I was sitting with a mate down from the bush watching the Saints at one of the matches last season- we got beaten, but can't remember by who. My mate was shaking his head and wondered why he bothered travelling 3 hours to watch this "cr*p style of football we are playing. I have my wife who hates football, keeps saying "why do you follow that team- everytime I watch a bit on TV, the Saints players do something stupid and the other team runs away with the ball..." . I go to the supermarket yesterday and the guy watching the Cats v Hawks game on the TV asks who I follow- I say The Saints, and get a head shake in return, and another customer saying why do you bother... jeez

The club needs a bloody good shakeup from top down- the whole public perception of the club is getting worse as we go on. It is almost like we need a big ego like GT to come back on board to coach for 2 years and start throwing a bit of PR weight around and get our profile back up again...and get some self-belief back.

Sounds desperate I know, but I've just about had it with this mob- if I go through any more rebuilds, development seasons, 5 year plans, gutless losses etc I'll go bananas:eek::mad::poo::greenalien:

The fact that he lived with me helps me suggest I know a bit about this topic.
just going off what i hear ... was never going to win the clubmans award as you say ...

but thats not relevant to the conversation at all .. the issue is someone of his experiance is the gaping hole in our list

yeah i know all this but Hawthorn have the luxury of taking a gamble like that on ... we wouldnt be as lucky .. odd on if he was in our colours we would still be defending the club against the "poor culture" jibs irrespective of Dayles previous issues
oh sorry, yeh totally agree!!!

how long do we let our past dictate our future though? i was hoping the lethlean appointment was the land in the sand moment where we stopped doing that. sadly i think the richo extension got in before that moment

Cripps didnt try here thats why ... he was always coming back to Perth ... the Eagles didnt do anything to get him looking the part he just put in the effort at the club he wanted ..
i would agree but it's happening with other young players on their list too, they just look superior. take mcgovern/barrass/sheed/yeo/ryan/duggan

lynch goes to adelaide, same deal as cripps

then you see the blokes coming in, membrey looked in better shape than pretty much all of the guys who were drafted in the same year to our club.

It shits me to tears when people go on about how we dont have any talent. Let's comapre 'talent' with this weeks hawks team compared to the one we rolled out and see who has a more talented and how far apart the performances are due to this so called talent that we are lacking.

The names in bold are the player that i rate as better (again my opinion) The line ups were taken form the AFL app on how they were names so it doesnt look like i plotted some against weaker players. Couple of 50/50 calls in Burgyone over Billings etc.

But if you have a look it works out to be 11 players from each side. Now clearly talent isnt the issue, its all the other moving parts such as coaching, structures, gameplan etc.

The two performances this week would indicate a 100 point thrashing by hawthorn.. something is not right..

FB: Geary Brown Roberton
FB: Brand Stratton O'Brien

HB: Webster Carlisle Savage
HB: Hardwick Sicily Duryea

C: Sinclair Stevens Newnes
C: Howe O'Meara Smith

HF: Acres Membrey Billings
HF: Gunston Shoenmakers Burgoyne

FF: Gresham Bruce Long
FF: Puopolo Roughhead Breust

RR: Longer Ross Steven
RR: McEvoy Mitchell Impey

B: Steele Clark Armitage McCartin
B: Burton Sheils Henderson Rioli
While I think a lot depends on having a handful of similar players suited for modern footy, despite their standing in the game, your point still stands.

Look at the Hawks turn around from that useless lost team we mauled in Tassie.

Sorry if it wasn't you. Must of been St Trav. Where did you have them just out of interest. I had them about level with is. 9 to 11 wins. Still sticking with both for at least 3 more games.
it wasnt me. i was uncertain on them. their midfield has massive issues though and i think they'll have a problem with winning at home

but i never gave up a ladder position.

i take more from the sydney game than the dogs game. dont under-estimate how hard it is to beat sydney. they were competitive. they are not a bottom 6 side.

all the dogs game showed was how the different parts will work in full force

Amazing that rnd 3 can be such a revolving door moment.
Win this weekend ( or at least put in a great effort Vs a more fancied opponent ) and last weeks shocker will be glossed over and sitting at 2-1 will bring some confidence.
But put in another crap performance and rightly or wrongly the blowtorch will be well and truly on Richo.
So far this season weve played 2 good Qtrs and 6 shit Qtrs. Put in another crappy 4 Qtr effort this weekend and the shit will hit the fan big time.

Watching Richo on AFL 360 last night, what do we think he meant by his statement that some of the players' preparation was not right?

I'm not sure but I thought there was something going on with that line; that he might feel that certain players haven't been keeping themselves in optimal condition.

Could be totally wrong but just thought it was interesting the way he put it.

Have to say, I've never seen him feel as uncomfortable as he did in that interview.

Well the boys trained yesterday and had that meeting over the weekend so I reckon everyone would be on notice. I can take a loss to Adelaide, that's fine, it's just all about how we go about it.
And they were training again tonight...

Was in Moorabbin today and the car swerved left off South Rd and into Linton st late this afternoon.

I have to get my GPS re programmed.

Nothing of great note to report:

-Billy was doing laps...didn't join in with any activities.

-Playfair had most of the group doing various drills when I first arrived.

-The fowards were surprise surprise......having goal kicking practice ......the balls were flying in like bombs.......great to see....Paddy took a few very nice grabs in match simo.

-Speaking of Paddy.......I was on the fence and he was 20 feet from me....I'm no conditioning expert but he looked in great nic.

-Everyone was moving freely....you obviously wouldn't think any would have pulled up sore after the Bad Friday debacle.

That is all.

honestly i reckon you Melbourne members should occasionally head down to the cheersquad and give them some weight to their cheers even if its just a couple going down for a game every now and then that would make a huge differance ... i know if i was in Melb i would be in the cheersquad each week
Was it the chief of our cheer squad that regularly posted on here last season..

Just realized that I haven't seen him....he always gave great feedback.

They used t be very protective of their turf and get rid of anyone that wasn't an insider and anyone who wasn't doing their chants etc. Drawza seems a good guy and is the new breed of cheersquad member but he's surrounded by some pretty unfriendly people.
That seemed to be a strength last year. Haven't heard anything from Drawza this season, hope he hasn't been eaten by one of those old dragons who made up the old lady brigade who used to run tings there.
