While he isn't ready as head coach, I'd definitely be looking at getting Sam Mitchell as an assistant. Was a St Kilda supporter, had a career's experience under Clarkson, has already played at WCE as an on-field coach and is acknowledged as one of the sharper minds in footy. Just completing his MBA so also a swtiched on guy.
good pick

No chance shifted his wife & kids to West Coast for a reason , well resourced football club.
Eagles are the richest club in the land why would he come to Dimmeys , where half are coaching part time.
The same applies to Hodge he has dragged his wife and kids to the Lions offer the opportunity and lifestyle.
Stkilda won’t sack Richardson they can’t now , Finnis has made a stuff up by giving unnecessary & unwarranted extension , clear all assistants out try to get a Voss , Caracella because they are ready to be a senior coach
for next year and surround them with assistants with IP & skill .
Eg King from Bulldogs ..ruck
Eg Schneider or Steve Johnson from Sydney.
Eg Dean Solomon from Gold Coast
Eg Eade as Senior Coaching support same as Balme role at Richmond.
Would be trying very hard to get Hayes back from Giants as assistant coach too .

Richardson?
Want

I’ve read a number of people stating that we couldn’t attract a decent aspiring coach. If I was Caracella I would be identifying the following:
- 3rd youngest list
- 3rd least experience games played
- due to the above the only way is up
- 80% of the talent on our list are not performing anywhere near their optimum
- significant room for improvement
- taking on a team that finished bottom 3, any improvement will be seen as a good result

The difference with Richo & the likes of Caracella, Ratten, Solomon & Voss is those lastfour mentioned, finished their playing careers between 2005 to 2010, Richo finished playing 1996. Maybe the game has moved on, time for the Saints to get upto date.

*Edit...
Too early in the morning for this headline ???

I know we're pretty ugly right now, but surely we can tempt a highly rated assistant with head coach aspirations across to "support" Richo until he inevitably gets the arse (if the nose dive continues). Absolute shoe in.

To be honest though I absolutely loathe our history with our head coaches and would prefer to see the coaches box bolstered with supportive brains as a first avenue, rather than knifing the coach first.
Understand your thoughts, but 5 years is a long time to develop a coaching ethos & game style at this stage he hasn't nailed it, his 2 year contract is a real roadblock but seriously move him into another position at the club boot studder, property manager in charge of pumping up the footies my point being you can move on him but still employ him elsewhere, maybe he has KPI's that he isn't reaching which gives the club an out Aug 26th can not come fast enough for me.

Maybe shift him into the hands on role that he is good at -Development Officer. Then someone else can be in charge of tactics, game plan and selection.

Time for him to go. We are not going anywhere and there is no long term prospect he can turn it around other than the possibility of a brief rally.

It’s time we heard from the President. There comes a time when the board needs to show public leadership. If it’s not now then it must be soon. Morale and hope are evaporating.

And totally understandable, it’s a major consideration.
I don't think hes a bad development coach, and even as a tactical coach I'm still 50/50 (not sure we have the cattle or belief to fully make his vision work yet - need more outside run) but his game day coaching, to me anyway, is baffling.
Swinging Carlisle forward is a meme now.
I can't begin to dissect what went wrong since the Tigers game (I'll need to go back to the previous games to check if we were going ok prior to that or not) but I do know our confidence is completely shot and its affecting basic skill levels and decision making which is in turn affecting our will to win.
Long climb back up the mountain but it's always darkest before the dawn.
I'm not ready to #eco just yet.

Someone insert that it's happening gif.
Heard rumors from a mate the club is about to implode. Apparently Nathan Burke has mentioned something? I’m overseas so I don’t have anything concrete. Is anything being said back in Melbourne?

I know the property manager in charge of pumping up the footy’s good bloke and doing his job
There are a couple of no names walking around on the ground at training in StKilda gear don’t know what they do.

I don’t understand enough about the financial implications of paying a coach and his team out 2 years early.

But surely that would be offset by the members that will drop off and the overall marketability of the club being worse than it currently is (and currently we are one of the worst clubs in terms of marketing revenue per year).

I feel bad because I like the guy, he seems like a great person, but I’d be voting to get rid.

Still believe that we have a core group of players capable of taking us into the 8 in 2-3 years time but have zero faith in Richo and his team to be able to implement a plan to do so.

Is stbyron over here from SS?

I wandered over to the cesspit for about the third time in two years this morn and saw a really good post he/she made about a mate who was working with the players on a player development program, richo involved as well.
He said once the whole Moorabbin thing and aflw stuff started the program was scrapped by the club/board
Tried contacting richo for some explanation as none was coming from the club and all phone calls were ignored by him and never returned
Sad thing is the start and finish of the program was when we were spoon level up to when we were close to finals

Gone downhill since

If you're here stbyron it would be great to hear more about this if u have some more info

Win / Loss is not the first metric for me here, I picked us to finish 14th with around 5-6 wins so expectations weren't high. The list just isn't great and I think a lot of people were far overrating our short term chances.

What is far more concerning is
• the number of young players who have gone backwards
• the disorganisation on the field
• the imbecilic "strong in the contest" approach as a basis of a game plan - particularly with a young side.
• continuing to play favourites and completely writing other players off
• making sub 20 game players scapegoats when we are roundly flogged
• not appearing to make any meaningful adjustments when we are averaging the least amount of scores in the comp

Before we sack richo which would be a huge contract, I would like a serious externally run audit, basically the whole board, coaching, recruitment and development departments should be looking at an emergency administrative takeover on current output.

Blaming the whole lot on richo is probably naive and sacking him will do little for us without a major over-haul across the board.

I like the idea of implementing a "senior" advisor, someone like Ratten with a potential hand-over strategy… Richo would probably walk from that scenario anyway saving a payout.

It really depends on what happens for the rest of the year.

Last year Hawthorn were in a similar position, playing terrible football (we were looking at a top 3 pick). They realized they weren't going to make finals but used it as a development year, played some kids, started to look better and got back to basics.

If we are able to do something similar, just start to build some confidence back into players, give Coff and Clarke extended runs and get back to playing a better brand of football then maybe that gives us a platform for next year. Or we could just be putrid for the whole year which i think would lead to a full blown external review of the club (which may be necessary regardless).

But regardless I think it is very unlikely we let Richo go this year. More likely is that we change up our assistants etc. at the end of the year. If thats still not working then sack him next year.

Things can turn around quickly (North, Hawthorn, even West Coast to a lesser extent in terms of expectations) and we are also not the only team in this position (Essendon). Football is fickle, sometimes its the intangibles that make the biggest difference.

At the very least the idea of a Rankine, Walsh of Lokosius is enticing.

ive been a big supporter of the coach .. and strong advocate for the stabiliy over the very St Kilda sack first ask questions later approach but honestly im starting to think Richo may be losing or already has lost the players.. the whole energy coming out of the club at the moment is flat absoultly everything seems a little off from their media apperances to their social media presence its almost like they are just phoning it in.. theres not a lot of passion in anything we do ... honestly we have the team over this week here in Perth and ive got no clue what to expect ... we have both Peter Summers and Simon Lethlean coming to our function to talk about the club and ive got no idea how thats going to turn out.. no offence to the club at all but for our WA members they have got more information from me over the last two weeks then what the club has given them its our first game at the new stadium we should be jumping out of our skins about this but ive got members who still dont know where they are sitting for the game ...
im personally a bit concerned
