In terms of list profile it's hard to compare Richo to any of our previous coaches but if you had to choose I don't think it'd be Ross Lyon. Rossy took over an already experienced list. I reckon Grant Thomas is the better comparison. And even Thommo in his 3rd full year in charge took us to within a kick from making a grand final.

Richo's time is running out. He has had plenty of time to develop and grow the list.

If by seasons end we've stagnated or gone backwards I think it's going to be very interesting to see what they do with him.

It's tricky because he's still under contract and obviously there's always the chance that the new guy we bring in ends up being worse. But something needs to change quickly.
GT had a far better list of established seniors

interesting that GT believes a head coach should now be a manager and assistants should handle other aspects.
I would take GT back in a heart beat .
It would take literally 15min of him walking in the door at Moorabbin to him fighting with all the AFL appointed people at our club .

In 2004 most of the list was around that 50-75 game mark as ours is now. Like I said, it's hard to compare Richo's situation to any of our former coaches but I think GT is a better comparison than Ross Lyon.

The only players on our list that are able to execute skills under pressure are the ones that were educated in regimes not overseen by Alan Richardson. I really think the weight of evidence is now beyond reasonable doubt. It's too soon for him to be removed after the extension and resignation isn't likely in any case, so we now have only to sit back and watch the train wreck take place, and hope the damage isn't too serious. I feel sorry for the players now, and wouldn't begrudge any of them requesting a trade.

We actually need to clear out all of Stkildas coaches except Playfair ..the rest all gone , many have been there
too long already .
Would be calling for major review including fitness as well, because it is very very clear we are not in the same
stratosphere in that area either.

Yeah but the players aren't of equal quality.
They all have 2 arms & 2 legs the bullshit answer from Alan is we are working hard ..what a load of ...bollocks

Watch when ball leaves stoppage ...we are walking , true we are butchering our shots but the fundamental thing
is we give soft goals up week in week out without blinking an eye or care in the world .

The players have checked out mentally .

04 we had a good experience of players, young, mid, old... But let’s not forget, our young players jumped early, but there was a period 2006-2008 where development looked to have stagnated, older players retired and we looked like we already peaked...

Our peak 2009-2010 was when our core was around 26-28, it can take time!

Difference is that our players haven’t bolted out of the blocks ala 2004-2005, we haven’t seen the capabilities on a consistent basis with this group! Development looks to have stalled without us seeing there best.. Development and coaching of these players is a huge concern right now..

From a Foxsports article -

"The Saints have now kicked with 61 goals after seven rounds — their lowest goal tally after seven games in 58 years, when they kicked 55 goals to start the 1960 VFL season".

And the club sits idle while Richardson leads them over a cliff!

that can't be right. if you listen to the #proRicho crowd for even a second they'll tell you the 80s were worse

Why? Majority of the current coaches started their position as 'untried assistants'.

Guys like Bevo, Dew, Longmuire, Goodwin, Simpson, Cameron, Scott brothers, Dimma, Pyke...almost everyone.
No shit Sherlock?

1- transition from assistant to senior isn't guaranteed.

2- from your list only 3 have won flags, and Scott walked into one the best teams of their era.

3- if we are going to sack him and plunge the club into crisis, then I want a proven replacement.

I was and went to most games but it doesnt mean we have to accept that standard now.
Never said we have to accept this standard.

The poster was being a smart arse and has no idea.

Some of us dont take kindly to being mocked about that era when we had to rattle cans just to make sure we had a club we could go and watch, let alone win.

Agreement or not, you have your views and I respect that it's about the club...

Needs. The. Sack.

He's going to bring this club to ruin with his non-existent gameplan and stalled development of future players.

Look at my profile picture and remember that this is now nearly 10 years ago that we were a competitive side challenging for a flag. We need to bring in some fresh blood from a winning culture to be a head coach (surprise surprise like Stewart Dew!) and get him to fix Richo's mess because he's done a whole lot of nothing.

He had to fix a ruined list yes but that was 5 years ago, Ross Lyon had 5 years total at St Kilda. Richardsons had his chances now and needs the flick.
Thats probably the most concerning thing, the stalling of developing players.

He's almost crippling them.

While he isn't ready as head coach, I'd definitely be looking at getting Sam Mitchell as an assistant. Was a St Kilda supporter, had a career's experience under Clarkson, has already played at WCE as an on-field coach and is acknowledged as one of the sharper minds in footy. Just completing his MBA so also a swtiched on guy.

1 in 3 'untried' assistants have won flags from the list above.

That's actually a pretty good hit rate and your demands are silly.
