He won't sell the F1 team. If it wasn't profitable from a marketing stand point he would have sold ages ago since getting his brand out there is the only reason Gene is in the sport.

Just on that, how many points does a driver receive for having the fastest lap?

Did Russell end up scoring more points by finishing 1 position down, but with the fastest lap?

I've got a feeling that it's a viable trade-off for drivers towards the back of the top 10, where the points difference for the finishing position isn't so great.

Cheers. One point isn't going to make any difference. For some reason I was thinking it was worth 5 points. Maybe I was getting confused with Supercars.

It is more about not letting your rival team get the extra point. With teams at the front the extra point isn't going to make a difference but the midfield and back markers that extra point (or even not letting a rival team get it) can be crucial.

I thought it was Oscar, but I could be wrong. Not 100% certain about it.

If it was a backmarker, then it makes no sense for Mercedes to be taking the point away - as the bonus point is only awarded if the driver finishes in the top-10.

From a mercedes perspective it was 100% viable gained them an extra point with no care who of their drivers finished ahead.


I only mentioned it because hamilton come out after monaco qually essentially saying the teams handicapping him to win george their h2h when they sacrificed that head to head record the week before for 1 point.
