If we voted for a stop of the counter between say 10pm and 8am, I would vote for that, no worries at all. It makes sense for the reasons outlined above...
... but I still think (given the rules that have always been in place) a coach has to be responsible once the draft starts to keep an eye on the draft, who is available, and to have ranked some players to auto-pick should the worst case scenario happen. I know that is harder for some, easier for others.. but that is just the nature of drafts.. luckily they usually only take a few days to complete!
I am just relieved that you made it in time, as no doubt there would have been a bit of an issue if you ended up with David Astbury - even as a Tigers supporter!
Tim Kelly is a great selection, I expect him to play most games for the Cats this year, and as a Cats fan will be watching his progress very closely!
For what it's worth i set rankings on Wednesday to be able to avoid this situation. But the logic is that over a period of waiting for someone to take their pick + sleep + get to work + log in ... I then had less than an hour (by chance that I got in in time) to make my selection. Had I not set the ranks beforehand, we'd have a pretty big fiasco like most years.
I've pointed out a few days ago that the date of the draft and trade deadline was pretty minimal in comparison to the rest of the offseason. I'd just like a clear message for all of us to have able time and preparation to avoid shitty situations that will inevitably come with the current setup we have.
