

McManus; the couragious ex-captain has now had his day, and while it may be argued adds experience and depth it really doesn't appear as though he will add to his current games tally. From what I have heard on here the club wanted to give him a one year contract but he squeezed two out of them. If he can be put on the veteran's list then it isn't a problem.

Schoefield; I'm not a fan of his, and was not impressed by his selection. Has had minimal impact this year partially due to injury. From my point of view we have young guys who sit better in our top 25 than he does and fill a similar role. While there was an argument that his disposal skills were part of the rationalle for recruiting him they have not actually been great. Questionable addition to the list in my opnion which will cost us a developing player next year.

Haines; You've got to feel sorry or players like Haines (Toia). Can he get into the team with his hostory of injuries? Are there others who he can get ahead of to force his way into a top 25? I suppose Peake and Crowley being young may be subject to form lapses. But at the moment I would expect that the likelihood of him fulfilling his potential at AFL level has all but evaporated. After the debate about his health and fitness it seems that the decision to give him a two year deal may not pay off.

If we are needing to lose three players from our list or next year, then it is a pity that these players contracts are in place for next year. Having said that, the club has done a great job in most respects with its recruiting, especially since the Haselby/Pavich draft onwards.

What concerns me is the way schofield seems to be in the mix when he doesn't deserve to be, almost like the club is trying to justify why we wasted a 2 year contract on the hack.

I don't think it has anything to do with conditioning, he's just past it. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

He probably has a lot to offer as a mentor.

Subi had a bye this week so even if he doesnt play I think he would be able to help some of the young guys prepare.

If we make the eight his experience might be invaluable off the bench. I think CC and the match committee might be looking ahead.

See what happens next week. If we get through tomorrow without too many injuries he will line up for Subi.

please dont trade our picks again...

need to use them, and get some young talent from the draft.
I agree. The two biggest deficiencies in our list are back up ruckmen if anything was to happen to J Lo or Sandi, and height and pace through the midfield ( although Dodd, Peake and Crowley have boosted that area in recent weeks). The best place to strengthen these areas is through the draft.
