Fascinating to me with all the silly season business going on alpine being so shit could actually land doohan a seat through no one really wanting it.

Ocon and gasly want out surely at least 1 moves at seasons end opening the door for Jack who I thought had no real shot after his f2 stint.

Alpine will maybe have bottas and zhou to pick from alongside doohan but it's slim pickings beyond that.

I was thinking of Ricciardo going back there. Renault swallows their pride, and a resurgence occurs with him.
Apparently sainz has had a meeting with them

I think too many bridges were burned. A big part of the reason he left was supposedly the Alpine hierarchy and I don't know if there have been enough changes for him to consider it.

Hoping for that red bull seat. Might be better off at Audi. Got a feeling few more people might leave yet.

Depends what max does and if red bull have another step upgrade that will put them back clear, if max goes to mercedes for 26 but leaves this year there is a championship on the table for someone at red bull.

Mercedes is probably the better bet but they seem obsessed with a kid thats done nothing long term so he probably isnt getting more than a 2 year contract there, all waiting on max anyway as audi will wait for sainz outside of him they cant attract anyone worth poaching to lead the team anyway.

They hired the chassis performance guy who developed a chassis that Hamilton hates? I wouldn't touch anyone from the Mercedes team like that personally given what they have developed recently. They had a really good engine that won the 8 constructors, 7 WDC but other than that their aero was always suspect. As soon as RBR got a decent enough engine and a top driver they came at them quick with Newey.

I wonder how easy it will be to get out of if a bigger team comes calling.

Contracts can always be broken, but I think that's the thing - the bigger teams haven't come calling.

It appears that Albon has been put in the same basket as Gasly. Whether that's fair or not is another thing, Gasly got dumped from RB and excelled in lesser cars, Albon's doing the same.

But RB and by extension the other top teams seem to hold on that these guys went to water when they had a good car against a strong teammate.

And to be fair, it's easy to look like a star when your teammate goes from Max Verstappen to Daniil Kvyat and Logan Sargeant.

I think it's more about Verstappen, Hamilton and Sainz than Albon himself. I imagine this news probably confirms that Verstappen and Sainz will be at Red Bull and Mercedes in some order and that Perez will likely be retained or replaced internally.

Process of elimination for Albon leaves him Williams, Alpine, Haas and maybe Sauber. May as well stay with Williams if that's the case. Secure your future and see what the landscape looks like in 2027.

if newey happened to return to williams, staying there might be pulling the right lever.

I think this makes a lot of sense for both parties. I know we want to see more F2 drivers get a shot but there aren't really any banging down the door.

It's a meh move. Better than going for someone like Magnussen or Hulkenberg but not that much.

My guess for driver pairings in 2025... Note that the big unknown here is Sainz. Where he lands could change the scenario significantly. Bolding indicates that the contract has already been announced.

Ferrari: LeClerc / Hamilton
McLaren: Norris/Piastri
RB: Tsunoda/Lawson
Mercedes: Russell/Antonelli
Haas: Bearman/Zhou
Williams: Albon/Bottas
Alpine: Ocon/Gasly
Aston Martin: Alonso/Stroll
Sauber: Hulkenberg/Sainz
Red Bull: Verstappen/Perez

Missing from the 2024 grid: Ricciardo, Sargeant, Magnussen

Likely alternatives...
If Sainz goes to Mercedes, then Antonelli goes to Williams, and Bottas remains at Sauber.
If Sainz goes to Red Bull, then Perez probably goes to Sauber.
