F1 F1 2024 thread

Out on Friday.

First season was great (first time getting all the behind scenes looks at the drivers/teams etc), managed to watch the next few and then found season 4 a mission to even finish. Dont think I even bothered with Season 5.

Will probably only watch this new season just to see the Dan Silverstone testing episode.

Just something about how manufactured the show is now, I understand why they create "Storylines" to appeal to the casual viewer, (still annoys me how they can have multiple episodes that focus on a single race or two while missing massive talking points for the season) but as a serious F1 fan, I'm more interested in behind the scenes stuff than made up drama, probably no longer their target audience.

Yeh I think for the first time I'll just pick episodes that I want to see behind the scenes on. Probably just the RB stuff and Vegas. Or if they cover Oscars sprint race win.

I found S5 wound back the drama by comparison to S4.

Anyway, there's no such thing as too much F1, so I'll watch it and love it.

We've come a very long way since the Darryl Eastlake/Alan Jones presenting a race at 1am on Ch9.

Yeah not great signs for a competitive season. Good showing by ADR. McLaren and Ferrari still look like they'll be battling for 2nd and no chance of 1st.

I enjoyed last season despite the fact it was over before it began. I have very low expectations that this year will be any different, as long as the midfield is entertaining it should still be a fine enough season.

Newey is an aerodynamics genius. I’ll be surprised if anyone is near Red Bull. Hope the Mclaren is close and Oscar can get the tire deg under control in order to take it up to Lando this year.

So what does the general consensus after 2 days of testing look like

1. Seems like the Red Bull is just as dominant, if not more dominant than it was last year (well Max at least).
2. Ferrari and McLaren appear to have put together good packages, but probably still fighting behind Max.
3. Haven't heard much about Mercedes or Aston Martin this time round. Reckon they will be behind Ferrari and McLaren
4. The Racing Bulls appear to be a lot quicker, and could find themselves regularly battling in mid field. Could possibly fight Mercedes and Aston Martin at certain tracks.
5. Haven't seen much being reported on regarding Williams, Sauber or Alpine.
6. Haas look like they are going to be back of the grid yet again. Gene should sell the team to Andretti.

The guy who bought audi into F1 has been sacked. Rumours of them pulling out again. Could be andrettis way in

While Ricciardo has put in some really good lap times, Tsunoda's were well off the pace - over a second slower than Ricciardo on day 1, and 7 seconds slower on Day 2.

Now, testing times need to be taken with a grain of salt. We (at least I) have no idea what tyres, fuel loads, engine settings, or time(s) of day Tsunoda's times were set. His Day 2 time suggests they didn't give him a real flying lap, though the Day 1 time was in the ball park of most of the other drivers.

One of the reasons they were so keen to put Ricciardo in the RB was because he's apparently really good at giving them driver feedback, to help the mechanics & designers improve the car. Tsunoda & De Vries are/were nowhere near as good at this, apparently. Maybe this goes some way towards explaining the difference in times between Ricciardo & Tsunoda.

Mercedes race pace seems to be good but not their quali laps.

DR according to Helmut would have had the 2nd fastest lap of day 1 if he didn't get held up by one of the Alpines. It seems like Visa could be upper midfield this season and if they get a bit of luck could potentially fight for a podium.

From what I have gathered Sauber and Williams have been decent pace wise but we won't know where they fit in until the season starts.

I'm basing this more on the level of concern being raised across the pitwall about the relationship between RBR and RB. The car also looks pretty smooth from the onboards I have seen, and Daniel has said its a better car than last year.

Yuki did both morning sessions where the times were a lot slower. Daniel's fastest lap on day 2 was on the soft tyres.

I saw a Sky podcast with Bernie Collins saying they have UV paint. Why would you ever use bright paint again?
