Not sure why they left Piastri so long on the 2nd set of tyres. Not that it would have mattered position wise.

Ricardo started on the wrong tyre as the soft was no good. Good call to pit him early. Was there and about after that with the midfield runners.

RBR need to cut their losses with Perez already. It's obvious and was obvious years ago he's not talented enough. Bring in Yuki or DR and bring back Lawson.

Thoughts on DR's race? Started 18th, finished 12th. Helped by the retirements of Verstappen, Hamilton & Russell, all of whom were ahead of him. Also helped by the Saubers needing to spend 30 minutes every time they pit, due to cross-threading wheel nuts.

I'd argue that his race day was considerably better than qualifying. May have finished higher if qualifying hadn't been such a disaster. Still not good enough though.

IMO the biggest difference between his race and Yuki's race was that Yuki enjoyed the benefit of clear air for the whole run because he was untroubled by the Haas cars and wasn't within cooee of any of the cars in front of him. The pace gap between them wasn't as great as 8th to 12th looks on paper.

Nevertheless Daniel at 35 is a lot closer to being Kevin Magnussen or Nico Hulkenberg than Vettel, Alonso or Hamilton unfortunately, I think the dream of that Red Bull seat was just a mirage. With RB being 6th at best behind AM/Merc I don't think there's a realistic expecation for DR to finish in the points every week.

I think unfortunately it was only the most delusional or one-eyed that thought DR was still a real shot at a title. There was that small window when Max was still developing but that window is long shut. The Renault move was understandable but a complete waste of time and probably irrevocably sabotaged his credentials.

Lucked out at Monza, fortunately, but yet again McLaren proved to be mostly a waste of time.

He made the right move to sit out 2023 but 2024 has proven so far to be a complete dud. Thanks for the memories and now our hopes are with Oscar who had another fine race today.

Way too many hangers on are invited to the GP these days anyway. The amount of "hospitality" areas around the track is mind-numbing compared to what you see at european gran prixs,

More pointing out the fact that they shouldn't be doing shit like that...

Right place right time is about all it comes down to, is someone going to bolt from the blue to dominate the next 5 years post 2026 changes? will red bull just carry on but what if max goes due to the falling out withg horner who gets in there?

If max stays and red bull still leads post 2026 were probably looking at max as a 10x world champion and none of the rest of them getting a shot and this generation misses out to the next one thats yet to be discovered.

“Telemetry shows that Alonso lifted slightly more than 100m earlier than he ever had going into that corner during the race. He also braked very slightly at a point that he did not usually brake (although the amount of brake was so slight that it was not the main reason for his car slowing) and he downshifted at a point he never usually downshifted. He then upshifted again, and accelerated to the corner before lifting again to make the corner. Alonso explained that while his plan was to slow earlier, he got it slightly wrong and had to take extra steps to get back up to speed

Specifically, in this case, the stewards have not considered the consequences of the crash. Further, the stewards considered that they do not have sufficient information to determine whether Alonso’s manoeuvre was intended to cause Russell problems, or whether as he stated to the stewards that he simply was trying to get a better exit.

Should Alonso have the right to try a different approach to the corner? – yes. Should Alonso be responsible for dirty air, that ultimately caused the incident? – no.
However, did he choose to do something, with whatever intent, that was extraordinary, ie lifting, braking, downshifting and all the other elements of the manoeuvre over 100m earlier than previously, and much greater than was needed to simply slow earlier for the corner? - yes by his own account of the incident he did, and in the opinion of the stewards by doing these things, he drove in a manner that was at very least “potentially dangerous” given the very high speed nature of that point of the track.
This season, the FIA Formula 1 penalty guidelines, including for this breach have been reset and increased to a baseline of a 10s penalty. In addition, when there is some aggravating circumstance, we consider a Drive Through Penalty. In this case we consider that Alonso affirmatively choosing to perform an unusual manoeuvre at this point to be an aggravating circumstance, as opposed to a simple mistake.”

Surely they’ll appeal this? It sets a pretty big precedent if anyone ever crashes because someone ahead does pretty much ANYTHING outside the norm. Lift and coasting an extra 100m early on the second last lap doesn’t sound that drastic
