Sounds like a tail-wagging-the-dog situation, similar to what saw the end of Watters. No mate -we need strength of mind in a head coach..the one who innovates, leads, drives things, and the assistants are just that..assistants. Just speaking to a soccer coach who reckons if Richo was a soccer coach, he would have been gone by now.
hate to tell you mate but thats how it is with all the coaches ive seen at this club ... the coach is the driver yes but the assistants are there to put up objections and to force the coach to look from diferant perspectives at the end of the day its the coaches call and once the call is made its the assistants job to implement that but in the process before the assistants have their voices heard

Pretty sure we're the quietest cheer squad and supporters at the game too.
I think we just all sit there expecting things to go belly-up. I'm sure there's some kind of syndrome to describe it.

I thought that, North fans made the walls shake, we sat down and surrendered like we knew it was a possibility.

Definitely, and I think the Crows will be well aware of how we'll want to start.

If we have any pride the first quarter should be a cracker...after that who knows. Crows are of course the far better side but I have concerns over their mental toughness...not because of the camp, but because of what Richmond did to them on GF day last year.

Integrity of selection and consistency of effort is all I want this week. Anything else is a bonus.

I hope we have 10 reports if we lose at least. This should be war and if they lay down and surrender again I hope we just play the kids for the rest of the year. I would drop anyone who doesn't show they deserve a spot.

Not only is there no leadership, but there's not a great deal of personality either. Despite his struggles, I think McCartin is probably the only player on our list right now that has that genuine "Follow me" type of character however, he needs his football to do the talking first.
There were a couple of instances from him on Friday that said "I'm not happy with the state of the game, I'm going to try do something about it" unfortunately though he probably hasn't established himself enough to start directing traffic and being comfortable doing so.
Completely agree .Saddest thing is and I am quoting this...

"Paddy is as quiet as a mouse on the field"

Now I'll bet $100 that someone like curnow is talking absolute shit the moment he crosses the line. We just need these boys to believe they belong.....

when you think about it, who are our leaders around the ball

ross - never heard him speak
steven - speaks.. sign language
armo - bit yappy
longer - points at scoreboard sometimes
newnes - nice young chap
sinclair - lets his calves do the talking
billings - prefers bashin ****s

I reckon we need dunstan in the side for that passion/leadership asap
Coffield needs to become a leader and cement a spot, has that potential written all over him
paddy needs to get vocal, fake it until you make it

Ross was yelling early on the other day, I thought someone must have stood on his foot.

Bruce is the only guy we have that has any swagger. He's got the FIGJAM attitude but not the performance.

Step 1: Convince yourself that a change in coach is the answer.

Step 2: Rationalise step one.

Step 3: Find a potential replacement.

Step4: Convince yourself that the replacement is the solution.

Step 5: Problem solved.
5 years in a job and it isn't looking great. He has had a 5 year plan that at this current moment we don't look like achieving.

Well the boys trained yesterday and had that meeting over the weekend so I reckon everyone would be on notice. I can take a loss to Adelaide, that's fine, it's just all about how we go about it.

With respect, that varies from week to week on here depending on the result.

Shit game but too early to make a call on this year.

I'm tipping an average first half of the season and we hit our straps in the second half.

No dickhead policy = cosy little nest of introverted polite boys

I played for a club where we were all long time mates and we sucked. I moved to a club where I had rivals I hated and a wanky jock culture with heaps of little clicks. We were a machine. We were spiteful and super competitive at training. And the same thing on game day.
We respected winning, not meeting up for bro dates and a tickle fight.

Have no doubt Billings, Membrey & Acres would be different beasts at Hawks, Cats, even the ******** Bombers. They have an edge to them.
we never had a no dickheads policy ... its always been about the low risk high reward choice for our team in regards to players... we dont have the ability to recruit a "troubled" player and have it go south on us for three reasons .
1 we will get slayed as "same old St Kilda culture" BS
2 we dont have the leaders to pull a player into line as that senior respected figure
3 we dont have the depth in the list to afford it to go south..

take Dayle Garlett .. He had issues galore , he was a great talent but there was a fair risk involved , he gets to hawthorn and while the gamble didnt pay off and he walked out of the club after mutliple issues arounf being late and turning up in an unfit state for training Hawthorn came out as hreo's for giving him a shot , they plonked him in with hodge to give him the best shot of making it and when he left they still had the list depth to cover playing one short for the whole season .. had that been us to take him on there would have been story after story on how we let him down and how the clubs culture was not strong enough to nurture such a talent now wasted because of us, he would have been rooming with one of the other kids and possibly dragged them with him , and we would have been spending hours debating how we screwed up another pick for years to come ...

If we're 1-6 and the bottom of the ladder, not sure there is a second half of the year.

Everything and anything will implode. Including Richo's contract.

Trav and the WA folks have more volume than our Melbourne based CS.
lets be fair to the cheersquad .. the reason we are louder over here in WA is cause we only get maybe two games a year so we give it our all when we got the chance.. we also have the luxury of being a fair bit umm lets say less seasoned over here we will our cheersquad area with young enthusiastic (and often a bit arrogant/fiery/mental/loose units) fanatics we have guys who will have no voice for a couple of days after a saints game (im one of them) the melbourne cheersquad is doing the best they can with what they have got.. it used to be older ladies and kids that filled that area but i think that is changing ... honestly i reckon you Melbourne members should occasionally head down to the cheersquad and give them some weight to their cheers even if its just a couple going down for a game every now and then that would make a huge differance ... i know if i was in Melb i would be in the cheersquad each week

It shits me to tears when people go on about how we dont have any talent. Let's comapre 'talent' with this weeks hawks team compared to the one we rolled out and see who has a more talented and how far apart the performances are due to this so called talent that we are lacking.

The names in bold are the player that i rate as better (again my opinion) The line ups were taken form the AFL app on how they were names so it doesnt look like i plotted some against weaker players. Couple of 50/50 calls in Burgyone over Billings etc.

But if you have a look it works out to be 11 players from each side. Now clearly talent isnt the issue, its all the other moving parts such as coaching, structures, gameplan etc.

The two performances this week would indicate a 100 point thrashing by hawthorn.. something is not right..

They used t be very protective of their turf and get rid of anyone that wasn't an insider and anyone who wasn't doing their chants etc. Drawza seems a good guy and is the new breed of cheersquad member but he's surrounded by some pretty unfriendly people.

Guys like Sicily cop it heaps but he's more talented than a lot of our youth. The Hawks identify talent better than us. Guys like Harwick looked really good despite not being tipped to go high, a bit like Worpol this year and Kieran Lovell a couple of years ago. They don't get caught up in what phantom drafts say, they go and recruit good players from anywhere in the draft. Hardwick was kicking like bags of 8 goals in the juniors and none rated him.

any recruiter gives a second thought to what any phantom drafter says. Hawthorn just look for certain attributes and then play them where they are best suited.

i think a lot has changed now ... the club control a lot of what happens in there .. i reckon give it another shot mate they may be more welcoming then in the past .. i know our relationship with the cheersqaud has improved in the last couple

Bingo.

People on here seem to forget the absolute bath the media has given us over the years.

Hell we can't leave out Carlisle.

The club got burnt and burnt badly. The years in which we should have been getting in big memberships and sponsorships we were losing instead.

So there was to a degree the choice not to go risk. And can you blame the club?

In terms of leadership we have had players wo went through the leadership programs under GT. Why wasn't that passed on?
We now know that Roo and Joey had said no to Gatorade showers and whilst small the first win without them there and its shower time.
Were Rooey and Joey perhaps too strong on and therefore it didn't allow others to grow into those roles?
