I can absolutely see an argument, but Msrtin forgets that these cars are stupidly hard to see out of.

I reckon you need to start giving penalties earlier though

I believe they also get indicators on their steering wheels - not just the blue flags/lights on the side of the track.

Agree though that they need to start handing out penalties like chocolates at Halloween - the backmarkers would soon get the message. Mind you, what penalty can you hand out that is meaningful to a driver who's not going to be in the points anyway?

It would be a great move for Red Bull but a slap in the face for Tsunoda. They'd almost be better off giving Yuki a run in the top team for a couple of years and run Colapinto alongside Lawson at RB.

Yuki's not getting more than 12 months in the senior car, as Honda are switching to Aston Martin in 2026 - and Honda are the only reason he has a drive with the Red Bull team (RB & VCARB) at present. If they're going to promote a driver for 2025, they probably want someone who will still be around in 2026.

I really doubt checos sponsors would do that but in any case I suspect Williams would only release colapinto to a lower team (such as if he had gone to audi) but won't release him to red bull. So it's probably a moot point. And sadly I doubt they sack checo.

Most teams take the view that they're happy for reserve drivers to sign with other teams, provided they're being promoted to the main gig - Alpine/Piastri being a notable exception. As an example, McLaren had no issues with Sauber signing Bortoleto, who was their reserve driver.

Alpine were only going to put him in a client team's seat, until Alonso pulled the plug on them unexpectedly. By that stage, Piastri had already signed with McLaren. Alonso's move caught them off-guard, and by the time they decided to promote Piastri to their own main seat he was already gone.

Szafnauer got caught between a rock and a hard place of his own making - stuffing Alonso around on his contract extension while being unable to lock Piastri down by guaranteeing him a seat. Ended up losing both.

Carlos Slim isn't silly, he might have more money than the vast majority of the planet but he's not stupid.

He's not in it to make a loss on his investment so this year would've made him think VERY hard. Gotta be careful throwing your money behind Colapinto mind you, he wouldn't be the first driver to be swallowed up driving a car that's totally suited to Max's difficult style.

Like it. Will keep the back end kf the race interesting. If someone gets out to a 15 second lead, half could be taken up by them hitting a back marker at a certain part of track, compared to second who could easily pass on straight. They're all world class drivers, so no safety issue seems obvious.

In my opinion, the best way to increase overtaking is to simply make the cars smaller.

It's the whole conflict of intent - the designers will go for what's "fastest" (invariably designed around clean air) - the fans mostly want the greatest potential for overtakes and positional battles.

At one end of the spectrum you have go-karts, running 3-wide around the whole track, and capable of having multiple position swaps every corner. At the other, is F1.

Points off licence.
Eventually leading to suspension. Which becomes a headache for the team and undermines your seat if your replacement performs.
Big penalty that.

A carbon rod would be better than Sergio at this point (even a washed up DR probably would have been) but yes i would agree Lawson is the logical choice-I just think Yuki will look for a new team in 2026.

To be fair Helmut never does STFU and he seems to have a job til he dies there so Yuki probably thinks the same rule applies to him.

Yuki will be hoping that Laurence Stroll sacks his son, or Alonso pulls the plug after realising he's no longer up to it (which has been apparent for most of 2024). Honda will be moving to AM in 2026, so those are the only hopes Yuki has for a drive in 2026.

Alonso is 9th in the standings. He's the difference in Aston Martin leading "Division 2". Idk if it's that apparent he's not up to it.

I wouldn't say they are his ONLY options. But yes I agree his most logical route with Honda is Alonso retires and he takes the seat (I can't see stroll sacking his kid).
There will be more driver market movement in 2026 when the regs change so I can see a few midfield teams looking at him.

Haven't heard the quote in context, but apparently it was said in jest on a comedic podcast.

Seems to have a bit of character though which is good. Last thing we need is another George Russell.
